Monday Night Football Picks Week 8: Buccaneers at Giants
If you’re a Monday Night Football fan, the next few weeks, including last week, might be painful to watch. If the Bucs’ offense doesn’t hold up their end of the bargain in this contest, we’ll likely be in for another dull affair similar to the Bears/Rams last week. The next “good” Monday Night Football game we should see happens in Week 11 as the Rams travel to Tampa to take on the Bucs. Next week, we get the Patriots at Jets, and the following week we get the Vikings at the Bears. Not exactly must-see TV unless you have wagered on it. And if you’re reading this piece, I’ll assume you will.
As far the recap needed for last week’s game, the Bears’ offense is a disaster. And if it wasn’t for the Rams and a few cool wrinkles they threw at the Bears’ defense to score two of their three touchdowns, the game would have stayed under the already low total by much more than it did. However, if you followed along with the play from last week, you would have been rewarded with a profitable night as we gave you the Rams -6. We are now 4-3 on the season, and we feel confident in adding to the win column this week.
Buccaneers at Giants Betting Story Lines
As for this week, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers travel to New York to take on the lowly and injury-riddled Giants. The Bucs are coming off a dominant win against the Las Vegas Raiders last week in which they put up at least 38 points for the third time in four games. The Bucs should have no issues putting up plenty of points this week as they go up against one of the weaker defensive units in the league. The Bucs currently sit 18th in total yards per game (378.6) and rank eighth in passing yards, 19th and rushing yards and third in points per game with 31.7. The Bucs offense, with the sudden addition of a running game, is finally starting to put everything together. They’ve gone back-to-back games with 38+ points and have scored at least 28 in each of their five wins. They should be able to take advantage of a weaker Giants defense unit, and we expect them to win this game going away.
As for the Giants, they come into this game after a crushing Thursday Night Football loss to the Eagles, a game in which they led 21-10 with less than five minutes to go. The Giants’ defense needs to step up in a big way this week if they are going to have any shot at winning this football game. The defense ranks a mediocre 17th in total yards allowed, 21st in passing yards, 8th in rushing yards and 14th in points allowed. The problem is that they can’t get off the field on third down, surrendering a 50.5 percent conversion rate to opposing teams. If the Giants can’t get off the field on third down on Monday, they are going to be in for a long night and they will have lost the game because of that. The Giants offense is among the worst units in the league, and I don’t expect them to turn into the Chiefs with a few extra days of rest. The Giants’ offense ranks 31st in total yards (299.6), 30th in passing yards (184.3) 28th in rushing yards (98.1), and 31st in points with 17.4.
Buccaneers at Giants Betting Odds and Trends
There are a few different spreads available, so regardless of what side you like, I suggest shopping around to get the best line. Some books are currently sitting at Tampa -10.5, with some upwards of Tampa -12.5 (-110) with the total set at 45. On the moneyline, the Bucs are between -590 to -610, while the Giants are between +400 to +450. The Bucs are 4-3 ATS after beating the Raiders last week. They come into this game on a 5-1 ATS run as road favorites and 5-2 ATS vs a team with a losing record. The Giants are also 4-3 ATS after covering as medium-sized dogs on Thursday. They come into this game 2-6 ATS vs teams with a winning record and 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games as home underdogs.
Buccaneers vs Giants Betting Predictions
I know it’s dumb to say, but this game should be rather straight forward for the Bucs – if they show up and play to their potential. The Bucs offense simply has too many weapons for the Giants to stop. If Brady continues to distribute the football to his entire offense, the Bucs should continue to score at will. And we have no idea how the Giants will be able to keep up. Remember, the Giants offense has a brutal offensive line. And as such, the offense as a whole, without Saquon Barkley, is struggling mightily. The Bucs secretly have a good defense, ranking in the Top 10 in total yards, passing yards, rushing yards, points and third-down conversion percentage allowed. It’s a lot of points to lay on a road team in a prime-time game, but this is a major mismatch.
Play: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -11 (-110)
