Free NBA Picks Thursday 8/6/2020 and Opening Line Report
The NBA will have six more games for Thursday’s slate. One of the matchups taking place will be between two undefeated bubble teams in the Indiana Pacers and Phoenix Suns. We’ll also have a game between two struggling bubble teams in the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Clippers. Both of these teams are desperate for a second win. Meanwhile, the Blazers are healthy and facing a Nuggets team that isn’t nearly as healthy. The Blazers have been where the Nuggets have been health wise, so they’re not feeling sorry. Here are the leans for August 6 in the NBA.
Pelicans vs Kings 8/6/20 (+4, 234.5)
The Pelicans surprised the Memphis Grizzlies with a solid defensive performance in their win. The Pelicans won 109-99 and held Memphis fewer than 100 points in the game after losing their first two of the season. The Kings have been less fortunate. They’ve lost three straight to begin the restart after an overtime loss to the Mavs. If the Pelicans can string together more defense, the Kings will lose another one.
Key trends: Pelicans are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.
Early lean: Pelicans, Under
Heat vs Bucks 8/6/20 (TBD, TBD)
The Bucks were just embarrassed by the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets were without their entire rotation and still found a way to beat a full-strength Milwaukee Bucks team. Are the Bucks a fraud or will they come back against a solid Miami Heat team that has looked fairly solid since the restart? The Bucks have lost two straight. And while it’s not time to panic, another loss here could really start to make you wonder. The Bucks are deep and have plenty of talent, but they’ve got to defend. That’s something they’ve struggled with to start the restart.
Key trends: Bucks are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
Early lean: Heat, Over
Pacers vs. Suns 8/6/20 (-3, 228.5)
The Pacers have had plenty of injuries and plenty of different rotations. One guy that hasn’t been bothered is TJ Warren, who has absolutely dominated since the restart. The Pacers are 3-0 in the bubble and will look to go 4-0 against a 29-39 Suns team that has also won three straight in the bubble. The Suns have a talented roster that is starting to produce, but the Pacers surely have the better defense. I’m not so sure the Suns can keep winning these tight games any longer.
Key trends: Pacers are 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
Early lean: Pacers, Under
Clippers @ Mavericks 8/6/20 (+4, 231)
The Clippers are currently 1-2 in the bubble after a two-point loss to the Suns. The Clippers can’t be happy with this restart. However, with playoffs already a given, they have time to clean things up. Plus, since we’re talking about teams that are not happy, the Mavericks haven’t looked all that great this restart, either. The Mavericks are 1-2 in Orlando and have already played in two overtime games and took a two-point loss to the Suns. Every game has been close, but they haven’t been able to close out games. The Clippers and Mavericks would both love to have this game, but the Clippers have the better defense to get the job done.
Key trends: Mavericks are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.
Early lean: Clippers, Over
Blazers vs Nuggets 8/6/20 (TBD, TBD)
The Blazers are now 2-1 on the season and almost made it 3-0 with a sweet comeback and a tight game against the Celtics. The Blazers have a couple big men on the court with Zach Collins and Jusef Nurkic. This was a glaring hole for the Blazers this season that has been cleaned up in Orlando. The defense has gotten so much better. They held the Rockets to 102 points! The Nuggets are currently 1-1 in the bubble and will be playing a second game of a back-to-back in this one. I’d trust the Blazers more in this scenario.
Key trends: Nuggets are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
Early lean: Blazers, Over
Lakers vs Rockets 8/6/20 (TBD, TBD)
The Lakers have been one of the better defensive teams in the bubble to start the season as teams are consistently scoring around 100-110 points per game. The Lakers have so much star power but have started a bit slow offensively. There’s a bunch of older folks on the team that might be getting a bit tired in Orlando. In this game, you’ll just have to wait for the Rockets to go cold. The Lakers have so much length compared to the Rockets. Once the Rockets start missing, the Lakers will likely pull away,
Key trends: Rockets are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games overall.
Early lean: Lakers, Under
