Sports Betting Futures Odds: Alabama Obviously Favored to Win Another National Title
And then there were four…. Georgia won't like it-and neither will Ohio
State, for that matter-but the National Championship is coming down to
Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame. But before the College Football
Playoff gets underway, the Heisman Trophy will be decided this weekend. Is
Tua Tagovailoa still the man to beat, or did Kyler Murray do enough with
his late charge?

College Football Playoff
Alabama (-250)
- Now in the fifth year of the College Football Playoff, the Crimson Tide
still have never missed out on the festivities. They would have secured a
berth even with a loss to Georgia in the SEC Championship, but their
come-from-behind 35-28 win kept them undefeated and gave them the clear-cut
No. 1 seed.
Clemson (+270)
- Clemson is part of the CFP for a fourth straight time, including its
fourth time as a top-two seed and second time as an undefeated participant.
The Tigers, who are 13-0 just like Alabama, have won 11 of their 13 games
by at least 20 points. Freshman QB Trevor Lawrence has 24 TDs compared to
only four INTs.
Notre Dame (+1400)
- Making its first appearance in the College Football Playoff, Notre Dame
is a +11 underdog against Clemson in the Cotton Bowl. The Fighting Irish
are undefeated at 12-0, but they lack respect relative to the other
contenders due to their independent schedule that obviously includes no
conference championship game.
Oklahoma (+1400)
- While Lawrence looks like a future Heisman Trophy winner, the Orange Bowl
will be a showdown between this season's top two Heisman finishers. Murray
has more than 4,000 passing yards, 892 rushing yards, and 51 total
touchdowns for the Sooners. But they are still +14.5 underdogs against
'Bama in the Orange Bowl.
Heisman Trophy
Kyler Murray (-125)
- Murray has 40 passing touchdowns to just seven interceptions, and he
saved his absolute best for the latter stages of the season, thus making an
important impression on voters. The junior threw for 379 yards and three
TDs without getting picked off in last weekend's 39-27 Big 12 Championship
win over Texas.
Tua Tagovailoa (+105)
- Tagovailoa's ankle injury-and two interceptions-in the SEC Championship
opened the door for Jalen Hurts' heroics and the former's overall subpar
performance has opened the door for Murray in the Heisman race. The
sophomore still boasts impressive numbers (37 TDs to four INTs), but the
late blemish may cost him.
Dwayne Haskins (+1600)
- Unlike his Ohio State team, Haskins at least got invited to the party-and
deservedly so. The sophomore signal-caller has accounted for 51 touchdowns
(47 through the air) compared to just eight interceptions. Although it
wasn't his fault, the Buckeyes' disastrous loss to Purdue prevents him from
having a chance.
Will Grier (+2500)
- It is probably not a good sign for Grier's longshot chances that he
wasn't even invited to the ceremony. Although he won't win this thing, it
was still a stellar regular season for the West Virginia quarterback. Grier
has tossed 37 scoring strikes to go along with eight picks while leading
the Mountaineers to an 8-3 record.
NBA MVP
Giannis Antetokounmpo (+260)
- The Greek Freak has Milwaukee at 15-7 and currently in second place in
the Eastern Conference behind only Toronto. As usual, he is doing
absolutely everything. Antetokounmpo boasts averages of 27.6 points, 13.2
rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game.
Anthony Davis (+500)
- Speaking of doing everything, Davis is contributing 28.0 points, 13.0
rebounds, 4.8 assists, 2.7 blocks, and 1.6 steals per game. Unfortunately
for the former Kentucky standout, New Orleans still just isn't very good
(currently 12-13). Missing the playoffs would hurt Davis' MVP chances.
LeBron James (+550)
- If LeBron-with another solid but unspectacular supporting cast-can turn
the Lakers from one of the worst teams in the NBA to a top-four seed in the
Western Conference, a fifth career MVP award is possible. The 33-year-old
is averaging 27.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per
game.
Stephen Curry (+800)
- Curry recently missed 11 contests with a groin injury, and Golden State
went 5-6 during that stretch. The former Davidson star is pouring in 29.4
points per game even though he has to share the spoils with Kevin Durant
and Klay Thompson, among others. Curry is shooting a career-best 51.6
percent from the floor.
Zion Williamson and R.J. Barrett
(
Bovada Sportsbook
)
Williamson to average more than 23.5 ppg (+120)
- Duke is off to a 7-1 start this season, and either Williamson or Barrett
has led the team in scoring on all eight occasions. Williamson is averaging
20.8 points per game but those numbers will increase when he logs more
minutes against ACC competition.
Williamson to average more than 8.5 rpg (-140)
- The Spartanburg, S.C. native is already averaging 8.8 boards per contest
even though he has played no more than 23 minutes in four of eight games
this season. He pulled down 16 in 32 minutes of work against Army on Nov.
11.
Barrett to average more than 23.5 ppg (-135)
- Barrett has led the way in scoring for the Blue Devils five times. He
began his college career with a bang against Kentucky, which he torched for
33 points to go along with six assists and four rebounds. He is already
averaging 29.8 minutes per game.
Barrett to average more than 6.0 rpg (-115)
- The do-it-all forward from Canada is currently corralling 6.3 boars per
outing. He has been crashing the glass especially strong of late, with at
least seven rebounds in four consecutive contests. Barrett had 26, 7, 7,
and 4 (also assists and steals) against Stetson last weekend.
