Free NBA Picks Saturday, December 7 and Opening Line Report

On Saturday, only the diehard basketball fans watch the NBA. I get it. The College Football Conference Championships are on all day, along with your favorite college playing a nonconference basketball game. Anyway, we've got five solid NBA games to get ready for. Wait… just four. The Knicks don't count.

Pelicans @ Mavericks (-7.5, 232.5)

After the Mavs took a tough loss to the Lakers to start December, they've reeled off two wins against the Pelicans and Timberwolves. Now they meet the Pelicans again at home this time. In the previous meeting between the two teams, Luka Doncic scored 33 points with 18 rebounds. You can look for the same to happen in this one. Doncic is on another level this season, averaging more than 30 points per game.

Key trends: The Mavericks are 9-5 (64.3%) as a favorite against the spread this season.

Early lean: Mavericks, Over

Cavaliers @ 76ers (TBD, TBD)

The Cavs are not having a fun time right now. They've lost four straight games and just recently lost to the Pistons at home, 127-94. Things aren't getting any easier for the Cavs with a back-to-back on their schedule. They'll play the Magic before this one and then head on the road for the 76ers straight after. The 76ers just lost to the Wizards. They'll get a day to reflect on this one and come back strong against the Cavs.

Key trends: The Cavs are 8-12-1 (40%) in all games against the spread this season.

Early lean: 76ers, Under

Pacers @ Knicks (+6.5, 209.5)

I don't even know where to start with the Knicks. They've lost by over 80 points in their last three games combined and just fired their coach. It's ugly for the Knicks, and it won't get prettier against the Pacers . The Pacers are 14-7 on the year and will play a second game of a back-to-back with the Knicks after facing the Pistons on the road first. I usually hate taking teams on the second night of a back-to-back, but the Pacers will still get the job done against the Knicks.

Key trends: The Pacers are 9-3-1 (75%) vs teams that win under 45 percent of games against the spread this season.

Early lean: Pacers, Under

Suns @ Rockets (-9.5, 239.5)

The Rockers responded to their loss against the Spurs with a very solid win against the Raptors on the road. I always like taking west teams to beat east teams. That's just how the NBA is built. The west is better. But now the Rockets will have to face the Suns, a Western Conference opponent that just defeated the Pelicans on the road in an OT thriller. The game has over written all over it. The Rockets will also defend home court and become too much to handle for the young Suns.

Key trends: The Rockets are 11-8 (57.9%) vs teams allowing over 102 points per game this season.

Early lean: Rockets, Over

Grizzlies @ Jazz (12.5, 217.5)

Utah is struggling. They're struggling badly. They've lost five of their last six games. But their one win came against the Grizzlies. The Jazz have been getting blown out. You'd think they would be fed up with it by now. At home, against the Grizzlies, who are just 6-15 on the year, the Jazz should finally get back in the win column. Another loss could really dampen the season.

Key trends: The Grizzlies are 8-12 (40%) as an underdog against the spread this season.
