Sports Betting Futures Odds: Justify Eyes Triple Crown at Belmont
As if Justify needed any help, the field for this weekend's Belmont Stakes
has been depleted of late. That means the reigning Kentucky Derby and
Preakness winner is a considerable favorite to complete the Triple Crown.
Speaking of triples, Stephen Curry is making a lot of those in the NBA
Finals and may not be far away from becoming a triple NBA champion.

Belmont Stakes
Justify (-125)
- Justify is a perfect 5-0 in 2018, which obviously includes victories at
the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. He represents trainer Bob
Baffert's fifth shot at a Triple Crown going into the Belmont. The first
three such horses came up short before American Pharoah got the job done in
2015.
Hofburg (+400)
- With Good Magic and Audible out of the race, Hofburg appears to be
Justify's biggest threat to prevent history. Hofburg, who was sired by 2004
Kentucky Derby second favorite Tapit, owns one win this season to go along
with a runner-up performance at the Florida Derby.
Bravazo (+700)
- Bravazo stumbled and bumbled to an eighth-place performance at the
Louisiana Derby and a sixth-place showing at Churchill Downs, but his
bravado is back after a runner-up finish behind Justify at the Preakness
that featured an incredible closing stretch following the final turn.
Vino Rosso (+900)
- Vino Rosso went off at the Kentucky Derby as the ninth favorite, and that
is exactly where he finished. He was sired by Curlin, who placed in the top
three in all three Triple Crown races 11 years ago-including a win at the
Preakness. Vino Rosso is well-rested after skipping the Preakness.
World Cup
Brazil (+450)
- The World Cup begins next Thursday, and not a moment too soon for Brazil
(which kicks off its campaign next Sunday). Neymar and company are eager
for redemption after they got humiliated on home soil in the form of a 7-1
semifinal loss to Germany in 2014 (the Brazilians trailed 5-0 less than 30
minutes into the match).
Germany (+475)
- Brazil, which last triumphed in 2002, is the all-time leader with five
titles. Germany is tied for second with four, and it leads the way in final
appearances (eight). The Germans ended up lifting the trophy last year in
Brazil and remained in stellar form with a victory in the 2017 FIFA
Confederations Cup.
Spain (+600)
- Spain has made plenty of recent headlines, with Real Madrid winning a
third straight Champions League title and Andres Iniesta playing his final
match with FC Barcelona. Now can the national team once again make the
biggest headline of all? The Spaniards won their first World Cup in 2010
before getting bounced out early in 2014.
France (+650)
- France lifted the trophy in 1998 but suffered heartbreak eight years
later when Zinedine Zidane's infamous head-butt led to a shootout loss in
the final against Italy. The Blues were nothing short of a disaster in
2010, but they recovered to reach the quarterfinals in 2014 before falling
to eventual champion Germany.
Golden State Warriors
To win the NBA title (-2200)
- According to the odds (and perhaps according to common sense), the
Warriors are just about a lock to capture their third title in the last
four seasons. And why not? They own a commanding 2-0 lead over Cleveland in
the NBA Finals after surviving Game 1 in overtime and dominating Game 2
122-103.
To win Game 3 at Cleveland (-180)
- There is at least some semblance of good news for Cleveland; well, sort
of. The Cavs should have won the opener and probably would have if not for
J.R. Smith's epic blunder of failing to put back an offensive rebound at
the end of regulation. They are also back at home, where they are 8-1 in
the playoffs.
To score more than 111 points in Game 3 (-105)
- Golden State went for 107 points during regulation in Game 1, finishing
at better than 51 percent from the floor. Curry then set an NBA Finals
record with nine three-pointers this past Sunday as his team racked up 122
points. Houston briefly held the Warriors in check, but the Cavs have not.
To have Kevin Durant on their roster for the 2018/2019 opener (-700)
- Durant is going to decline his player option for the 2018-19 campaign and
get out of his current contract, thus becoming an unrestricted free agent.
But he is expected to do nothing more than restructure his deal with the
Warriors to earn more money.
FedEx St. Jude Classic
Dustin Johnson (+700)
- What's not to like about Johnson's chances this week in Memphis? He won
the St. Jude Classic in 2012 and placed fifth two years ago. The
33-year-old American is also in fine form at the moment. In nine
tournaments in 2018, Johnson has not finished worse than T17 and he lifted
the trophy at Kapalua.
Brooks Koepka (+900)
- Koepka has missed much of this season due to a left-wrist injury, but he
is back and heating up nicely in time for his U.S. Open title defense. The
28-year-old American finished T11 at THE PLAYERS and is coming off a
runner-up showing at Colonial late last month. He tied for second at the
St. Jude Classic in 2016.
Phil Mickelson (+1400)
- Mickelson was on fire in February and March but did basically nothing at
the Masters and missed the cut at THE PLAYERS. Has Lefty recaptured his
form? He placed T13 last week at the Memorial to go along with a recent T5
finish at Quail Hollow. Mickelson is a two-time runner-up at the St. Jude
Classic.
Henrik Stenson (+1600)
- In March and April, Stenson went on a streak of the following
performances: fourth (Bay Hill), sixth (Houston), and fifth (the Masters).
He has not finished worse than 23rd in any of his past six
appearances. However, the 42-year-old has won just once in the United
States since the 2013 Tour Championship.
