Free College Basketball Picks Wednesday, January 8 and Opening Line Report
The final two remaining undefeated teams in college basketball, (5) Auburn
and (7) San Diego State, will put their record on the line in conference
play action on Wednesday. Also, (10) Florida State, (3) Kansas, and (2)
Duke have conference matchups on the road. Check out Wednesday's college
basketball preview and early leans to see which ranked teams will cover
their hefty spreads
.
(10) Florida State @ Wake Forest (-6.5, 144.5)
Florida State is coming off a huge win on the road against (13) Louisville,
78-65. Florida State led the entire way and didn't let up at all on the
road. FSU has now won six straight games and are 3-1 in conference play
this season. Wake Forest is 1-2 in conference play but have won their last
three games against quality teams like Xavier and on the road against
Pittsburgh. The Seminoles have one of the best defenses in the ACC. Wake
Forest should struggle to get open looks and will likely turn the ball over
to an FSU team that gets 9.5 steals per game. Ride FSU during their
six-game winning streak.
Key trends:
Seminoles are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games as a favorite of 0.5-6.5.
Early lean:
Florida State, Under
(3) Kansas @ Iowa State (-6.5, 147)
Big 12 conference play began January 4. Kansas defeated West Virginia, 60-53 while Iowa State lost to TCU in overtime, by two on the road. Iowa State will likely be overlooked due to their 7-6 record but the Cyclones did defeat the Seton Hall Pirates after playing them for a second time this season. Iowa State can score in bunches as they average 80.2 points per game, however, if you watched Kansas play West Virginia, it's clear that Kansas' defense will not be allowing Iowa State to score 80 points in this one. Iowa State also lost to Florida A&M at home on New Year's Eve. If Kansas wants to prove that they're NCAA Championship worthy, this is a must win.
Key trends: Jayhawks are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games as a favorite.
Early lean: Kansas, Under
(2) Duke @ Georgia Tech (-12, 139.5)
If it weren't for Saturday NFL, Georgia Tech would've been in the spotlight after defeating UNC, 96-83. Yes, Georgia Tech put up 96 points on the Tar Heels. Georgia Tech is 7-7 on the year, but if you ask people familiar with the team, they're way better than their record. The Yellow Jackets lost to FSU by 12 but defeated Hawaii on the road along with Boise State at home recently. While the Yellow Jackets are "underrated", the Duke Blue Devils are rated right where they should be. Duke is on a seven-game winning streak and are now 3-0 in ACC conference play. Duke defeated Miami on the road by 33 and Boston College at home by 39. I'd say a 25-point win is in the cards for Duke in this one.
Key trends: Blue Devils are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games.
Early lean: Duke, Over
Vanderbilt @ (5) Auburn (-15, 150)
Auburn is 13-0 on the season and just started SEC conference play with a
win against Mississippi State. Sure, Auburn has squeaked by some close
games, but going 13-0 is no accident. Auburn is scoring 82 points per game
and allowing the opposition to score 65.8 points per game. The Tigers also
bring down 42.3 rebounds per game. Vanderbilt's last five games have come
at home. This will be the Commodores first conference game of the season
and it'll come on the road. Vandy only played one non-conference game on
the road and lost to Richmond in overtime earlier in the season. Look for
Auburn to win this game through rebounding and high percentage shots.
Key trends:
Tigers are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 home games vs. a team with a road
winning % of less than .400.
Early lean:
Auburn, Over
(7) San Diego State @ Wyoming (-16, 120.5)
The San Diego State Aztecs are also undefeated on the season. A 15-0 start
has moved them to the number 7 slot in the AP poll after starting the
season unranked. San Diego State proved they belonged at the top with a
nine-point win over Utah State, a team that was ranked to begin the season.
SDSU won't have much of a match-up, even on the road, against Wyoming who
has now lost two straight games to Colorado State and Boise State on the
road. Wyoming's last home win against a non-division I opponent came
against Louisiana on November 21 in overtime.
Key trends:
Aztecs are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 road games.
Early lean: San Diego State, Under
