Free NBA Picks Tuesday 8/4/2020 and Opening Line Report
We’re a couple games into the NBA restart, and it’s been so much fun. The NBA has done an impressive job with their bubble and hasn’t had to worry about safety of their players much like all of the other leagues have had to. They’ve added fans on zoom around the arena and have really just made the NBA restart enjoyable. There are some exciting match-ups and games that could make or break a team’s playoff hopes. Here are the leans for NBA’s slate on August 4.
Nets vs. Bucks 8/4/20 (TBA, TBA)
The Bucks struggled to close out the Houston Rockets and took a loss in a game where the Bucks probably should’ve won. Giannis Antetkounmpo looked really good against the Rockets, as did Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez, who scored over 20 points each. The Bucks struggled from the three-point line, but the Nets aren’t going to be able to play that kind of perimeter defense against the Bucks. After all, the Nets have allowed 238 points in their last two games and in their loss to the Magic, they allowed Orlando to shoot 35.5 percent from deep.
Key trends: Nets are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS win.
Early lean: Nets, Over
Mavericks vs. Kings 8/4/20 (+5.5, 236.5)
The Mavericks are currently 0-2 since the NBA restart and just lost a head-scratcher to the Phoenix Suns, 117-115. Doncic and Porzingis combined for 70 of Dallas’ 115 points. They’ll need a couple other players to step up offensively and defensively if they’re going to go anywhere this season. The Kings have also lost two straight games and have allowed an average of 130.5 points per game defensively to the Spurs and Magic. Look for the Mavericks to score plenty of points while playing the defense they’re capable of.
Key trends: Kings are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Early lean: Mavericks, Under
Suns vs. Clippers 8/4/20 (-9, 230)
The surprise of the restart has to be the Suns. They’re now 2-0 with wins over Washington and Dallas. The win over Washington isn’t a surprise, but that win over the Mavericks has given them plenty of momentum in this game. However, the Clippers exploded against the Pelicans, winning 126-103 after a one basket loss to the Lakers to start the second portion of the season. Paul George has looked fantastic, especially from downtown, in the first two games. The Suns have been able to win their games via offense. Not by defense. The Clippers have one of the better defenses in the league along with a polarizing offense. The Clippers will have their way in this one.
Key trends: Clippers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
Early lean: Clippers, Over
Magic vs. Pacers 8/4/20 (TBA, TBA)
The Magic are fighting for a playoff spot in the East and have now won back-to-back games to start the NBA season. However, Jonathan Isaac seems to have torn his ACL. The Pacers don’t feel too bad as they’ll be without a bunch of players on their roster, including Malcolm Brogdon, who is questionable for this one. TJ Warren stepped up in a big way against the 76ers, with 53 points and an upset win. Both teams are hungry to prove something in this game. The Pacers and Magic both allowed the same points per game at 107.6 points. Whichever team plays better defense will win. I’ll roll with the Pacers here.
Key trends: Magic are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
Early lean: Pacers, Over
Celtics vs Heat 8/4/20 (+3.5, 223)
The Celtics looked a little off against the Milwaukee Bucks to start the restart of the NBA season. Then the Celtics came out looking unstoppable against the Blazers, only to blow their large lead. The Celtics edged the Blazers, but it was much closer than that game ever should’ve been. Jayson Tatum, who struggled in his first game of the re-start, was a man on a mission against the Blazers, scoring 34 points. It was good to see Tatum back in form. The Heat already defeated the Nuggets, who were without Jamal Murray, Gary Harris and Will Barton, but the team looked really good. However, they’re playing the Raptors and then the Celtics in back-to-back games. Do you trust the Heat back-to-back?
Key trends: Heat are 3-7-2 ATS in their last 12 games playing on 0 days rest.
Early lean: Celtics, Under
Rockets vs. Trail Blazers 8/4/20 (-4.5, 243.5)
The undersized Houston Rockets found a way against the lanky Milwaukee Bucks and have now won two straight games to start the NBA restart. The Blazers haven’t looked too bad themselves, with a win over the Grizzlies and a four-point loss to the Celtics. The Blazers are fighting for a playoff spot, and the loss to the Celtics really didn’t help their chances. The pressure is on for the Blazers, who are almost at full health (outside of Ariza, who isn’t playing). The Blazers need this game more than the Rockets and match up extremely well, especially down low. The Blazers have many big men who can rebound and post up against the Rockets. I like the Blazers to find a way in this one.
Key trends: Trail Blazers are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
Early lean: Blazers, Over
