Free NBA Picks Wednesday 2/12/2020 and Opening Line Report
It's time to see which trade deadline deals made a difference for contending teams. Were the Lakers smart for staying quiet at the deadline? Was Andrew Wiggins a good play for the Warriors? Can Andre Drummond help the Cavs become a contender next year? These are all things we're going to be looking at as the second half of the season starts to play out. Here are the early leans for February 12 in the NBA.
Hawks vs. Cavaliers 2/12/20 (+1.5, 231.5)
The Hawks and Cavs had some interesting trade moves at the deadline. For the Cavs, Drummond hasn't been much of a factor since going to Cleveland. The Cavs lost to the Clippers, 133-92 with Drummond playing in the game. The Hawks have at least stayed in games and will have the best player on the floor in Trae Young who is starting to get more weapons and mature as a player. Take the Hawks to get this win on the road. The Cavs are not a good team. It's simple.
Key trends: Hawks are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up loss.
Early lean: Hawks, Over

Pistons vs. Magic 2/12/20 (-8.5, 205.5)
The Pistons traded Drummond and there's no way this team got better over the deadline. The Pistons are without Blake Griffin, Derrick Rose and more. They've lost three straight and accepted that this team won't get them anywhere. The Magic just defeated the Hawks, 135-126 after a three-game losing streak themselves. Orlando usually sticks with games at home against bad opponents and should be able to squeeze out a solid victory in this one.
Key trends: Magic are 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
Early lean: Magic, Under
Wizards vs. Knicks 2/12/20 (-2.5, 229.5)
The Knicks almost had a five-game winning streak but fell short to the Hawks in overtime. The Wizards, on the other hand, have won three of their last five games while Bradley Beal continues to prove he's an all-star caliber player. At home, the Wizards will look to out-score the Knicks and should have no problem doing that against a Knicks team that doesn't provide much defense either. The Wizards offense has been more consistent than the Knicks this season too.
Key trends: Wizards are 17-4 ATS in their last 21 games playing on 0 days rest.
Early lean: Wizards, Over
Bucks vs. Pacers 2/12/20 (+3.5, 228)
Giannis didn't play in the game against the Kings due to his new born baby, Liam. He's listed as day-to-day. Make sure he's in the lineup before taking any bets. Still, even without Giannis, the Bucks have found ways to win, with or without. This team is built around depth and chemistry and should be the East favorite currently by a wide margin. The Pacers have really struggled as of late with six straight losses. Take the Bucks and the momentum.
Key trends: Bucks are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.
Early lean: Bucks, Under
Raptors vs. Nets 2/12/20 (+4.5, 226)
Last year's NBA Champions have won 15 straight games without Kawhi Leonard. What a time to be alive. This team is legit. Brooklyn's been way too inconsistent this season to trust and really don't have any star power without Kyrie Irving. The Nets only lost to the Raptors by one point on February 8, but this time, the margin will be a lot larger, even at home.
Key trends: Raptors are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.
Early lean: Raptors, Over
Trail Blazers vs. Grizzlies 2/12/20 (-3, 235)
It's a battle between Damian Lillard and Ja Morant. Lillard has been on a hot surge for quite sometime now, leading Portland back into the playoff conversation going 7-3 in their last ten games. The Grizzlies have also gone 7-3 in their last ten games. When looking at stats, everything looks about even. Both teams score near 113 points per game while allowing near 115 points a game. Memphis shoots two percent higher and has better ball movement with seven more assists per game. That comes into play at home. The Grizzlies will feed off the energy in the FedEx Forum and win this one at home.
Key trends: Grizzlies are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 home games.
Early lean: Grizzlies, Over
Hornets vs. Timberwolves 2/12/20 (-7, 221)
I was going to say the battle between some bad teams. But Minnesota just landed D'Angelo Russell who put up 22 points in his debut. Towns put up 23 and together they added 45 points of the 126 in the loss to the Raptors. The Timberwolves star power should help get by the Hornets at home. The Hornets will not be able to score enough points to keep up with the new-look T-Wolves. Minnesota really just needs to score 100 points to get this win.
Key trends: Hornets are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games.
Early lean: Timberwolves, Under
Kings vs. Mavericks 2/12/20 (-5, 224)
Until Luka Doncic comes back, there will be some question marks surrounding the Mavericks. Porzingis needs help. He can't carry a team through much of anything. He's a second option and really not a number one option in the league. Tim Hardaway dropped 33 points in their last game against the Jazz where they lost, 123-119. The reality is, the Kings have not been great on the road this season. The Mavericks will still be able to defeat the Kings but it won't be pretty. Doncic needs to come back!
Key trends: Mavericks are 7-2-2 ATS in their last 11 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
Early lean: Mavericks, Over
Heat vs. Jazz 2/12/20 (-5.5, 216.5)
There are many teams in this league that are fantastic at home and not great on the road. The Miami Heat are one of them. On the road trip so far, the Heat are 1-3 with losses to the Clippers, Kings, and Blazers before a win against the Warriors. Playing the Jazz on the road won't be any easier after playing four games on the road already. The Jazz have been hot and cold all season but right now they've won three straight. Take the Jazz at home over the Heat.
Key trends: Jazz are 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 games following a ATS win.
Early lean: Jazz, Over
Warriors vs. Suns 2/12/20 (-5.5, 228)
Steph Curry has said he'll return after the all-star break. That's exciting news for basketball fans. But that also means he's not going to be playing in this game or in the near future. The Warriors have struggled scoring points with only 106.3 points per game and they allow near 115 points per game. The Warriors have been competitive at home but on the road, they lost to Brooklyn, 129-88. That was with D'Angelo Russell. Now they have Andrew Wiggins leading the show but still, the Suns have some really good potential on this team. They also beat the Rockets, 127-91 at home just recently. I like the Suns here.
Key trends: Warriors are 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 games following a double-digit loss at home.
Early lean: Suns, Over
Lakers vs. Nuggets 2/12/20 (-2, 230)
The Lakers have won four of their last five games and are back to playing good basketball behind LeBron and co. However, Denver has also won four of their last five games and they lone loss was in overtime in a fluke loss to the Pistons. Denver's last three games have been in the single digits. If you let the Lakers hang around on the road, they can ultimately steal the game and win. However, Denver has played extremely well at home and will ultimately pull out of this game with a win with some tough defense and timely shooting.
Key trends: Nuggets are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games.
Early lean: Nuggets, Over
