This Week in Sports Betting, A-Z
A. Archer, Chris
. Archer's first full season with the Pirates has not gone according to
plan so far. The right-hander is 1-2 with a 4.33 ERA through five starts,
and he went on the injured list last weekend with thumb inflammation on his
pitching hand.
B. Bellinger, Cody
. If Bellinger and Christian Yelich crossed paths right now, it would be
like the Spiderman pointing at Spiderman meme. Yes, there is someone just
as on fire as Yelich, and it's Bellinger. The Dodgers' 23-year-old first
baseman is batting .425 with 14 home runs and 38 RBIs. If the season ended
now, he would win the Triple Crown in the National League.
GT Bets
has L.A. as a +270 favorite to win the NL Pennant.
C. C.C. Sabathia
. Sabathia became the 17th pitcher in MLB history to record
3,000 strikeouts when he mowed down five batters in the Yankees' 3-1 loss
at Arizona on Tuesday. The 38-year-old is almost certainly headed for the
Hall of Fame. Well, since it's now the Hall of Pretty Good, he's an
absolute lock.
D. Durant, Kevin
. At the moment, Durant is to Arya Stark as James Harden is to The Night
King. Golden State's star forward had scored at least 33 points in five
straight games prior to Tuesday's 29-point performance in a win over
Houston. He still went 3-for-6 from deep and also added five rebounds, four
assists, two blocks, and one steal. The Warriors are -700 favorites at
Bovada Sportsbook
to win the series.
E. ESPN
. The days of the "Booger Mobile" on Monday Night Football are over. Booger
McFarland is getting an upgrade (well, some viewers might consider it a downgrade from his mobile sideline chair) to the booth, ESPN
announced earlier this week. The MNF crew is now McFarland, Joe Tessitore,
and Lisa Salters.
F. F-minus
. Speaking of ESPN, first-month grades for every MLB team were handed out
earlier this week. Currently at 14-17, defending champion Boston earned a
F-minus. That's right; a F-minus. Nonetheless, right fielder Mookie Betts
is +500 at
BetOnline Sportsbook
to win AL MVP.
G. Giants
. New York sports fans haven't been this enraged about a draft pick since
the Knicks selected Kristaps Porzingis. Now they can only hope Daniel Jones
delivers the number of titles that Eli Manning did and not the amount
accrued by Porzingis.
H. Harrington, Scott
. Harrington has four assists in the last five games for the red-hot Blue
Jackets, but being on the receiving end of a cheap shot by Boston's Brad
Marchand in Game 3 is the reason why he is in the in headlines. Marchand,
though, did not get suspended for 4.
Columbus is a -125 home favorite
on Thursday, per MyBookie.ag.
I.
Indians
. If you thought nothing bad could happen against the Marlins, think again.
Corey Kluber fractured his pitching arm after getting hit by a line off the
bat of Miami's Brian Anderson on Wednesday. Adding insult to injury,
Cleveland actually lost the game 4-2.
J. Jokic, Nikola
. Denver's big man has done a little bit of everything through two games
against the Blazers. He scored 37 points in Game 1, dished out an assist
through Al-Farouq Aminu's legs on Wednesday, and instigated a fracas that
resulted in technical fouls on Jamal Murray and Enes Kanter.
K. Khris Middleton
. Not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, not six…. No, Middleton
drained seven threes on Tuesday as the Bucks answered a Game 1
defeat by hammering Boston 123-102. 5Dimes Sportsbook has
Milwaukee as a +2 road underdog in Game 3 on Friday.
L. Logan Couture
. San Jose escaped Vegas in miracle, controversial fashion and now leads
Colorado 2-1 in a second-round series. Couture delivered a hat-trick in
Tuesday's 4-2 road win over the Avalanche.
YouWager.eu
has the Sharks at -300 to win the series.
M. Manchester United
. While a couple of English Premier League foes are battling in the
Champions League semifinals and arch rival Manchester City sits atop the
EPL table, Man United is struggling to finish in the top four. Man U is
0-2-1 in its last three matches and finds itself three points behind
Chelsea for an all-important top-four spot.
