Free College Basketball Picks Tuesday 1/28/2020 and Opening Line Report
Tuesday's College Basketball slate features some exciting conference action
in the Big East, ACC, Big Ten and SEC. This is the time of year where
conference games become more important as February and March approach.
Guaranteeing bye-games or favorable matchups will be key to some of these
teams winning their conference tournaments. Here are the early leans for
Tuesday's slate.
Villanova vs. St. John's 1/28/2020
(+3, 140.5)
Villanova is on a six-game winning streak and steadily in second place in the Big East behind Seton Hall. St. John's ended a three-game losing streak after their win against DePaul, a team in the bottom of the Big East standings. This will be a good match-up for St. John's. The Red Storm play very well at home and will be home underdogs where they'll get a couple points. St. John's matches Villanova in plenty of categories and might even be the more active team on defense. Take St. John's to pull off the upset against the spread.
Key trends: Red Storm are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games as a home underdog.
Early lean: St. John's, Under
Florida State vs. Virginia 1/28/2020
(-1.5, 115.5)
Before the season began, you'd think these records would be switched.
Florida State is 17-2 on the year while Virginia is 13-6. FSU has now won
ten straight games after sneaking by Notre Dame, at home, 85-84. The
Seminoles last three games have been won by four points or less. Virginia's
won two of their last three games and still have a terrifying defense. The
defense won't be able to stop Florida State's offense well enough while
Virginia's offense is one of the league's worst. Take Florida State in this
battle.
Key trends:
Cavaliers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games.
Early lean: Florida State, Over

Purdue vs. Rutgers 1/28/2020 (-2.5, 121.5)
Rutgers is undefeated at home playing against the most inconsistent team in college basketball. Purdue has destroyed Michigan State and Wisconsin but also got destroyed by Illinois and scored just 50 points against Maryland in a loss. Rutgers will be slight favorites and with the home win streak on the line, in a sell-out, Rutgers will run over Purdue. Purdue struggles to score on the road and Rutgers has one of the best defenses in the country.
Key trends: Scarlet Knights are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games as a favorite.
Early lean: Rutgers, Under
Pittsburgh vs. Duke 1/28/2020
(-16.5, 137.5)
Duke had lost two games back-to-back before absolutely destroying Miami,
89-59. I don't think the Blue Devils were happy with their latest
performances. Pittsburgh is a bottom tier team of the ACC and recently lost
69-61 to Syracuse after winning two over UNC and Boston College. Pittsburgh
had already lost to Miami this year by 8 points while Duke beat Miami by
30. Take Duke. It doesn't matter how high the spread is. They'll cover.
Key trends:
Blue Devils are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning %
above .600.
Early lean: Duke, Over
Butler vs. Georgetown 1/28/2020
(+1.5, 141)
Butler was one loss away from getting bounced from the AP Poll. Then they
beat Marquette in overtime. Still, they might not get the benefit of the
doubt after three straight losses in the Big East prior. Georgetown has
been very good at home but have lost their last two games in conference
play. Georgetown should be able to find some rhythm at home against a tough
Butler defense. Butler's defense hasn't been nearly as good as it was to
start the season. Take the Georgetown offense to put in some work and win
this game.
Key trends:
Hoyas are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games.
Early lean: Georgetown, Over
Auburn vs. Ole Miss 1/28/2020 (+5.5, 140.5)
Ole Miss is a loss away from getting back to the dreadful .500 record. Ole
Miss went back over .500 with a win over Georgia on the road but had lost a
bunch of games prior. Ole Miss' last two games at home were each four point
losses while Auburn has lost their last two road games by hefty scores.
Auburn hasn't played anyone this season and quite frank, isn't a Top 25
team. Ole Miss should stay in this game and potentially upset Auburn. Take
Ole Miss as home underdogs.
Key trends:
Tigers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight up win.
Early lean: Ole Miss, Over
