Weekly Q&A with Doc's Sports Expert Handicapper Raphael Esparza
Doc's Sports has earned the reputation for releasing some big-unit winners for all the major sports since we first launched our sports betting selection service back in 1971. Much of our success over all that time can be attributed to a strong working relationship with the top expert sports handicappers in the nation such as Raphael Esparza . He rose to the top of the ranks during a long and successful career in the Las Vegas sportsbook industry that culminated in 2013 as the Director of the Race and Sports Book for MGM Resorts' Aria.
These days, the former Vegas Sports Informer runs his own sports investment service in Las Vegas as well as from the Big Easy in New Orleans. If you are looking for winning picks for all the major sports as well as some for betting events that are a bit off the beaten path, Esparza is your best bet to cash in big. Doc's is thrilled to have the opportunity to get his expert opinion on some of the hottest tending topics in the world of sports betting with a weekly Q&A.
Doc's: The sportsbooks have won big and they have eked out a small gain in each of the first four weeks of the NFL regular season. What is the verdict from your inside sources on how they fared against the betting public in last week's round of games?
RE: This past week was one of the bigger wins for the books this season against the betting public. A number of games went their way, most notably Philadelphia and Green Bay losing straight-up as well as Houston failing to cover on Sunday night. The two games that cut into these winnings a bit were Cincinnati and the Los Angeles Chargers covering with relative ease.
Doc's: The biggest showdown in Week 6 is undefeated Kansas City going on the road as an underdog against the revitalized New England Patriots with a total line approaching 60 points . Can you give us some betting insight into this AFC clash?
RE: I would have to give Kansas City the nod as the best team in the NFL right now with its ability to quickly put points on the board. This is going to be a very interesting matchup from a betting standpoint. The public loves the Chiefs right now, but betting protocol dictates taking the Patriots and the "over" when they play in Foxborough. I am not sure New England will be able to keep pace with Kansas City on Sunday night.
Doc's: The LSU Tigers run to a possible College Football Playoff berth ran into a wall down in Gainesville with last week's road loss to Florida as slight favorites. Can the Tigers put a kink in No. 2 Georgia's postseason plans this Saturday as touchdown underdogs on their home field?
RE: As long as Georgia can follow the same game plan that Florida used to get past LSU, it should come away with the SU win in the road. If the Bulldogs do not bring their A Game on defense, there could be another big upset in the SEC come Saturday afternoon in Baton Rouge.
Doc's: A new season in the NBA gets underway next week, and it is no big surprise that the Golden State Warriors are heavy favorites to win another league title. At this point, is there any value going against Golden State in the futures odds to with the 2019 NBA Championship?
RE: I still think there is some solid value in Houston in a head-to-head matchup against Golden State in the Western Conference as well as with Boston as the best team in the Eastern Conference. Each of those teams were not at full strength in the playoffs last season, which impacted their ability to advance.
Doc's: The Boston Red Sox hold the 2-1 series edge against New York heading into Tuesday's Game 4 of this best-of-five matchup in the ALDS. More than a few MLB experts had the Yankees winning this series as a wild card team, so is there any chance they can still go on to win the next two games?
RE: I had this series going the distance from the start with Boston winning in five games. I am more impressed with how Houston played against Cleveland in a three-game sweep in that ALDS matchup. The Red Sox should advance, but they are going to have their hands full against the Astros.
