NFL Office Pool Picks Week 16
As we approach the Week 16 slate in the NFL, there are some spots where the lines seem to be a clear overreaction to last week’s finishes. It’s important to look at the full picture when evaluating teams and not just get caught up on last week’s performance. The Steelers and Rams both lost to teams with two wins or less as heavy favorites. This week, both teams might have a chance to pull off upsets. If they had won last week, they’d likely be favorites. Here are the picks, against the spread for every game, for Week 16’s slate.
Vikings vs Saints: The Saints have Drew Brees back, and he was out for quite some time due to a rib injury. Meanwhile, the Saints have lost Michael Thomas, the star wideout, for the rest of the regular season. Once this offense is 100 percent healthy, they’ll be hard to stop. Regardless, the Vikings defense won’t have what it takes to get many stops in this game. Take the Saints -7.
Buccaneers vs Lions: It hasn’t been the best season for Tom Brady, but last week’s second half against the Falcons proved what the offense could be. I’ll happily take that momentum with the Bucs as they take on a terrible secondary in the Lions. I see a big blowout incoming. Take the Buccaneers -9.5.
49ers vs Cardinals: The 49ers will finally start CJ Beathard and have now signed Josh Rosen as a back-up. No quarterback the 49ers throw out there will excite. It all depends on their defense, which has been inconsistent this season. The Cardinals offense should get the job done, along with their defense that has performed exceptionally most weeks. Take the Cardinals -5.
Dolphins vs Raiders: The Dolphins are still getting no love, even with a 9-5 record. They’re just three-point favorites against the Raiders, who have one of the worst defenses in the league, especially in the secondary. I like the Dolphins to dominate on offense and played stellar defense in this night game. The Raiders are nothing special right now. Take the Dolphins -3.
Falcons vs Chiefs: The Falcons defense has had their ups and downs this season. However, ultimately they’ve played well enough in spurts where the Falcons have had chances to win. However, I don’t think the defense will have much success against this Chiefs offense. We might see a shootout, but the Chiefs will get enough stops for a double-digit victory. Take the Chiefs -10.5.
Browns vs Jets: The Jets defeated the Rams in the upset of the year last week. Now the Jets are underdogs by just 9.5 points to one of the best teams in the league, the Browns, after being a 17.5-point underdog last week. The Browns have performed this season on both sides of the ball and should ‘bring it’ against an extremely poor Jets team. Don’t be fooled. Take the Browns -9.5.
Colts vs Steelers: The Steelers look like frauds after losing three straight games. Meanwhile, the Colts can end up with the same record as the Steelers with a win on the road. Both defenses should be showcased in this one, but the more consistent offense is the Colts right now. Plain and simple. Take the Colts -1.5.
Bears vs Jaguars: If the Jaguars lose two more games, they’ll be able to draft Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the 2021 NFL Draft. The players don’t think like that, nor do the coaches. They have jobs and they get paid to win. But the Bears are now looking at the playoff picture, knowing they’ll need to win this game to help their playoff push. The Bears offense has been stunning recently. Take the Bears -7.5.
Giants vs Ravens: Starting quarterback Daniel Jones is questionable for this game but will more than likely suit up. The Giants offense has struggled behind any quarterback this season. It’s been the defense that has helped them win games. The Ravens offense was a machine against the Jaguars last time out. And while they might not score 40 points, they might get close. Take the Ravens -11.
Bengals vs Texans: The Bengals upset the Steelers on Monday Night Football. Those prime-time night games are always fishy. The Texans defense has been awful this season, but Deshaun Watson has made up for it with offense. It’s amazing this team even has four wins. I like the Texans to outscore the Bengals in this one. Take the Texans -8.
Broncos vs Chargers: We’ve got two 5-9 teams going at it. I’ve been impressed with Justin Herbert this season, but the Chargers have had their stunning moments, being out coached left and right and somehow losing a ton of games that they probably should’ve won. At least last week, they got the win over the Raiders on Thursday Night. The Broncos defense is good enough to get stops, and the offense shouldn’t have a problem scoring against the Chargers. Take the Broncos +3.
Panthers vs Washington: Ron Rivera used to coach the Panthers and is now coaching the Football Team. This will be quite a return. Washington is still fighting for a chance at the playoffs in the NFC East with a 6-8 record. It looks as though Dwayne Haskins will get the start after his shenanigans, but be on the lookout for new news. Take the Football Team -2.5.
Eagles vs Cowboys: Jalen Hurts has taken over at quarterback for the Eagles. The offense hasn't struggled with him out there, but the defense did last week. The Eagles have a better match-up in this spot and should have a pass rush that destroys the Cowboys. Take the Eagles -2.5.
Rams vs Seahawks: The Rams were embarrassed by the Jets last week. This is the perfect spot for them to respond. The Seahawks offense hasn’t looked fantastic and struggled for most of the second half against Washington. Take the Rams +1.
Titans vs Packers: If you like offense, this is the game for you. Neither defense has been consistently good, but both offenses have been. The Packers have shown a bit more consistency this season and should edge out the Titans late. Take the Packers -3.5.
Bills vs Patriots: Many would think this is a trap game. It might be. But then again, the Bills offense has been rolling all season long while the Patriots have struggled to do much of anything behind Cam Newton. We’ll stick to our gut and take the Bills in this spot. Take the Bills -7.
