Doc's: Last week, you predicted the Houston Astros winning this year's World Series in six games. You are one win away from cashing in a winner, so are you feeling good about this pick given the unique way the first five games have unfolded?
RE: The way this series has gone, anything could happen. Washington won the first two games on the road by a combined score of 17-7 only to see Houston sweep the three games at Nationals Park by a combined score of 19-3. Yet, I do think the Astros will get it done at home in Game 6 to win the series.
Doc's: One of the big college football showdowns on Saturday's slate is the No. 8 Georgia Bulldogs on the road against the No. 6 Florida Gators . This game is basically for the SEC East Division title, so how do you see things playing out with Georgia favored by 6.5 points on the road?
RE: This is a great warmup game to next Saturday's LSU at Alabama showdown in the SEC West. Right now, I have Georgia covering the 6.5 points on the road as the favorite. However, if that line should move to seven points, Florida suddenly becomes an interesting play. I see the Bulldogs as the better overall team with quite a bit on the line given the bad loss to South Carolina.
Doc's: The NFL regular season has reached the halfway point of its schedule. The New England Patriots are off to a perfect 8-0 straight-up start with a 6-2 record against the spread. In their toughest test to date, they are 3.5-point road favorites against the SU 5-2 (2-4-1 ATS) Baltimore Ravens coming off a bye. Is Sunday night's contest a good time to go against New England?
RE: The Patriots been a solid bet all season long, with the exception of two closer-than-expected division wins. There is nothing that I have seen in their last four covers that would make me go against them on Sunday night against Baltimore. Maybe if the line moved to four points, I would at least revisit the situation.
Doc's: The biggest race on Friday's Breeders' Cup card at Santa Anita Park is the TVG Juvenile . Do you have any early thoughts on how to bet this race?
RE: The two favorites are Eight Rings and Dennis' Moment, but the nine-horse field is deep in talent. You could also add Maxfield to the mix as a good pick to finish in the money. Track conditions at Santa Anita on Friday will weigh heavily into my actual bets.
Doc's: Trainer Bob Baffert's McKinzie is the top favorite to win Saturday's $6 million BC Classic at a few online sportsbooks. Given the projected field for this race, would you agree that this is the horse to beat?
RE: McKinzie should be the horse to beat in this race breaking from a favorable post. I also like Vino Russo breaking from the outside in the 11-horse field as one to work into a possible trifecta play. There is no dominant contender in the field for this year's Classic to keep things very interesting right up until post time on Saturday night.
