Sports Betting Futures Odds: Carnoustie Hosts Third Golf Major of the Year
The all-star break is always a slow week in sports, and this one will feel
even slower since the World Cup-and Wimbledon, for that matter-just ended.
But the British Open will help fill the void, with Carnoustie hosting the
festivities for the second time since Jan Van De Velde's epic collapse in
1999. And it's never too early to start looking ahead to the World Cup in
2022! Well, maybe it is….
All odds provided by Bovada Sportsbook.
British Open
Dustin Johnson (+1000)
- The U.S. Open is by far Johnson's best major (and only title in 2016),
but he has three top-10s at the British (T2 in 2011) and two other top-14s.
He is the top-ranked player in the world and without question the best on
tour right now. Johnson recently won the FedEx St. Jude Classic and was T3
at the U.S. Open.
Rory McIlroy (+1600)
- As an amateur at Carnoustie in 2007, McIlroy fired a first-round 68 and
made the cut before finishing T42. The Northern Irishman has since won four
majors, including the British Open in 2014. He has been T5 and T4 the last
two years at the Open, so he has to like his chances despite not being
quite in peak form.
Jordan Spieth (+1600)
- Spieth has been an absolute disaster by his standards of late, but he
generally gets his game in top shape for majors. He did that at the British
last summer, when he hoisted the Claret Jug following a memorable duel with
Matt Kuchar. The 24-year-old American was also T3 at the Masters earlier
this season.
Justin Rose (+1600)
- On this list of favorites, Rose and McIlroy were the only ones around at
Carnoustie 11 years ago. The Englishman recovered from a slow start to
place T12 along with Tiger Woods. Rose has posted three straight top-10s on
the PGA Tour, including a win in late May. Rickie Fowler is also a +1600
second choice.
World Series
Houston Astros (+450)
- The defending World Series champions are once again looking like the best
team in baseball. Houston's 64-35 record is second best behind only Boston
and its plus-188 run differential is by far the best in business (25 better
than that of the Red Sox). The Astros are second in runs scored and first
in ERA.
Boston Red Sox (+500)
- Boston seems to have taken control of the American League East with an
awesome 12-1 record in its last 13 games since losing two of three to the
rival Yankees. The Red Sox, who lead New York by 4.5 games, are No. 1 in
Major League Baseball in runs scored and batting average, and also fifth in
ERA.
New York Yankees (+500)
- The Yankees have not done too much wrong, with a solid but unspectacular
8-5 record in their last 13 outings. Their problem is simply that Boston is
on fire. The Bronx Bombers have gone deep 161 times this season-25 by Aaron
Judge, 23 from Giancarlo Stanton, and at least 14 off the bats of four
other players.
Chicago Cubs (+700)
- If the American League is baseball's version of the NBA's Western
Conference, then the Cubs are hoping to be what LeBron James used to be in
the Eastern Conference-or the equivalent of baseball's National League. The
2016 World Series champs lost in the NLCS last year, but they are a stellar
55-38 right now.
2022 World Cup
France (+200)
- France has participated in exactly half of the last six World Cup finals,
winning twice-first in 1998 and again this past Sunday. This current team
is young and super athletic, perhaps only getting better with time. They
should be loaded for the 2022 festivities in Qatar, and Kylian Mbappe could
be best player on the planet by then.
Brazil (+700)
- At least Brazil did not muff things up as bad as it did when it hosted in
2014 (lost to Germany 7-1 in the semifinals). Still, the Brazilians were
the pre-tournament favorites this time around and got bounced by Belgium
2-1 during quarterfinal action. Neymar should still be in his prime at 30
years old in 2022.
Spain (+750)
- Brazil is the all-time leader with five World Cup titles, while Spain is
one of two countries (England is the other) that has lifted the trophy
exactly once. The Spaniards got the job done in 2010 before failing to
reach the quarterfinals on each of the past two occasions. This team is not
young, so it will have to reload.
Germany (+800)
- Germany's bid to tie Brazil with five titles came up well short, as its
title defense never got off the ground in Russia. The Germans just barely
stayed alive following their second group-stage match before getting
eliminated with a shocking 2-0 loss to South Korea. Like Spain, this is a
squad that could look much different in 2022.
Justin Bieber/Hailey Baldwin
Engagement to last between six months and one year (+150)
- Bieber and Baldwin got engaged earlier this month. Baldwin is the
21-year-old daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin, and therefore the niece of
actor Alec Baldwin. One to 1.5 years is also +150, while less than six
months is +250 and more than 1.5 years is +350.
To get married before the end of 2018 (+160)
- Bieber and Baldwin dated and 2015 and 2016 before taking a break. They
reportedly just recently got back together and wasted no time getting
engaged. If they are in a similar hurry to get married, it could come
sometime in 2018. But after 2018 is a -230 favorite.
To get married in the United States (-140)
- Bieber, of course, is Canadian. Baldwin hails from the United States
(Tucson, Ariz. to be specific). Getting married at the bride's home is more
traditional, which is which is why USA is the favorite. Canada is +130,
while any country other than the USA or Canada is +250.
Ryan Butler to be Bieber's best man (+125)
- Butler has been Bieber's best friend since they were growing up in
Stratford, Ontario. And he really isn't known for anything else aside from
having a decent Instagram following and appearing in a few of Bieber's
music videos. Father Jeremy Bieber and agent Scooter Braun are both +250.
