Free NBA Picks Tuesday, January 14 and Opening Line Report
Tuesday's slate features six games, with the most exciting matchup coming
from Brooklyn between
the Nets and the Jazz
. Kyrie Irving is back from the injury list and helped the Nets to their
first win since December 21, while the Jazz are riding a nine-game winning
streak without Mike Conley and potentially Donovan Mitchell. Also, the
Rockets will travel to Memphis
to take on the Grizzlies
, who are on a five-game winning streak. Will the Rockets snap the streak?
Here are the early leans.
Suns @ Hawks (TBD, TBD)
Who is this guy Kelly Oubre? Just kidding. He's shined bright for the Suns
this season with another insane performance in the Suns' win against the
Hornets with 25 points and 15 rebounds. With Oubre, the Suns have won their
last two games and three of their last five, while the Hawks are struggling
to find wins yet again. The Hawks have lost four straight games and just
recently took a 108-86 blow from the Brooklyn Nets. The Suns are hot and
cold, but right now they're hot. Ride them while they're hot.
Key trends:
Hawks are 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games vs. a team with a losing straight
up record.
Early lean: Suns, Over
Jazz @ Nets (TBD, TBD)
Irving is back! Honestly didn't expect to say that this season. With Irving back with the Nets, they destroyed the Hawks 108-86. The Hawks are having trouble winning games, but the Jazz aren't. Utah has won nine straight games and won their last one against Washington without Mitchell and Mike Conley. Mitchell had an illness that kept him out of Sunday's lineup, but he should be ready to go for Tuesday. It's hard to know how many minutes Irving will be able to play and if he's clutch enough in crunch time. I'm taking the Jazz with their nine-game winning streak, even on the road.
Key trends: Jazz are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.
Early lean: Jazz, Over
Knicks @ Bucks (-16.5, TBD)
Mike Miller's Knicks are 7-11 since he took over. Quite impressive after the how the Knicks started. However, the Bucks are no match for the Knicks. This team is 35-6 and has won eight of their last 10 games. The Bucks are nearly impossible to beat, especially at home. Take the Bucks in a blowout win over the Knicks. It's the Knicks way to win an emotional game against the Heat and then come back lackluster on the road.
Key trends: Bucks are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
Early lean: Bucks, Over
Rockets @ Grizzlies (+4.5, 238)
The Memphis Grizzlies have won five straight games behind Ja Morant and
Jonas Valanciunas. Valanciunas just scored 31 and brought down 19 rebounds
in the win against the Warriors on Sunday. The Rockets have played well
themselves. The Rockets lone loss in their last five games was to the
Thunder in Westbrook's return to Oklahoma City. Since then, the Rockets
defeated the Timberwolves, 139-109. Memphis is too good to be true. Expect
Houston to knock them off on the road.
Key trends:
Rockets are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 after allowing 100 points or more in
their previous game.
Early lean: Rockets, Over
Mavericks @ Warriors (-9, 223)
Dallas has struggled a little bit in their last 10 games, winning just five
of them. The Mavericks are without Kristaps Porzingis, who seems to always
be injured with something. Good news for the Mavericks, though, is that
they'll be facing a Warriors team that has more injuries. The Warriors have
lost eight straight games, and Luka Doncic is about to make it nine
straight. If Dallas wants to be a Championship contender, these are the
games that they need to win, and win big in.
Key trends:
Mavericks are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games vs. a team with a losing
straight up record.
Early lean: Mavericks, Over
Cavaliers @ Clippers (TBD, TBD)
Cleveland has won two straight. Let's all celebrate! The Clippers have won
three of their last five games and figure to put the Cavs right where they
belong. These teams don't compare as the Clippers average 10 more points
than the Cavs and allow four points less against. Paul George will be out
from this one, but Kawhi Leonard will find a way to put the beating down on
the Cavs.
Key trends:
Clippers are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 Tuesday games.
Early lean:
Clippers, Under
