This Week in Sports Betting, A-Z
A. Antetokoumpo, Giannis
. When the Celtics won Game 1 in Milwaukee, no one could have imagined that
they would be the first conference semifinalist eliminated from the
playoffs. But then the Greek Freak happened, and the rest is history. The
Bucks took each of the next four contests, ousting Boston with a 116-91
romp on Wednesday. Antetokounmpo went for 20 points, eight rebounds, eight
assists, two steals, and two blocks in just 31 minutes of action.
B. Boston Bruins
. Boston's basketball team may be done, but things are going swimmingly on
the ice. The Bruins followed up their seven-game series against Toronto by
beating Columbus in six. Now they are set for an Eastern Conference final
showdown against Carolina.
Boston is a -150 home favorite
in Game 1 on Thursday, per MyBookie.ag.
C. Chicago Cubs
. And just like that, the Cubs-who started the season 1-6-are leading the
loaded National League Central. Chicago (21-13) is 20-7 in its last 27
overall while the Cardinals are 1-6 in their last seven games (including
0-3 against the Cubs).
Bovada Sportsbook
has the Cubs at +1000 to win the World Series.
D. Dallas Keuchel
. Keuchel, still a free agent along with Craig Kimbrel, has insisted that
he will not sign for less than his perceived market value. "When people
tweet at me, saying, 'Hey, quit being the Le'Veon Bell of baseball,' it is
a funny line," the southpaw said. "But he stood up for himself. He stood up
for his well-being." Yeah, he did…and now he has to play for the New York
Jets! So, emulate Bell at your own peril!
E. Embiid, Joel
. The Celtics are out and the 76ers may not be too far behind. Like Boston,
Philadelphia started strong (2-1 series lead) only to see things go
downhill fast. Embiid appears to be both sick and injured, as he is
averaging 12.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg during a current two-game losing streak.
Philadelphia is +2 home underdog
in Game 6 on Thursday, according to BetOnline Sportsbook.
F. Federer, Roger
. For the first time since 2016, Federer has taken his talents to clay. The
37-year-old Swiss is currently competing at the Madrid Masters and he is
scheduled to play the French Open for the first time since 2015 later this
month.
G. Game 7
. There have already been a record-setting three Game 7 overtimes during
these Stanley Cup playoffs. The third saw St. Louis outlast the Stars 2-1
in double-overtime on Tuesday. Dallas had a chance to close out the series
at home but lost Game 6 by a 4-1 margin prior to its heartbreak two days
later.
H. Hurricanes
. And then there were four: Boston, Carolina, St. Louis, and San Jose. The
Hurricanes followed up a seven-game series against Washington by sweeping
the Islanders. New York scored a grand total of five goals in the four
games.
YouWager.eu
has Carolina as a +155 underdog to win the series against Boston.
I.
Indianapolis Colts
. ESPN just released its first 2019 NFL power rankings, and none other than
Indianapolis is No. 5. It would be nice if the Colts actually turn out to
be that good, as that means more tweets and more notoriety for the Captain
Andrew Luck account on Twitter.
J. James Harden
. Harden may be averaging 36.7 ppg over the past three games against Golden
State, but suddenly he is not the talk of the series-not even close. Kevin
Durant suffered a non-contact leg injury on Wednesday, but the Warriors
still managed to survive Game 5 104-99.
K. Kentucky Derby
. And you thought replays in the four major American sports were bad…. It
took 22 minutes-20 more than the actual race-to determine the Kentucky
Derby champion last Saturday. Apparent champion Maximum Security was
disqualified for impeding other horses around the final turn. This the
victory went to initial second-place finisher Country House. Stay in your
lane!
L. Lucas Moura
. Ajax led Tottenham 3-0 on aggregate at halftime of Wednesday's second
Champions League semifinal leg. In a positively stunning comeback, Moura
scored all three of the Spurs' goals-finding the back of the net in the 55 th minute, the 59th minute, and the final minute of
stoppage time. His club advanced on the away-goals tiebreaker following a
3-3 draw.
M. Met Gala
. Serena Williams was out there looking like scrambled eggs and ham on
Monday night, and that probably wasn't even the most outrageous of outfits.
Odell Beckham's kilt tuxedo was also among those in the running for such
distinction.
