NFL Betting Predictions: Week 6 Opening Line Report and Picks
Sunday’s game of the week will be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the Green Bay Packers. It’s the 4:25 EST start time and the Fox Game of the Week. We’ve got Aaron Rodgers facing off against Tom Brady.
There’s an argument for both quarterbacks when it comes to the GOAT (Greatest of all time) conversation.
While Brady averaged more yards per season in his career, Rodgers has averaged more touchdowns, less interceptions and a higher completion percentage.
But Brady also averaged 12.1 wins per season along with just 3.5 losses per season. Could that be because of the Patriots defense compared to the Packers defense throughout the seasons? Quite possibly. Rodgers also took more sacks than Brady per season.
When you take it one step further, Brady has played in 41 playoff games with a 30-11 record. He averaged more yards per game than Rodgers in the playoffs but actually struggled to get two touchdowns a game in the playoffs.
Brady scored just 1.78 touchdowns per game and also threw .85 interceptions per game. Meanwhile, Rodgers, in the playoffs, is 10-8 with 2.22 touchdowns per game and less interceptions at .66 per game.
Again, Brady owes that Patriots defense throughout his career for many of his wins. If Rodgers was in Brady’s shoes in New England, he’d likely have the same looking stats.
Brady has always been surrounded with more talent throughout his career. On defense and offense, that is. Even this season, Rodgers has had to play without Devante Adams and Adam Lazard but has still been able to get the job done. However, the Buccaneers offense has also had their fair share of injuries with Chris Godwin, Mike Evans, Leonard Fournette, Jordan Watson, and OJ Howard all missing time this season.
As these quarterbacks get closer to the end of their careers, we want to know who’s better. This game doesn’t decide that. But it helps us give an edge to the winner.
The Packers are small favorites on the road against the Buccaneers. Russell Wilson might be the frontrunner for the MVP, but Aaron Rodgers has the stats to win the award as well. A win against Brady will do just that.
Rodgers has a 92.8 total QBR, which is the highest by any player through four games since QBR was tracked. The other two quarterbacks were Peyton Manning and, of course, Tom Brady. Both of these quarterbacks won the MVP award after their career seasons.
With the way Rodgers is slinging it, it’d be hard to bet against him as a very small favorite.
Browns vs Steelers (-3.5, 51): When you combine both records between the Browns and Steelers, you’ll get a combined record of 8-1. This is crazy. The Browns might actually be good. The team is averaging 394.6 yards on offense and running for 188.4 yards per game. The Browns will be without Nick Chubb in the near future, but Kareem Hunt has stepped up and has made plenty of plays for the Browns. The defense hasn’t looked good, and they’ll also have a huge challenge against Chase Claypool, the rookie from Notre Dame, who broke out with four touchdowns last week against the Eagles in the Steelers victory. The Steelers defense had been so good this season. However, after a week off due to a postponed game against the Titans, the Steelers defense looked a bit out of sync. The Browns ran right through the Colts stellar run defense. And if they’re able to run through the Steelers run defense, too, the Browns have a serious chance in this one. I’m just not sure the Browns defense will get enough stops. Pick: Steelers.
Bears vs Panthers (-2.5, 44): The Panthers lost Christian McCaffrey two weeks into the season. They started 0-2, and now they’re on a three-game winning streak. We’ve watched the Bears sneak around and win four of five games this season with a quarterback change early in the season from Mitch Trubisky to Nick Foles. The Bears defense has allowed 20 points per game and have scored 21 points per game. They’re winning with the smallest margins possible. But a win is a win, and they’re 4-1. The reality is, the Panthers offense has looked solid recently, but their defense has stepped up, allowing 21 points or less in their last three games to the Chargers, Cardinals and Falcons. Teddy Bridgewater is becoming a leader, and the Panthers are becoming legitimate. Pick: Panthers.
Football Team vs Giants (-3, 43): The Giants are 0-5 but are actually favored in their divisional game against the Football Team. The Football Team made a quarterback change with Kyle Allen stepping up in place of Dwayne Haskins. Haskins wasn't even available with a stomach bug. Then Allen was hit with a cheap shot by Jalen Ramsey, and Alex Smith took over for the first time since 2018 after that gruesome leg injury. Smith couldn’t do anything offensively as the offensive line was brutal all game long. The Giants have one of the better defenses in the league, believe it or not, and should be able to keep the Football Team in check. Pick: Giants.
