Every Tuesday, Doc's has the chance to chat with Raphael to cover the hottest trending betting topics in the world of sports.
Doc's: The NFL Divisional Round playoffs went pretty much as planned with the favorites going 4-0 straight-up and 3-1 against the spread. Did the betting public follow suit with the way it bet each of the four games?
RE: The books got off to great start last weekend with all the public's money going towards Indianapolis. Things balanced out over the next three games, but the Eagles vs. Saints game staying "under" broke up quite a few parlays with New England covering earlier in the day.
Doc's: Each of the conference championships are rematches from the regular season that both turned into shootouts on the scoreboard. Do you see the same results this time around to set up a pair of easy plays betting the "over" on the total line?
RE: I am actually leaning the other way in each game. I would look for a heavy dose of the running game by Los Angeles and New Orleans in the NFC Championship. Weather is shaping up to be a factor in the New England at Kansas City AFC title game, which could keep scoring lower than expected.
Doc's: The entire Pac-12 is mysteriously absent from both national polls heading into this week's college basketball action. Is there any team in that conference that can still make a strong run into the rankings over the next few weeks?
RE: The loss of Oregon's Bol Bol took the Ducks out of the running, and slow starts by Arizona State and Arizona have hurt the top three programs in the Pac-12. I would still look for a late run by the Sun Devils and possibly even the Wildcats as the conference's best two chances to crack the national rankings.
Doc's: Last week you mentioned that the UFC has teamed up with ESPN for its Fight Night presentations. Any thoughts on how to bet this Saturday's world flyweight title fight between Henry Cejudo and TJ Dillashaw?
RE: ESPN, along with ESPN+, has put a great card together for its UFC Fight Night debut. The featured fight between Cejudo and Dillashaw should be an all-out brawl with quite a bit of money coming in on the under 4.5 in this five-round contest.
Doc's: We also know that you are a big boxing fan. Is there any reason to pay attention to this Saturday's bout on Showtime Pay Per View between the 40-year old Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Broner?
RE: This may be pure speculation, but if Pacquiao does win this fight with any kind of authority, you can never rule out another big money bout against Floyd 'Big Money' Mayweather down the road if the interest is there.
