Free NBA Picks Tuesday, December 17 and Opening Line Report

We've got six games for Tuesday's slate. All but one game is an east vs. west game. On the spread, I have the East taking home the crown. The Pacers should stay in their game against the Lakers at home, while I project the Hornets and Nets to also take wins against the spread.

Kings @ Hornets (+4.5, 207.5)

Are the Kings finally hitting their peak? They're 12-14 this season but have won four of their last five games against quality teams such as the Mavericks and Rockets. The Hornets saw a three-game winning streak snapped after getting dominated by the Pacers, 107-85. Another classic west vs. east game. Going from Golden State to Charlotte can't be fun for the Kings. Take the Hornets and the under.

Key trends: Hornets are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Tuesday games.

Early lean: Hornets, Under

Lakers @ Pacers (TBD, TBD)

The Lakers are unstoppable. They're now 24-3 on the year and four of their last five games have been on the road. The Lakers have been keeping games close recently with three single digit wins in their three most recent games. The Pacers are 7-3 in their last ten and at home, I'd expect them to at least cover.

Key trends: The Pacers are 15-11 (57.7%) against the spread this season.

Early lean: Pacers, Over

Hawks @ Knicks (-1,220.5)

We have a couple teams battling at 6-21. The Knicks, under new head coach Mike Miller, have gone 2-3 in their last five games, with two losses coming in the final seconds. The Knicks will be welcomed home in the Garden and should be able to scrape this one out. Shooters like Trae Young have a history with putting daggers through New York hearts. Not this one, Trae.

Key trends: Knicks are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games playing on 1 days' rest.

Early lean: Knicks, Over

Nets @ Pelicans (+1, 230.5)

The Nets are for real. Spencer Dinwiddie is an all-star if I've ever seen one. The Nets have won three of their last five games, and both losses were single-digit losses. Traveling to New Orleans would be difficult if they were playing a good team. Being on the road means a favorable, more valuable spread line for the Nets. The Pelicans are seeing red L's all over their schedule, including their last five.

Key trends: Nets are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game.

Early lean: Nets, Over

Magic @ Jazz (-6.5, 20.7)

The Jazz are coming back to life, winning three of their last five games. However, they've beat teams with poor resumes. The Jazz will welcome another under .500 team to Vivint Smart Home Arena. The Magic have won two of their last three on the road, but Utah has been able to stay home and get comfortable again playing four of their last five at home. I like the Jazz in this one.

Key trends: Jazz are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS loss.

Early lean: Jazz, Under

Suns @ Clippers (TBD, TBD)

The Clippers lost a back-to-back second game to the Bulls after enjoying a solid winning streak. The Suns can't defend well this season. The Clippers will be able to knock in bucket after bucket and defend a whole lot better against the Suns at home. This one will actually hit the under. Take the Clippers for sure.

Key trends: Clippers are 16-12 (57.1%) against the spread this season.
