Weekly Q&A with Doc's Sports Expert Handicapper Raphael Esparza
Summertime at Doc's Sports Service remains filled with high-value sports betting opportunities from the best expert handicappers in the nation. Leading the charge with one of the most expansive range of selection packages is Raphael Esparza . The former Vegas Sports Informer retired from a long and successful run in the Las Vegas sportsbook industry in 2013 holding the prestigious position of Director of the Race and Sports Book for MGM Resorts' Aria.
Since then, he has devoted all of his time to running a successful sports investment business from his home base in Las Vegas as well as from the Big Easy in New Orleans. Covering a wide array of betting options, you can always find something to bet on with his expert picks no matter what time of year it is. Each and every week, Doc's gets the chance to gain Esparza's insight into some the hottest trending betting topics in the world of sports and beyond.
Doc's: Would you agree that the Los Angeles Lakers are legitimate favorites to win next season's NBA title with the addition of Anthony Davis to the roster?
RE: After Lebron James and Davis, there are just too many holes to fill on the Lakers' current roster to make a championship run in 2020. The betting public has been driving down the Lakers' odds since this deal first started to gain national attention.
Doc's: The first round of games in the CFL regular season featured Ottawa's straight-up upset against Calgary as a heavy road underdog. Looking at this week's reduced three-game schedule, is there any upsets specials on your CFL betting board?
RE: Toronto remains an unknown after sitting out Week 1 with a bye. If the spread continues to rise after opening as two-point underdogs, I do see value in betting the Argonauts this Saturday night at home against East Division foe Hamilton.
Doc's: Diversity has always been your strong suit as an expert sports handicapper. Which team do you have winning Tuesday night's SEC matchup between Mississippi State and Vanderbilt in the College Baseball World Series?
RE: Vanderbilt should win this game as a heavy favorite based on superior pitching. The top play in this one could be the "under" nine on the total line with both teams boasting strong bullpens.
Doc's: Along those same lines for sports betting options that may not be at the top of everyone's list, can the US Women's National Soccer Team go on to win the World Cup as the top favorite on the board at +180 odds?
RE: They find themselves in a very interesting position heading into Wednesday's final group match against Sweden. If they win that game as heavy favorites, they would play France (as +330 second-favorites) in their first knockout round game. If they lose, the would probably have an easier path to the championship match. Either way, my lean is that the US women do go on to win it all.
Doc's: This Saturday's UFC Fight Night card on ESPN+ features a featherweight battle between Renato Moicano and the Korean Zombie Chan Sung Jung. Do you have any thoughts on how to bet this fight?
RE: The Korean Zombie is a +170 underdog for this fight, but being a fan favorite, I see that number going down below +150 by fight time. This guy is a live dog and more than capable of winning this fight, so now is the time to bet him to get the best value.