N. Nadal, Rafael
. After two tournaments during the current clay-court swing, Nadal has zero
titles. The second-ranked Spaniard lost to Fabio Fognini in the Monte-Carlo
semifinals and then fell at the same stage last week in Barcelona to
Dominic Thiem. Roland Garros begins in a little more than three weeks. Can
Nadal get back on track in time for title No. 12 in Paris?
O. Omaha Beach
. Just about 72 hours prior to the Kentucky Derby, Omaha Beach was
scratched on Wednesday because of a breathing problem. He had been the
betting favorite. Game Winner is now a +520 favorite at BookMaker.
P. Patrick Maroon
. The Blues' forward scored with 1:38 left in regulation to give his team a
4-3 victory at Dallas in Game 3. However, St. Louis lost 4-2 on Wednesday
as the Stars evened the Western Conference semifinal series at 2-2.
Q. Questions
. As usual, there are more questions than answers surrounding Sean Miller
at Arizona. Now he is being accused by a former assistant of paying former
star DeAndre Ayton $10,000 per month. Miller seemingly has at least nine
lives, but will he ultimately suffer the same fate as the cat in Christmas Vacation? That's one of the questions.
R. Rosen, Josh
. In the end, it may not work out too bad for Rosen, who got dealt from the
Cardinals to the Dolphins on day two of the NFL Draft. He gets to live in
Miami instead of Phoenix, and in a decade or so his division may not
include Tom Brady.
S. Sixers
. Is it Jimmy Butler or James Butler? Who cares? Nobody knows Post
Malone's real name, and things are working out pretty well for him. Butler
went for 30 points and 10 rebounds on Monday as the 76ers tied up their
series with Toronto by prevailing 94-89.
Philadelphia is a +1.5 home underdog
in Game 3 on Thursday, according to Bovada Sportsbook.
T.
Teuvo Teravainen
. The Hurricanes have won seven of their last eight games since losing the
first two of their opening-round series against Washington. They are
suddenly one win away from the Eastern Conference Finals, having taken a
3-0 lead over the Islanders with Wednesday's 5-2 victory. Teravainen scored
twice, giving him five goals in the past seven contests.
U. UEFA Champions League
. Liverpool's English Premier League chances may be slipping away at the
hands of Manchester City, and its Champions League hopes are now as good as
gone. That's often what happens when you run into Lionel Messi, and it got
messy for the Reds in leg one of their semifinal showdown on Wednesday.
Messi scored two late goals as FC Barcelona dominated 3-0. In the opening
leg of the other semifinal, Ajax edged Tottenham Hotspur 1-0.
V. Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Vladimir Guerrero's son being in the major leagues means one thing and one
thing only: we are all old. So far it hasn't meant success for the
Blue Jays. They are 14-16 and VGJ is batting .167 with no RBIs and no runs
scored through five games.
Toronto (Sanchez) is a +132 underdog
at the Angels (Skaggs) on Thursday, as indicated by BetOnline Sportsbook.
W. Woods, Tiger
. Tiger is skipping this week's Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte.
Well, that's another off week for legendary Twitter account GC Tiger
Tracker-and for basically all other golf fans. On the bright side, the PGA
Championship is coming up later this month. MyBookie.ag has
Tiger at +150 to win at least one more major in 2019.
X. X-Men
. Avengers: Endgame isn't necessarily the end. There is wide
speculation that the Marvel Comic Universe will eventually include the
X-Men and/or the Fantastic Four. Meanwhile, XBet.ag
has Tyler Hoechlin as a +125 favorite to be the next Spiderman in any DC
Comics movie.
Y. Yadier Molina
. The Cardinals are the best team in baseball at 20-10, and they are in the
midst of a five-game winning streak. Molina, who seems to have been in the
league as long as Bernie Sanders has been in politics, has hit safely in 17
of his last 18 games and has driven in 21 runs this season.
Z. Zurich Classic
. Why is there a two-man team event on the PGA Tour in the middle of the
season? Can you imagine for one week in June every MLB pairing with another
team to play against two other teams? Nope? Yeah, same. Whatever the case,
Jon Rahm and Ryan Palmer won last week's Zurich Classic of New Orleans by
three strokes over Sergio Garcia and Tommy Fleetwood.