N. Noah Syndergaard
. How's this for a decent game? Last Thursday, Syndergaard tossed a
complete-game shutout and provided for the only run of the game with a solo
homer as the Mets beat Cincinnati 1-0.
O. Overtimes
. Not one, not two two, not three…. No, Game 4 of Blazers vs. Nuggets went
to four overtimes. The Blazers survived it 140-137 at home for a 2-1 series
lead, but it has only been downhill since and Denver now owns a 3-2
advantage. 5Dimes Sportsbook has
Portland as a -4 home favorite in Game 6 on Thursday.
P. Pierre-Paul, Jason
. The Buccaneers' veteran defensive end suffered a neck injury in a car
wreck earlier this week and may miss the entire season. Get well soon, JPP.
GT Bets
has the Bucs as -1 home favorites over San Francisco in Week 1.
Q. Quail Hollow
. The Charlotte-based course is often Rory McIlroy's stomping grounds, but
McIlroy's struggles and Tiger Woods' absence opened the door for other
competitors. Someone named Max Homa was the one who capitalized, bagging
his first PGA Tour win and raising his 2019 earnings from $370,000 to $1.8
million.
R. Russell, D'Angelo
. Channeling his inner Michael Vick, Russell last week tried to smuggle
marijuana through security at LaGuardia Airport in an Arizona Iced Tea can.
Seriously? Seriously?!?!
S. San Jose Sharks
. One Game 7 wasn't enough for the Sharks. After scraping past Vegas in
shocking fashion, San Jose survived a tamer decider against Colorado on
Wednesday night with a 3-2 victory.
T.
Triple Crown
. The Preakness Stakes without Country House and Maximum Security is going
to be like golf was without Tiger. Well, that's a bit of stretch; golf was
still pretty darn good without him. But no Triple Crown chance means the
average viewer is going to tune out. Code of Honor is a +250 favorite at XBet.ag
to win the Preakness.
U. Urena, Jose
. The Marlins' righty hit Braves' star Ronald Acuna one at-bat after Acuna
took him deep. That happened in 2018…but Atlanta isn't about to let it go.
Kevin Gausman threw behind Urena in the pitcher's first plate
appearance and promptly got ejected-and suspended five games.
The Braves (Soroka) are -120 favorites
at Arizona (Weaver) on Thursday night, as indicated by Bovada Sportsbook.
V. Vincent Kompany
. Did the craziest three-day stretch in soccer history just take place?
Maybe so. Kompany played his part by striking a laser from outside the box
into the back of the net in the 70th minute to lead Manchester
City past Leicester City. That kept the Sky Blues one point ahead of
Liverpool atop the English Premier League table with one match for each
club remaining on Sunday. Man City is -1000 at
BetOnline Sportsbook
to get the job done this weekend for the Premier League title.
W. Woods, Tiger
. Tiger may not orchestrate world peace or cure cancer…. But who cares? He
won the Masters-again! As such, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of
Freedom at the White House on Monday. And, hey, the newest Royal Baby
hasn't done anything other than breathe or cry and it's already seventh in
line for the throne of England. MyBookie.ag has
Tiger as a +750 favorite to win the PGA Championship later this month.
X. Xavi Hernandez
. The former Barcelona midfielder officially announced his retirement from
soccer last week following a 21-year career. In other words, he wasn't on
the pitch for one of the biggest disasters in Barcelona history….
Y. You Never Walk Alone
. Liverpool's theme song was belted out loudly and proudly at Anfield
following a most improbable Champions League semifinal triumph on Tuesday.
The Reds trailed Barcelona 3-0 following one leg but pulled off a 4-0
stunner to prevail -4-0 on aggregate at the expense of Lionel Messi and
company. Perhaps most notably, the result led Steve Kerr two drop two
f-bombs live on national television (TNT just did NOT care) following
Golden State's Game 5 victory on Wednesday. BookMaker has
Liverpool as a -220 favorite to lift the trophy.
Z. Zero
. That's how many hit the Reds got on Tuesday against Oakland right-hander
Mike Fiers. Yes, Fiers fired the second no-hitter of his career as the A's
took care of Cincinnati 2-0. He walked two batters and struck out six while
throwing 131 pitches.
