NFL Betting Predictions: Week 13 Opening Line Report and Picks
The Broncos didn’t have any quarterbacks on their roster on Sunday due to COVID-19 hitting their three quarterbacks. Unable to pick up a new quarterback, the Broncos elected to roll with Kendall Hinton, who played quarterback for Wake Forest in college.
He couldn’t even hold the job in Wake Forest, but he was inserted in the starting lineup, starting quarterback for an NFL team.
The line against the Saints went to -15.5. And even then, nobody was scared. The public bets on the Saints skyrocketed knowing the Broncos were without a quarterback.
The public was right. Hinton went 1-for-9 with two interceptions for the Broncos in a disaster of a game.
It looked as though Phiillip Lindsay was going to run the wildcat all game. However, once the Broncos were down, they had no choice but to try Hinton at quarterback.
This was a tough situation for the entire Broncos team, but head coach Viic Fangio praised Hinton for doing everything he could.
The crazy thing about this situation was that people in the Broncos organization didn’t even know who Kendall Hinton was. He transitioned to being a wide receiver because he couldn’t even win the quarterback position in Wake Forest.
When he was out of the league, he was working a sales job. Then he got his opportunity in the NFL. It didn’t go as planned, but you can appreciate him trying in such difficult circumstances.
The Broncos became the first team with more passes intercepted than completions since 1998 against the Chiefs. It was an actual quarterback for the Chargers in Ryan Leaf, however.
In that game, with Drew Brees out, too, the Saints and Broncos threw the ball 25 times with Taysom Hill and Hinton. The average in a game is 35.2 passes per game, per team.
Broncos vs Chiefs (-13.5, 50): The Broncos have to hope at least one of their quarterbacks, specifically Drew Lock, continues to test negative for the virus. The Broncos defense hasn’t been bad this season, but the reality is that the Chiefs offense can make any defense look bad quickly. No matter who the quarterback is, the line knows that the Broncos will have major trouble trying to stick around, score-for-score, with the Chiefs. The Chiefs are coming off a big win against the Buccaneers and are a confident bunch. The Broncos can’t be confident right now. Pick: Chiefs
Browns vs Titans (-5.5, 54): A lot of Sunday’s slate features heavy favorites. This game is one of the few where both teams have a chance to win. The Titans embarrassed the Colts last week with a heavy amount of points and a defense that got stops early in the game to propel the lead. When the Titans offense is clicking, it’s impossible to stop. However, it is important to note that Myles Garrett, after being away from the team for two weeks with COVID, is on track to play in this game. The Browns have a fierce running game on offense and could catch Tennessee by surprise. Both are playoff caliber teams that should give us a fun show in this one. But I like Tennessee by a score. Pick: Titans.
Bengals vs Dolphins (-11, 41.5): Everyone had this game circled on their calendar. We were supposed to watch Joe Burrow against Tua Tagovailoa. Now Joe Burrow has torn his ACL, and it’s even unclear if Tagovailoa will be able to participate in this game with a banged up thumb. The Bengals stuck around against the Giants, but the Dolphins should be way too much to handle defensively. Offensively, no matter who plays quarterback, the Dolphins will score plenty. Pick: Dolphins
