Free NBA Picks Friday, January 10 and Opening Line Report
In Friday's 10-game slate, the Knicks and Pelicans are on national
television. I guess that sums up the quality of these 10 games. However,
quality or not, there are still decisions to be made and also money to be
made. The Nets are looking to stop the bleeding after losing seven straight
games, while the Jazz and Lakers look to continue their long winning
streaks. Here are the previews and early leans for Friday's action.
Hawks @ Wizards (TBD, TBD)
The Hawks lost back-to-back home games to Denver and Houston and will now
travel
on the road to Washington DC
after going 2-8 in their last 10 games. The Wizards will be without Bradley
Beal with a lower leg injury. The Wizards' last game without Beal was a
123-89 loss to the Magic on the road. However, Ish Smith has taken on a
larger roll with Beal sidelined coming off the bench leading the team in
scoring in their two wins against the Nuggets and Celtics at home. The game
against Orlando is what we expected from this depleted Wizards team. It's
not what we're getting, though.
Key trends:
Wizards are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following an ATS loss.
Early lean: Wizards, Under
Pelicans @ Knicks (TBD, TBD)
The Knicks will potentially be without Julius Randle and Marcus Morris for this one. Both are considered questionable at this point. For the Pelicans, Jrue Holiday has been sidelined with an elbow injury and will also be questionable for this game. The Pelicans are trading wins for losses. New York took four straight losses on the road and are now home where they got their last win. Look for the Knicks to enjoy home-court advantage and put the Pelicans away.
Key trends: Knicks are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.
Early lean: Knicks, Under
Heat @ Nets (+3, 217)
The Nets absolutely stink right now and have lost seven straight games, while Miami just won an emotional road contest against the Pacers. The Heat are 8-2 in their last 10 going up against a Nets team that is 2-8 in their last 10. Miami isn't as good at home. However, when playing the Nets, they'll be just fine.
Key trends: Heat are 15-7-1 ATS in their last 23 games as a favorite.
Early lean: Heat, Under
Spurs @ Grizzlies (+1, 234)
San Antonio is so hot and cold this season, they're impossible to predict.
The Spurs lost to the Thunder at home, went 1-1 against the Bucks and then
defeated Boston by double digits in Boston. The Spurs might be 16-20, but
they have the ability to knock off any team, any time. Memphis is on a
three-game winning streak and have won four of their last five games,
including a 140-114 win over the Clippers. Memphis should be able to ride
the wave of being home against a Spurs team that will need to catch its
breath.
Key trends:
Grizzlies are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games.
Early lean: Grizzlies, Under
Pacers @ Bulls (TBD, TBD)
Chicago is falling into the deep end real fast. The Bulls are 13-25 and
have now lost five straight games, with the first three at home and the
last two on the road. It's not getting easier for the Bulls, but at least
they're back home where they get to regroup and find some kind of identity.
With Malcolm Brogdon most likely out against the Bulls, Chicago should keep
this game close. Take the points.
Key trends:
Bulls are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up loss.
Early lean: Bulls, Over
Magic @ Suns (-1, 217.5)
Orlando has won four of their last five games and might be hitting their
peak. The Magic were on a four-game homestand and will now travel to
Phoenix to start the roadtrip. The Suns haven't played their best
basketball at home, going 1-2 in their last three consecutive home games.
For the Magic, it's a lot of travel but they're still the better team.
They're not deep into the roadtrip just yet and should be able to cover the
spread in this one.
Key trends:
Magic are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % below
.400.
Early lean: Magic, Over
Hornets @ Jazz (-13, 212.5)
Utah has won seven straight games and are 9-1 in their last 10. This team
is clicking on all cylinders. And if you think the Hornets will be the team
to drop them, think again. The Jazz have helped their winning streak
playing poor quality teams like the Knicks, Pelicans, Magic, Bulls,
Pistons. That's their last five wins. They've defeated poor teams. The
Hornets fit that list just as well. Utah at home is scary enough.
Key trends:
Jazz are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 after allowing 100 points or more in their
previous game.
Early lean: Jazz, Over
Lakers @ Mavericks (TBD, TBD)
Anthony Davis and Kristaps Porzingis will not be playing due to injuries.
For some, the excitement level might drop for a game like this. However,
the Lakers have won six straight games and it'll now turn to the LeBron
James show, which is always fun. The Mavericks haven't played their best
basketball without Porzingis but usually keep home games close at the end.
With the Anthony Davis injury, I don't know how much LeBron can handle, so
I'm going to take the points with the Mavericks at home. Luka Doncic is
averaging almost 30 points a game and should hit around that average in
this one if they're going to find a way to win this one.
Key trends:
Mavericks are 10-3-1 ATS in their last 14 games following a straight up
loss.
Early lean: Mavericks, Over
Bucks @ Kings (TBD, TBD)
The Kings have turned things around, winning two straight games against the
Warriors and the Suns. Yeah, that doesn't mean much. The Bucks are 8-2 in
their last 10 games, and anyone with five senses can smell a blowout in
this one. The Kings are not built to stay with the Bucks, and it's really
that simple.
Key trends:
Bucks are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning % below
.400.
Early lean: Bucks, Over
Warriors @ Clippers (TBD, TBD)
The Warriors have taken six straight losses and will be up against a
Clippers team that is really striving to get better. The Clippers have had
some time since defeating the Knicks on January 5 and should be well
rested. Take the Clippers whatever the spread is. The Warriors aren't ready
for what's to come.
Key trends:
Clippers are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS loss.
Early lean: Clippers, Over
