NFL Survivor Pools Expert Advice and Predictions for Week 3
I don't want to be unkind, but the first two weeks of NFL survivor pools action have been as easy as they can possibly be, and if you have been eliminated so far then you need to find a new hobby. The picks have been incredibly obvious both weeks and have required approximately 12 seconds combined to make the picks. And this week should take even less time. There is no decision to make. Just take the obvious team and live to fight another week.

Dallas vs. Miami: If this isn't the pick you make this week, then you just don't understand survivor pools. This is the easiest and most obvious game that I can ever imagine seeing. It doesn't get any more straightforward. Dallas is 2-0 and has proven in that time that they are capable of getting up and playing well against outmatched teams. They have played the Giants and Washington so far, so, combined with Miami, they have the easiest path to 3-0 that any team could have. But they have not been complacent or sloppy. They have taken care of business. Ezekiel Elliott is playing well after his contract impasse, and they are mostly getting the level of play that they need to get. There are some small causes for concern when they make it to the part of their schedule where they actually play NFL teams, but nothing that will be an issue here.
And then there is Miami. Their opening performance against the Ravens was the most pathetic showing I remember seeing from an NFL team in a very long time. Their game last weekend against New England was even worse. It turns out that trading away your good players days from the start of the season and playing games with your lousy quarterbacks is not a good way to get a team ready for the season. They have allowed 102 points in their two games to date. They haven't scored in their last six quarters. Their new coach might not make it through September at this rate. And the most ridiculous thing is that they don't seem to have a plan to get out of this mess. They blew everything up but honestly seem to be surprised that all that is left is carnage. What a mess. Anything can happen in the NFL, as the Lions showed last week by beating the Chargers. But there just isn't a scenario in which the Dolphins rise up, shake off their funk, and win this one. You need pride for that, and this team clearly has none.
Dallas is going to win. Period. They are three-touchdown favorites . In the NFL. That doesn't happen. Just make the pick and move on.
New England vs. New York Jets: The only reason you wouldn't pick the Cowboys now is if you have picked them already. Not likely, but possible. The next most obvious pick would be this one - though if you were paying attention at all, then you already picked New England last week. But if you can still make this pick, and you aren't picking Dallas, then this is the way to go. The Pats are favored by 23. They have looked extremely scary so far, absolutely crushing the life out of two opponents. One was Miami, so it doesn't count, but the other was Pittsburgh, and they couldn't do anything against New England. The Jets have some obvious issues - from QB on out - and they are coming off a short week. The Jets don't beat New England when they are at full strength, so they aren't going to beat them here. New England is an exceptionally comfortable pick for the second week in a row.
Green Bay vs. Denver: If you aren't picking either Dallas or New England, then you are either exceptionally stubborn or you don't have those options available. If it's the former, then give your head a shake and pick one of those two. But of the rest of the games, this is probably your best bet. I still struggle to trust the Packers entirely, but they have won both of their games and are playing well - especially on defense so far. Denver, meanwhile, has lost both of their games. They are defensively sound as expected, but they shoot themselves in their feet repetitively with their quarterback play and their offense in general. This isn't going to be a shootout, likely, but it is reasonably tough to imagine the Packers losing this one at home. You could certainly do worse than this pick. Other games that feel possible are the surprisingly tough Bills over the hapless Bengals or the 49ers over the reeling Steelers, who now have to make a QB change. But just pick the Cowboys.
