Giants vs. Eagles Monday Night Football Picks Week 14
Finally got a NFL spread pick right on a Monday night game as we recommended the Seattle Seahawks giving 2.5 points against the visiting Minnesota Vikings to conclude Week 13, and Russell Wilson continued his amazing run of prime-time success with a 37-30 victory. Tale of two halves as the Vikings were up 17-10 at the break and then allowed 24 straight points before making things interesting late. Pretty shocked there were 67 points scored between two run-heavy clubs with two very good defenses; I liked the under 49.
This Monday, I can't really say much positive about an ugly New York Giants (2-10) at Philadelphia Eagles (5-7) matchup . Could be worse, I suppose, maybe Giants-Jets or Giants-Redskins.
Obviously, New York is just playing out the string and it's assumed that Pat Shurmur will be fired at the end of this horrible season. Now that Carolina has fired Ron Rivera, I'd put him at the top of the list as possible replacements considering his past with current Giants GM Dave Gettleman (if he survives this year) from his days at Carolina.
Coach Doug Pederson won the first-ever Super Bowl for the Eagles just two seasons ago, but his seat is getting a bit warm with the team vastly underachieving. I think he's safe, but stranger things have happened. The Eagles still could make the playoffs because they are just a game behind the Cowboys (6-6) in the NFC East and Dallas could easily lose Thursday night in Chicago. The Cowboys are -220 to win the division and Eagles +175.
Giants at Eagles Betting Story Lines
New York lost its eighth game in a row Sunday, 31-13 at home in the snow to Green Bay. It's the longest skid for Big Blue since 2004. That was Tom Coughlin's first season as coach; New York went 11-5 the next year to start a four-year playoff run that included a Super Bowl title.
Whomever the Giants hire next will need to be either a quarterback whisperer or said head coach will need to hire an offensive coordinator who is one. Rookie Daniel Jones has some talent, but he is a turnover-machine. Jones is the future, though, so the team will do whatever it takes to put him in a position to succeed. The No. 6 overall pick out of Duke threw three picks against the Packers, who turned them into 10 points. Jones tweaked an ankle during the game but is fine.
One bright spot of that loss was New York slipped into last in the NFC East - i.e. a potential last-place schedule next year - and is now only one game "ahead" of Cincinnati for the potential No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. I guarantee you that New York would take Ohio State pass-rusher Chase Young there. The Giants have allowed at least 30 point seven times this year.
It's understandable that the Eagles lost a close game at home in Week 11 to New England and the same in Week 12 to Seattle, but it's inexcusable to lose 37-31 at a bad Dolphins team on Sunday, blowing a 28-14 third-quarter lead in the process. Miami's points and yards (409) were season highs. Ryan Fitzpatrick looked like Dan Marino with 365 yards and three scores. The Eagles were simply outcoached - see how baffled they were on a beautiful trick play by Miami that led to a touchdown.
Pederson said he was "disgusted" and "angry" and put the blame on himself, admitting the Dolphins played harder. The Philly secondary has been a problem all year - why the Eagles were trying to trade for Jalen Ramsey - and Miami's DeVante Parker (seven catches for 159 yards and two scores) became the eighth wideout to eclipse the 100-yard mark against the Eagles this year. They are now 0-7 in games in which they trailed in the fourth quarter in 2019.
Giants at Eagles Betting Odds and Trends
At 5Dimes, Philadelphia is a 10-point favorite (+115) with a total of 47. On the moneyline, the Eagles are -395 and Giants +323. On the alternate lines, Philly is -9.5 (+100), -9 (-105), -8.5 (-110), -8 (-115) and -7.5 (-120). New York is 3-3 against the spread on the road and 5-1 "over/under." Philadelphia is 2-4 ATS at home and 2-4 O/U.
The Giants have covered 10 of their past 13 on the road overall. They are 5-2 ATS in their past seven following a double-digit home loss. The Eagles are 7-3 ATS in their past 10 on Monday. They are 2-5 ATS in their previous seven vs. the NFC East. The over is 4-1 in New York's past five vs. the NFC East. The under is 5-1 in the Eagles' past six vs. teams with a losing record. The over is 6-1 in the previous seven meetings.
Giants at Eagles Betting Prediction
Be helpful if I knew whether three key Giants who missed at least last week, receiver Golden Tate, tight end Evan Engram and safety Jabrill Peppers, were going to play. Philly has been without running back Jordan Howard the past three games, but rookie Miles Sanders has been quite good in his spot.
It's the first meeting of the season, with the Eagles going to New Jersey in Week 17. Not sure the Eagles deserve to be double-digit favorites over anyone right now. But we think they win by 10, something like 31-21. We'll give the 7.5-point alternate line to be safe and go over the total.
