Sports Betting Futures Odds: Here Comes March
February has not been a good month for college basketball, what with the
FBI investigation into rampant recruiting violations that has already outed
Arizona head coach Sean Miller. March, however, is foolproof. The sport
will soon take center stage, although this week it will compete with
another big golf tournament and the Academy Awards.

National Championship
Villanova (+450)
- The 2015-16 National Champions are back is business this season behind
Player the Year candidate Jalen Brunson. Villanova started 22-1, but it is
just 3-3 in its last six games with recent losses to St. John's,
Providence, and Creighton. Still, a No. 1 seed looks likely.
Michigan State (+450)
- Death, taxes, and Michigan State making it to the Final Four…. Those are
basically the three certainties of life. But head coach Tom Izzo and
company have been dealing with all kinds of distractions this season.
Through it all, the Spartans are 28-3.
Virginia (+650)
- Virginia's defense, as usual, is by far the best in the nation. The
question is if its offense can score enough points on a consistent basis to
beat some opponents badly-because winning six competitive NCAA Tournament
games in a row would be tough.
Duke (+700)
- Right now it's Virginia (15-1) and then everyone else in the ACC; four
teams are somewhere between 12-5 (Duke) and 10-6. But the Blue Devils are
proven winners when it comes to getting the job done in the NCAA
Tournament, with five titles under head coach Mike Krzyzewski.
MLS Cup
(MyBookie.ag)
Toronto (+300)
- The 2018 Major League Soccer season begins this weekend. Toronto avenged
its 2016 MLS Cup loss to Seattle by getting the job done last year, beating
the Sounders 2-0 for the championship. Led by Jozy Altidore, Toronto was
the best club from start to finish with just five losses in 34
regular-season matches.
Seattle (+650)
- Is a third consecutive Seattle vs. Toronto MLS Cup in the cards? It's
certainly possible, although the Sounders got all they could handle from
Portland in the Western Conference this past season (tied atop the
conference table with 53 points). Seattle striker Jordan Morris is
sidelined by a torn ACL.
Atlanta (+650)
- Atlanta comfortably made the playoffs as an expansion franchise in
2017-and even earned a home match-before losing to Columbus in a shootout.
Jozef Martinez poured in 19 goals (fourth in the league) in just 20 games.
No one else in the top 56 on the goal-scoring list played in so few games.
Portland (+750)
- The Timbers won it all in 2015 before getting surpassed in the Western
Conference by Seattle. They bounced back from missing the playoffs in 2016
by tying Seattle for first in the West last year. Argentine midfielder
Diego Valeri scored 21 goals in 2017, good for third in the league.
WGC-Mexico
Dustin Johnson (+600)
- This tournament moved from Trump National Doral in 2017, and Johnson
wasted no time in triumphing in its debut across the border. He beat Tommy
Fleetwood by one stroke and Jon Rahm by two. The world No. 1 won at Kapalua
earlier this season and finished runner-up at Pebble Beach.
Justin Thomas (+700)
- Thomas passed his good buddy Jordan Spieth in the rankings on Monday
(moved from fourth to third) with his victory at last week's Honda Classic.
The 24-year-old American has finished no worse than 22nd in five
starts during the 2018 campaign. He also placed T5 last season in Mexico,
three shots behind Johnson.
Jordan Spieth (+1200)
- Spieth mounted a serious charge with a Saturday 63 at this Mexico event
in 2017, but he did not do much on Sunday and settled for 12th
place. The 24-year-old American missed a recent cut in Phoenix, but he is
coming off a T20 outing at Pebble Beach and a T9 finish at Riviera.
Jon Rahm (+1200)
- Rahm has not slowed down since his T3 performance last season in Mexico.
The 23-year-old Spaniard is up to No. 2 in the world thanks in part to a
runner-up showing at Kapalua and a title at the CareerBuilder Challenger
during a stellar month of January. Fleetwood and Rickie Fowler are +1600
fifth choices.
Best Picture
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
(-110)
- It looks like a two-horse race for Best Picture at the Academy Awards,
which take place on Sunday. Three Billboards picked up Best
Picture (Drama) honors at the Golden Globe Awards and Frances McDormand won
Best Actress (Drama).
The Shape of Water (+145)
- The Shape of Water was nominated for Best Picture (Drama) at the
Globes along with Three Billboards, Dunkirk, The Post, and Call Me by Your Name. Sally Hawkins was
nominated for Best Actress (Drama). Shape has soared past Dunkirk and other is the odds department of late.
Lady Bird (+1000)
- If one of the two favorites is going to be upset, Lady Bird may
be the film to do it. It won Best Picture (Musical or Comedy) at the Golden
Globes. Saoirse Ronan is a +800 second choice for Best Actress at the
Oscars, and Greta Gerwig is a +1000 third choice for Best Director.
Get Out (+1200)
- Nothing can compete with Get Out on Rotten Tomatoes, as it
currently boasts a 99 percent rating. As for the awards, however, films
such as this one (a horror with some comedic effects) rarely take home the
biggest prizes. Dunkirk is also a +1200 fourth choice.
