Sports Betting Futures Odds: LeBron Favored to Win MVP
The 2018-19 NBA regular season gets underway next Tuesday, with
Philadelphia visiting Boston and Oklahoma City making a trip to Golden
State. LeBron James and the Lakers start two days later with a road test
against Portland. Meanwhile, the NHL is already off and running and things
are heating up nicely on the gridiron-especially in the competitive but
entirely unspectacular NFC East.

NBA MVP
LeBron James (+330)
- It would help LeBron's chances if the Lakers are good, and they are
expected to be just that-fourth favorites (+1000) for the NBA title and
third favorites (+650) in the Western Conference. Still going strong at 33
years old, LeBron averaged 27.5 ppg last season in Cleveland for his best
mark since 2009-10.
Anthony Davis (+400)
- With DeMarcus Cousins having bolted for Golden State, New Orleans
continues to be Davis' team-now to an even greater extent. The former
Kentucky standout delivered 28.1 ppg, 11.1 rpg, and 2.6 bpg in 2017-18. At
25 years old, Davis may be the guy with whom you would start a franchise
right now.
James Harden (+500)
- Harden picked up MVP honors this past season, winning the scoring title
(with room to spare) at 30.4 ppg while finishing third in assists (8.8
apg). Carmelo Anthony will probably take away some stats as he arrives in
Houston, but the 34-year-old smartly attempted a career-low 15.0 shots per
game with OKC in 2017-18.
Giannis Antetokounmpo (+500)
- They don't call him the Greek Freak for nothing. Antetokounmpo stands at
6'11'' while moving and jumping like someone much smaller. He also has
youth on his side at a mere 23 years old. Milwaukee's star has enjoyed
steady improvement in each of his five seasons, most recently peaking at
26.9 ppg.
First NHL head coach fired
Todd McLellan, Oilers (+200)
- McLellan turned Edmonton around in his second season there to the tune of
103 points, but the team slumped to 78 points in 2017-18 and missed the
playoffs by a mile. The Oilers lost this season's opener 5-2 to New Jersey.
With a star like Connor McDavid, the pressure is on to win now.
Guy Boucher, Senators (+220)
- Ottawa reached the Eastern Conference Finals in Boucher's first year at
the helm, but it was absolutely awful in 2017-18 (67 points). The Senators
are supposed to be the worst team in the entire NHL this season (they have
the longest odds to win the Stanley Cup), so Boucher may not last long.
Joel Quenneville, Blackhawks (+260)
- The Blackhawks won three Stanley Cups in Quenneville's first seven
seasons. It is safe to say the honeymoon is over as Chicago has since lost
twice in the first round (2015-16, 2016-17) and missed the playoffs
(2017-18). The 'Hawks, however, are off to a solid 2-0-1 start through
three games.
Jeff Blashill, Red Wings (+950)
- With an esteemed franchise like Detroit, you are not going to get many
more than three years. In Blashill's first three, the Red Wings lost in the
first round and then missed the playoffs twice. They are a disappointing
0-1-2 so far in 2018-19. Anaheim's Randy Carlyle is also a +950 fourth
choice.
NFC East
(MyBookie.ag)
Philadelphia Eagles (+120)
- Every team in this division lost in Week 5, and no one looks poised to
take control. The Eagles, of course, took the NFC East at 13-3 last season
on their eventual way to the Super Bowl. However, their title defense is
off to a rocky start. Philadelphia is just 2-3, and running back Jay Ajayi
(ACL) is out for the year.
Washington Redskins (+220)
- The Redskins watched Drew Brees become the NFL's all-time leading passer
on Monday night as he shredded them for 363 yards and three touchdowns en
route to a 43-19 victory for New Orleans. Still, a modest .500 record (2-2)
is currently good enough for Washington to remain atop the division.
Dallas Cowboys (+260)
- One game back of the Redskins are Philadelphia and Dallas, both at 2-3.
Head coach Jason Garrett's seat is getting hotter after he elected to punt
on 4th-and-1 in Houston territory during overtime this past
Sunday. The Texans went on to win 19-16 in what was another poor
performance by the Cowboys offense.
New York Giants (+1200)
- If the Giants somehow get the job done this season, each NFC East member
would have won it twice in the last eight years. That may be unlikely at
best, but the other three teams are not exactly putting them away. Rookie
Saquon Barkley looks like the real deal, but New York's defense has stunk
the last two weeks.
CIMB Classic
Justin Thomas (+500)
- Thomas went back-to-back at this Kuala Lumpur event in 2016 and 2017
before finishing a decent T17 last year. The fourth-ranked American looks
primed for more success with five top-12 performances in his last six
starts dating back to a title at the Bridgestone Invitational. He also
played well at the Ryder Cup.
Ryan Moore (+1600)
- Like Thomas, Moore is a two-time champion of this tournament (2013 and
2014). He placed a respectable T17 two years ago before not playing it last
season. The 35-year-old American heads into this week with plenty of
momentum, having finished runner-up at the Safeway Open (lost in a playoff
to Kevin Tway).
Xander Schauffele (+1600)
- Schauffele finished T3 last fall in Kuala Lumpur, where he opened with
rounds of 65, 65, and 67. That performance came shortly after he triumphed
at the TOUR Championship. The 24-year-old excelled once again the playoffs,
delivering a T3 showing at the BMW Championship and a T7 in Atlanta.
Billy Horschel (+1600)
- Not including a withdrawal from the Dell Technologies Championship in the
middle of round one, Horschel has finished in the top three of three
consecutive events. At East Lake he closed with rounds of 65, 69, and 66 to
finish runner-up behind Tiger Woods. Based on current form, Horschel must
like his chances.
