NCAA Football Betting Odds: Week 14 Line Movements & Last-Minute News
I've watched plenty of football games in my lifetime, and I've seen some of the dumbest and most absurd plays there are to see. Yet, despite all that, nothing comes close to what I witnessed last night in the Mississippi/Mississippi State game. I mean, who in their right mind thinks of "pissing on the ball like a dog" during their touchdown celebration? Come on, Elijah Moore. You have to be better than that. Imagine if Ole Miss needed the win to get to six wins and earn bowl eligibility? What would the backlash be for this kid who acted selfishly instead of as part of a team? Thankfully, we'll never know as the Rebels season is over, but I feel for those who had backed Ole Miss and were robbed a chance to cover or win the game outright in overtime.
Here are notes for some of Saturday's games around the country, in no particular order.
No. 7 Oklahoma Sooners @ No. 21 Oklahoma State Cowboys (+12, 68.5 ): It's "Rivalry Week" in college football, and one of my all-time favorite contests is "Bedlam " between the Sooners and Cowboys . After losing to Kansas State, the Sooners have reeled off three straight wins and now must win this game and capture the Big 12 title in order to have a shot at the CFP (with some help). This game opened up with the Sooners laying -14.5m but the sharps jumped all over the Cowboys at that number and have bet it down to +12 . The Cowboys come into this game winners of four-straight, having just snuck by West Virginia last week despite not playing very well. Running back Chuba Hubbard continues to have a breakout season as he has now rushed for more than 100 yards in all but one game this season. He leads the FBS in rushing. And if it wasn't for Joe Burrow, Hubbard might have gotten some serious Heisman consideration. As for the total, we all expect points in this game, and we will get them. The total opened up at 73.5, which was a tad too high for bettors as it has been bet down to 68.5.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons @ Syracuse Orange (+3.5, 69): It's been a rather long and dreadful season for the Syracuse Orange as they have lost five of their last six games to bring their record to 4-7. They've been dealt several blows to their roster through injury, and their defense hasn't taken a liking to try to stop the run as they've given up 988 yards on the ground in the last three games alone. That's beyond bad. Now they have to face a Wake Forest team with plenty to play for. And despite that, this spread is closing in favor of the Orange. The oddsmakers opened this game with Wake laying six points, but it's been bet down to just 3.5, and we aren't quite sure why. The Demon Deacons aren't dealing with any major injuries, while the Orange will be without several key offensive players. The total for this game opened up 65. And because of how porous the Orange's defense has been, that number shot up to 69. Wake could put up 50 on their own and we wouldn't be entirely shocked.
North Carolina Tar Heels @ North Carolina State Wolfpack (+10, 56): We are sticking with another ACC game for this section as this game is vitally important for the Tar Heels as they seek their sixth win, which would make them bowl eligible for the first time in three years. If they get there, they would be hoping to end an 0-3 run they are currently on. Standing in their way is their in-state rivals and a North Carolina State team that has been brutal of late, losing five straight games all while giving up at least 28 points. This game opened up with the Tar Heels laying 6.5 points on the road, but that number has risen to -10, and with good reason. The Tar Heels have everything to play for and are relatively healthy coming into this game. As for the total, it opened up at 53.5 but has since been bet up to where it stands now, and that's 56 points. We could see this game going either way from a total perspective.
Fresno State Bulldogs @ San Jose State Spartans (+2.5, 64.5): And last but not least, we head to the Mountain West Conference where Fresno State takes on San Jose State in a battle of 4-7 teams. Now, this game won't exactly make front-page headlines of the newspaper or whatever website you read, but the point spread has jumped the fence, and that has my interest piqued. This game opened up with the Spartans laying two points on their home field before bettors got a hold of that number and bet the spread all the way to where it sits now: Fresno -2.5. Both of these teams are riding three-game losing streaks, so neither has momentum. Fresno State is also dealing with a few injury issues, which is why this move has surprised me. The total hasn't moved much, but it's down from an opening of 66 to 64.5. And with the way these two teams play defense, that may be going the wrong way.
