2018 World Cup Group C Expert Betting Picks

Group C in the World Cup Finals is pretty basic. There is France. Then there is a massive gulf. And then there is everyone else.

The French side enters Russia as one of the top five favorites to win the World Cup . Just two cycles removed from a fantastic flame out in the 2010 World Cup, France has completely turned over its roster. And now they are stacked with proven international quality and a generation of players that appears to be hitting its prime together.

It would be a massive upset if France didn't win this group. But just because there is a clear-cut favorite, that doesn't mean that there isn't any drama. Denmark boasts one of the best players in the world. Australia is playing in its fourth straight finals. And Peru is a feel-good story looking to write another chapter.

The 2018 World Cup will take place in Russia from June 14 to July 15. Russia will host this year's quadrennial event, and current 2018 World Cup betting odds and odds to win the World Cup are currently posted at all offshore and Las Vegas sportsbooks.

Here is my 2018 World Cup Group C Preview:

FRANCE

Odds To Win Group C: -350

Odds To Advance: -2000

Odds To Win World Cup: +650

FRANCE Group C Predictions: This team has really been building to this moment over the course of the last four years. It started with a youthful side making a run to the quarterfinals of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Then Les Bleus managed an appearance in the 2016 European Championships, which was held on their home soil. Are they ready to take the next step and earn the nation's second World Cup championship?

There is no real weakness on this team. From a talent standpoint they have top-shelf talent at every level of the field. Antoine Griezmann and Paul Pogba are elite. And the depth and athleticism that this team brings to the World Cup is on par with anything that Germany or Brazil is packing.

The talent is there. Now the French just need to make it pay off.

DENMARK

Odds To Win Group C: +450

Odds To Advance: -160

Odds To Win World Cup: +10000

DENMARK Group C Predictions: Denmark is a very aggressive, attack-oriented squad that features talisman Christian Ericksen. Denmark is kind of a one-trick pony that was one of the final qualifiers in the field, advancing to the finals thanks to a playoff win.

Denmark 's lone advantage is its schedule. They will open with Peru. Since those two teams are the most likely to clamp down on the second-place slot, that game will go a long way in determining the group. They don't have to face France until each team's third match. And if France is already through then Denmark may not take their best effort.

This is a pretty mediocre team. They have a low ceiling, and I think they are ripe to be upset out of this group.

PERU

Odds To Win Group C: +1000

Odds To Advance: +180

Odds To Win World Cup: +20000

Peru Group C Predictions: If you are looking for a potential sleeper in Group C, look no further than Peru. The Peruvian team is back at the World Cup after a 36-year absence and enters the finals with a groundswell of momentum. They have won four straight since March, all by at least two goals, and they have handled teams like Croatia (2-0), Iceland (3-1) and Saudi Arabia (3-0).

Peru also received some stellar news when their captain and leading goal scorer Paolo Guerrero was reinstated after a doping ban set to shut him out of playing in the World Cup. Peru has been playing great without him. But if Guerrero can find his form then it could give this squad the shot in the arm they need to survive this group.

AUSTRALIA

Odds To Win Group C: +1800

Odds To Advance: +350

Odds To Win World Cup: +50000

Australia Group C Predictions: The Socceroos managed to make their fourth straight World Cup thanks to wins in a two-legged playoff against Syria and Honduras. They were so pleased with that result that they sacked their manager and hired Bert van Marwijk in January to take over.

Australia is a gung-ho attacking team that has very little interest in holding the midfield or defending. This can leave them exposed against more talented opponents. You also have to wonder about the mental state of this team after losing the man that coached them into this finals appearance.

The Aussies won games in both the 2006 and 2010 Cups. But they went 0-3 and were outscored by six goals in Brazil in 2014. I don't see this team as much better than that one. But with their experience, this team could be capable of pulling a surprise result.

1. France

2. Peru

3.Denmark

4. Australia
