Weekly Q&A with Doc's Sports Expert Handicapper Raphael Esparza
Tuesday marks the start of the MLB World Series and the new NBA season. Along with the NFL and NHL games, Doc's Sports Service has a wide assortment of weekly and monthly selection packages for every major sport. Expert handicapper Raphael Esparza has been a prized member of the team at Doc's going all the way back to his days as the Director of the Race and Sports Book for MGM Resorts' Aria. This was part of a long and successful career in the Las Vegas Sportsbook industry that came to a close in 2013.
The former Vegas Sports Informer has shifted all of his energy to running a successful sports investment business from his home base in Las Vegas as well as from the Big Easy in New Orleans. He offers one of widest arrays of selection packages in the industry as part of his constant quest to find betting options that are not on the betting public's radar.
Every Tuesday, Doc's gets the unique opportunity to gain some valuable insight into the hottest trending topics in the world of sports in a one-on-one interview with Raphael.
Doc's: The hottest MLB playoff team faces the best team in baseball in this year's best-of-seven World Series. If you were betting a MLB prop for the length of this series, how many games are you going with?
RE: I see this series going six games, with the Astros winning. I like the way Washington is lining up its starting rotation , but Houston's edge in pitching will prove to be the difference later in the series.
Doc's: The San Francisco 49ers are making believers out of quite a few NFL bettors at 6-0 straight-up and 4-2 against the spread. Where do they rank on your list of the best NFC teams?
RE: My NFC rankings have New Orleans first followed by Green Bay and then Minnesota. The 49ers could make a case for that third spot as well at 6-0, but they have yet to really impress me given the weak early-season schedule.
Doc's: A big matchup for Week 9 in college football this Saturday pits No. 13 Wisconsin against No. 3 Ohio State in a possible preview of this season Big Ten Championship. The Buckeyes are favored by 14 points at home , so can the Badgers keep this game closer than the two-touchdown spread?
RE: There is no excuse for Wisconsin's 24-23 loss last Saturday to Illinois as a heavy 29.5-point road favorite. I think the Buckeyes are going to roll over the Badgers this Saturday to easily cover the two-touchdown spread.
Doc's: Of all the NBA season openers on this week's schedule, which game is at the top of your list as "must see" TV?
RE: I am interested to see how the Dallas Mavericks look as a possible sleeper team in the Western Conference. As far as the games, ESPN's doubleheader on Wednesday features two great division matchups; Boston on the road against Philadelphia in the Atlantic and Denver on the road against Portland in the Northwest.
Doc's: It does not get any busier than this when it comes to sports betting for all four US major professional leagues. Could there possibly be anything else on your sports betting radar right now as part of a very diverse sports betting portfolio?
RE: You have the MLS playoffs on the board as well as soccer in the Premier League and the Champions League. If you looking for a great boxing match to bet on this Saturday, take Josh Taylor as a +140 live dog against Regis Prograis in a WBA/IBF junior welterweight unification bout in London.
