RE: This move adds some offensive power to one of the top scoring teams in the NL, but question marks remain with the depth of the Dodgers' starting rotation come playoff time. I would still give Los Angeles the slight edge over the Chicago Cubs in that pennant race, but I think either team will be playing for second in a matchup against the best the AL has to offer.

 

Doc's Sports: The big news in the CFL this week was Montreal trading for quarterback Johnny Manziel after he was stuck riding the pines for Hamilton through the first six weeks of the season. What type of impact do you think he can have playing for the worst offense in the league?

 

RE: Montreal's offense has nowhere to go but up after its poor performance in its first five games. At least we will get a chance to see what Manziel can do, which should pump some additional interest and excitement into the entire CFL.

 

Doc's Sports: The top four teams in the betting odds to win this year's College Football Playoff Championship are Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Georgia. If you were going to round out this group with a fifth team, which one would it be from the 'best of the rest'.

 

RE: You could probably make a case for a few teams outside these four, but right now I am going with the Big Ten's Wisconsin Badgers as one of my top teams in the nation this season. The combination of a stingy defense and a power running game has always been a strong recipe for success in college football. The Badgers just need to find a way to get past Ohio State in the conference title game.

 

Doc's Sports: We know that you are a big horse racing fan, especially when it comes to the summer season at Del Mar in Southern California. Switching to the East Coast for this Saturday's $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park in New Jersey, do you have any early betting thoughts on this race?

 

RE: It is still a bit too early to make any hard and fast predictions for this race. Post positions are always a factor, but I really want to get a better handle on the weather at Monmouth for Saturday given all the rain that has been pounding the East Coast this week. The most interesting head-to-head matchup should be Good Magic against Bravazo assuming each three-year old is entered in final field.

 

Doc's Sports: You have gained a reputation for handicapping just about anything you can bet on. A few weeks back you posted your prop bet picks for Justin Bieber's upcoming wedding on Doc's site. Is their anything specific you are working on now in the realm of 'pop culture'?

 

RE: You can expect to see a post on Doc's in early August for the new Halloween movie expected to premier in October. I will also be working on some prop bets for the next season of "Game of Thrones" and "The Walking Dead" in the coming weeks.
