Free College Basketball Picks Thursday 1/30/2020 and Opening Line Report

Thursday's college basketball slate features five games in the Big Ten, Pac 12 and a West Coast Conference matchup with Gonzaga. Gonzaga has destroyed opponents this season and will go on the road to face a Santa Clara team that they beat at home by 50 while Iowa and Illinois put their long winning streaks on the line against other solid Big Ten competition. Here's the early leans for Thursday's action.

Minnesota vs. Illinois 1/30/20 (-4.5, 136.5)

Illinois has been on a magical run, winning their last six games in the Big Ten. They'll have an opportunity for a seventh at home against Minnesota. Minnesota won their last road game against Ohio State but recently lost to Michigan State at home, 70-52. Illinois is shooting 46.5 percent from the field and rebounds 40.5 times per game while scoring more points and allowing less than Minnesota. At home, Illinois should extend their streak. Home teams usually fare well in the Big Ten.

Key trends: Fighting Illini are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.

Early lean: Illinois, Over

Iowa vs. Maryland 1/30/20 (-5.5, 145.5)

Like Illinois, Iowa is on a long winning streak with five straight wins in Big Ten play. They'll take on Maryland on the road. Maryland has won three straight games, with their last two coming on the road against the middle group of the Big Ten. Iowa benefitted from playing three straight home games during their winning streak. In their last five games, Iowa has only played Northwestern on the road. Iowa did, however, beat Maryland at home 67-49 earlier in the season. Since the loss to Iowa, Maryland has won three of their last four and lost one game to Wisconsin on the road by two points. Maryland will put on a better performance in this one against Iowa. Take Maryland.

Key trends: Terrapins are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win.

Oregon vs. Cal 1/30/20 (+11, 130)

It looks like Oregon is back on track after defeating UCLA at home, 96-75. UCLA is just as bad as California, if not worse. Cal actually lost to UCLA, 50-40, a week ago. Oregon has won three straight and should be able to blow the roof off Cal in this one. There's no way Cal can keep up with Oregon offensively or defensively.

Key trends: Ducks are 11-3 ATS in their last 14 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.

Early lean: Oregon, Under

Gonzaga vs. Santa Clara 1/30/20 (+17, 158)

Gonzaga already defeated Santa Clara 104-54 this season. Santa Clara has 17 wins this season. That's how good Gonzaga has been. Whatever the line is, it's hard to not take Gonzaga. They will always have the potential to defeat West Coast Conference teams by 30+ points. They've done it in their last three games.

Key trends: Bulldogs are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite.

Early lean: Gonzaga, Over

Colorado vs. UCLA 1/30/20 (+5, 135)

Earlier, I destroyed UCLA and California. So, there's no way I'm taking UCLA at home against a ranked Colorado. Colorado has won four of their last five games, with the lone loss coming against Arizona on the road. UCLA ended their two-game winning streak with that loss to Oregon, and Colorado should create the same outcome. A 20-point win. Colorado defense is hard to figure out.

Key trends: Buffaloes are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
