Free NBA Picks Saturday 8/8/2020 and Opening Line Report

Saturday’s NBA action features five interesting matchups. The undefeated (in the bubble) Phoenix Suns will take on the Miami Heat, while the Mavs will take on the Bucks, looking to find any answers defensively after starting 1-3 in the bubble. Here are the early leans for Saturday, August 8, in Orlando.

Clippers vs Trail Blazers 8/8/20 (TBD, TBD)

The Clippers are coming off a 126-111 win against the Mavericks, while the Trail Blazers are coming off back-to-back victories over the Nuggets and Rockets. The Blazers have looked very good offensively, winning three of their first four games of the restart. The Blazers are near full strength, and it’s showing. Adding big men Zach Collins and Jusuf Nurkic has really helped the Blazers become a force during this restart. The Clippers started the restart off with some solid defense and have been one of the more consistent teams defensively this season. This is a good matchup for the Clippers.

Key trends: Clippers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.

Jazz vs Nuggets 8/8/20 (TBD, TBD)

The Jazz defeated the Memphis Grizzlies, 124-115, but that’s not saying much. The Jazz already have losses to the Lakers and Thunder and a two-point win against the Pelicans that was underwhelming. Meanwhile, Denver is still struggling to field a full healthy roster with Jamal Murray still sidelined due to an injury. Murray could be back for this game. However, either way, the Nuggets, led by Jokic, should be able to squeak by the Jazz, who again, haven’t looked very good offensively other than that Memphis game.

Key trends: Jazz are 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 games overall.

Lakers vs Pacers 8/8/20 (TBD, TBD)

It’s been a surprising week for the Lakers. First, Los Angeles takes a loss against the Thunder. Then James goes to the bench due to injury and the Lakers get crushed by James Harden and the Rockets, without Russ Westbrook. Harden had a near triple double with 39 points against the LeBron James-less Lakers. That’s why LeBron is the best player in the NBA. If he’s back, the team’s back. There’s no way this team loses three in a row, right? The Pacers were stunned by the best team in the bubble, the Phoenix Suns, for their first loss of the restart.

Key trends: Pacers are 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600.

Early lean: Lakers, Over

Suns vs Heat 8/8/20 (TBD, TBD)

The Suns are 4-0 since the restart, and it has NBA fans around the world wondering if this is the Suns team we should expect beyond this season. DeAndre Ayton is starting to look like a real polarizing center, while Cameron Johnson is helping down low. Devin Booker is doing plenty of the scoring as well. This is an interesting squad with plenty of talent. The talent just never showed on the court. Going up against Miami might be a challenge for the Suns. The Heat have gone 2-2 in the restart but have gone up against four teams with winning records. The Heat are also young and talented.

Key trends: Heat are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 games following a straight up loss of more than 10 points.

Bucks vs Mavericks 8/8/20 (+9, TBD)

It’s been a weird start for the Bucks and Mavericks to the second portion of the NBA season. The Bucks lost to the Nets but then defeated the Heat by 14 in their next game. Meanwhile, the Mavericks have played two overtime games and lost two games to the Suns and Clippers in regulation. Doncic and the Mavs are 1-3 in the bubble, and it’s not going to get easier against the Bucks. The Mavs are having trouble defending right now.

Key trends: Mavericks are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
