Sports Betting Futures Odds: Tua Taking Control of Heisman Trophy Race
Perhaps no odds for anything else in any sport fluctuate as wildly as those
for the Heisman Trophy. But if there is such a thing as taking control of
the race, Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has done that in the early
stages of the season. On the NFL gridiron, meanwhile, Jets rookie QB Sam
Darnold is off to a hot start.

Heisman Trophy
Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama (+333)
- Tua has basically won the Crimson Tide's starting job; now will he win
the Heisman? The sophomore has completed 25 of 35 passes for 455 yards with
seven total touchdowns (six passing, one rushing) and no interceptions.
Jalen Hurts has seen some playing time, but that may end during SEC
competition.
Will Grier (+450)
- It did not take long for West Virginia's quarterback to sling his way
into the Heisman Trophy discussion. Through two games, including a 40-14
shellacking of Tennessee, Grier has thrown for 761 yards with nine
touchdowns and one interception. He is completing 76.7 percent of his
passes for the 2-0 Mountaineers.
Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State (+650)
- Like Grier, Haskins has nine touchdown passes and only one interception
through two outings. And like it or not, Ohio State looks like a formidable
contender. The Buckeyes blasted Oregon State 77-31 and then took care of
Rutgers 52-3. Haskins can make a bigger statement this weekend against TCU.
Trace McSorley (+950)
- With Saquon Barkley having taken his talents to the NFL, McSorley must
take on greater responsibility in the Penn State offense. So far, so good.
The senior signal-caller is 34-of-65 for 374 yards, three TDs, and no INTs
after two games. He has also rushed for three scores for the undefeated
Nittany Lions.
NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year
(MyBookie.ag)
Sam Darnold (+125)
- Darnold wasn't even in the top four before the regular season started.
Then Week 1 happened. His first career NFL pass was picked off and returned
for a touchdown, but Darnold and the Jets bounced back in style en route to
a 48-17 blowout of Detroit. He completed 16 of 21 passes for 198 yards and
two touchdowns.
Saquon Barkley (+150)
- Barkley's excellence in his NFL debut was far less surprising. The No. 2
overall pick out of Penn State rushed 18 times for 106 yards and one
touchdown in the Giants' 20-15 setback against Jacksonville. Barkley also
had two receptions for 22 yards. It was a solid start facing one of the
league's best defenses.
Baker Mayfield (+1000)
- Mayfield will obviously have to start getting some playing time-and a lot
of it-in order to have a chance. The No. 1 overall pick got none in
Cleveland's commendable Week 1 tie against Pittsburgh. But Tyrod Taylor
does not exactly have a stranglehold on the job after he completed only 15
of 40 passes.
Josh Allen (+1500)
- Well, Allen was at least better than Nathan Peterman. That isn't saying a
lot, but still…. Peterman was replaced midway through the third quarter of
a 47-3 loss to Baltimore after throwing for just 24 yards and getting
picked off twice. Allen (6-for-15, 74 yards, 0 TDs, 0 INTs) has been named
the Week 2 starter.
MLS Cup
Atlanta United (+400)
- A recent 3-1 loss to D.C. United and having played one fewer match are
some of the reasons why Atlanta has been overtaken in the Eastern
Conference by the New York Red Bulls. Still, ATLUTD boasts 54 points-one
less than New York and at least five more than every other club in Major
League Soccer.
New York Red Bulls (+400)
- Offensively, no team can keep pace with Atlanta and goal-scoring machine
Josef Martinez (already boasts an MLS single-season record with 28). But
New York's stingy defense had surrendered a grand total of 29 goals (league
low) in 28 matches. The Red Bulls have lost just one of their last seven
overall.
FC Dallas (+800)
- Dallas is sitting pretty in a less formidable Western Conference (New
York City FC is third in the East with 49 points, which would tie it for
first in the West). FCD is one point clear of Sporting Kansas City even
though its goal differential (+10) pales in comparison to K.C. (+16).
Dallas is just 2-3-1 in its last six contests.
New York City FC (+800)
- Don't sleep on the other New York-based squad, as NYCFC is lurking not
far behind the top two in the East. Although this squad has given up 38
goals, it is one of just four in all of the MLS to have exceeded the
half-century mark. New York, however, is slumping to the tune of no wins in
its last five matches.
The TOUR Championship
Justin Rose (+800)
- Rose lost in a playoff at last week's BMW Championship, but a consolation
prize for his runner-up finish is the No. 1 world ranking. The 38-year-old
also goes into the 2018 finale at No. 2 in the FedEx Cup standings behind
Bryson DeChambeau, meaning he controls his own destiny and wins the cup
with a title.
Dustin Johnson (+900)
- Both Rose (runner-up in 2012 and 2015) and Johnson have flirted with a
win at East Lake. The latter took a two-stroke lead into the final round in
2016 and should have easily won the FedEx Cup until he collapsed with a 73
(Rory McIlroy fired a Sunday 64 for both the TOUR Championship and FedEx
Cup wins).
Rory McIlroy (+900)
- McIlroy is back for the first time since his triumph, as he missed this
prestigious event in 2017. The Northern Irishman has to like his chances
next week, and not just because of his confidence at this particular
course. He is in fine form at the moment, with a T12 showing and T5
performance in back-to-back playoff tournaments.
Justin Thomas (+1100)
- Thomas was the best player by a mile through three months of the season.
Brooks Koepka has surpassed him in the Player of the Year race, but Thomas
still controls his own destiny in Atlanta at No. 5 in the FedEx Cup
standings. Tiger Woods is making a highly anticipated return to East Lake
and he is +1200.
