Free College Basketball Picks Wednesday 3/11/2020 and Opening Line Report
March 11 features just one mid-major championship game. However, Wednesday is the start of the many major conference tournaments, including the Pac-12, Big Ten, Big East, Big 12 and the SEC. The ACC began yesterday with North Carolina and Pittsburgh moving on to the second round of the tournament. North Carolina is a 14-seed in the ACC but is a favorite in the second round of the tournament. I don't think I've ever seen that before. Here are the early leans for some of March 11's most exciting college basketball matchups.
Boston University vs. Colgate 3/11/20 (-7, 140)
The Patriot League will be the only Championship game on Wednesday. They'll feature Boston University and Colgate in a 3 vs 1 match-up. Boston has won four of their last five games, with the lone outright loss by just two points on the road at Lehigh. Colgate had a 25-win season and will look for their NCAA Tournament berth. Colgate was the clear favorite in the Patriot league all season long. This team scores plenty, averaging 76.6 points per game. The last time these two teams met, Colgate destroyed Boston University on the road. Look for the same thing to happen in this one. This game will be played at Colgate, at home. They'll feed off the energy in the building.
Key trends:
Raiders are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games.
Early lean: Colgate, Over
Northwestern vs. Minnesota 3/11/20 (-8, 137)
The Big Ten Tournament will get underway at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. Northwestern has eight wins all season, but they're coming off an upset win over Penn State at home. Minnesota last played Northwestern on February 23 where they won on the road, 83-57. Northwestern and Nebraska are two teams to fade in the Big Ten. Everything crazy happens in March but it won't be for these two teams. Take Minnesota in a blowout first game of the season.
Key trends:
Golden Gophers are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games after scoring more than 90 points in their previous game.
Early lean: Minnesota, Over

St. John's vs. Georgetown 3/11/20 (+2.5, 153)
Plenty of tournaments are underway. This game will start the Big East tournament, and it'll be a good one. St. John's won two of their last three games with wins against Marquette and Creighton at home. Georgetown has lost their last six games outright. This game is being played at Madison Square Garden, the home of St. John's. You better believe the Johnnies will move on in the first round of the tournament. They'll be a small favorite with a lower seeding but it's the home factor.
Key trends:
Red Storm are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.
Early lean: St. John's, Over
Boston College vs. Notre Dame 3/11/20 (-9, 140.5)
In the second round of the ACC, Boston College will play Notre Dame in a 10-7 matchup. The Eagles have lost their last five games outright, while Notre Dame won three of their last five games straight up. Notre Dame has more offense. However, when Boston College welcomed Notre Dame to their building on February 26, the Fighting Irish escaped with a 62-61 win. Look for this game to be much closer than the spread suggests. A 10 vs 7 and
a nine-point spread. Seems ridiculous because it is.
Key trends:
Eagles are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 neutral site games.
Early lean: Boston College, Under
North Carolina vs. Syracuse 3/11/20 (+2.5, 148.5)
The Tar Heels are a 14-seed facing a six seeded Syracuse. Yet, nobody is counting out North Carolina, who has never been in this position before. North Carolina defeated Virginia Tech in the first round of the tournament and will now take on Syracuse in back-to-back days. UNC have won four of their last five games, while Syracuse has dropped two of their last three. One of those losses was to North Carolina. A defensive-minded team allowed UNC to 92 points in that loss. I don't think I've ever seen a 14-seed be a favorite over a six-seed. UNC is, and they'll also get the job done. Stunning.
Key trends:
Tar Heels are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up win of more than 20 points.
Early lean: North Carolina, Over
