This Week in Sports Betting A-Z
A. Albert Pujols
. A Derek Jeter home run it was not-but with his flare to right field
during the Angels' 5-0 victory at Seattle last Friday night, Pujols became
the 32nd player in Major League Baseball to reach the 3,000-hit
milestone. The 38-year-old passed Roberto Clemente with a two-run single
later in the game for hit number 3,001. Los Angeles is +1300 at
GT Bets
to win the World Series.
B. Brady, Tom
. Robert Kraft may want to stick to football. One, his team's quarterback
just announced that he is good to go for at least the next two seasons.
Two, he looked like a fish out of water while conversing with Meek Mill and
Gucci Mane at last Thursday's Celtics-Sixers game.
C. Clayton Kershaw
. The Dodgers placed Kershaw on the 10-day disabled list last weekend due
to left biceps tendinitis. Kershaw is just 1-4 so far this season, but his
ERA is a solid 2.86 ERA through seven starts.
D. DFA
. Someone who doesn't have a solid ERA? That would be Matt Harvey,
who was designated for assignment by the Mets last week. The 29-year-old
was 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA through 27.0 innings this season. New York is +300
at MyBookie.ag to
win the National League East.
E. Extension
. Matt Ryan's extension is done, as the Falcons added five years to his
contract (which would have expired after this upcoming season) and will pay
him $30 million per year. Ryan is now the highest-paid player in NFL
history. It's safe to say that blowing any more 28-3 leads in the Super
Bowl would not be a good return on investment.
F. Fultz, Markelle
. Fultz has four DNP-Coach's Decision through four games against the
Celtics. Just think if the 76ers had drafted Jayson Tatum No. 1 overall
instead of Fultz. They wouldn't be trailing this series 3-1; that's for
sure!
G. Green, Draymond
. A text message from Draymond sent at 4:00 a.m. allegedly spurred Kevin
Durant to a 38-point performance in the Warriors' 118-92 road rout of New
Orleans in Game 4 on Sunday. That's probably be the first good thing that
has ever happened at 4:00 a.m. when it comes to Draymond.
Golden State is a -11.5 home favorite
on Tuesday, per Bovada Sportsbook.
H. Harvick, Kevin
. Harvick took home the checked flag from Dover this past weekend, coasting
to the finish line ahead of Clint Bowyer while leading the final 63 laps.
Now 18th on the all-time NASCAR list with 41 wins, Harvick
triumphed for the fourth time this season.
I.
Ingles, Joe
. Not even Ingles can save Utah from ultimate despair against Houston. The
30-year-old Aussie, who surely instills hope of future greatness in all
recreational players at your local YMCA, went 7-for-9 from three-point
range in the Jazz's Game 2 upset and he is averaging 14.8 points per game
in the postseason. But the underdogs lost the next two at home and are now
on the brink of elimination. 5Dimes Sportsbook has
the Rockets as -12 home favorites in Game 5 on Tuesday night.
J. Jason Witten
. Redskins' head coach Jay Gruden rarely beats the Cowboys, but his brother
just did them dirty-albeit inadvertently. Jon Gruden's arrival as head
coach of the Raiders left a vacancy in ESPN's Monday Night Football booth,
and it is Witten who will fill it. The opportunity led Witten, 36, to
announce his retirement from the NFL last week. He finished with 1152
catches for 12,448 yards and 68 touchdowns.
K. Kentucky Derby
. Bob Baffert had a good day at Churchill Downs. Justify had a great day.
Some woman from Austin, Tex. who turned an $18 bet into $1.2 million had an
even better day. She picked the winner in five straight races-including
Justify in the main event.
L. LeBron James
. Let's be honest; the Raptors' season ended the minute Cleveland scraped
past Indiana. It officially ended on Monday, when the Cavaliers completed a
four-game sweep with a 128-93 embarrassment-eliminating Toronto for a third
straight season. LeBron average 34.0 points, 11.3 assists, 8.3 rebounds,
and 0.25 legendary buzzer-beaters per game during the series.
M. Mookie Betts
. Boston's right fielder delivered his fourth career three-homer game last
Wednesday. He has hit two more since and is currently leading the majors in
batting average (.355) and home runs (13). The Red Sox (25-9) are the best
team in baseball, one game clear of none other than the Yankees.
Boston (Pomeranz) is a +175 underdog
at the Yankees (Severino) on Tuesday, according to MyBookie.ag.
N. Nadal, Rafael
. Nadal is going for "only" his sixth career title in Madrid this week. His
recent triumphs in Monte-Carlo and Barcelona were his 11th at
each of those two events. The world No. 1 is 12-0 on clay in 2018 and has
won 46 consecutive clay-court sets dating back to last season. Nadal is a
-255 favorite at BookMaker to win the
French Open.
O. Ovechkin, Alex
. Kanye West doing well on an IQ test seemed more likely than Washington
ever beating Pittsburgh in a playoff series. But that (Washington beating
Pittsburgh; not Kanye doing well on an IQ test) is exactly what happened on
Monday. Ovechkin did not find the back of the net in the Capitals' 2-1
overtime victory in Game 6, but he assisted on Evgeny Kuznetsov's winner
and finished the series with three goals and four assists.
P. Patrick Beverley
. Beverley didn't do much winning with the Clippers this season. But his
mom did a whole lot of it on "The Price is Right." Last Wednesday, Lisa
Beverley racked up two cars, a six-night trip to Madagascar, and $1,000 in
cash-good for a reported total value of $41,000.
Q. Quail Hollow
. Like everyone else, you're probably so overly bombarded with "Tiger Woods
this", "Tiger Woods that" by the media that the following statistic went
unnoticed until now: Jason Day has not missed a putt inside five feat this entire year. The trend continued during last week's Wells
Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, N.C., where Day
triumphed by two strokes. Tiger, meanwhile, went without a birdie while
closing in 3-over fashion on Sunday en route to a tie for 55th.
R. Rosen, Josh
. Rosen may talk a big game, but he let his kindness do the talking on
#HugsFromHollyDay last week (a day to honor the memory of Holly Heap,
daughter of former Ravens' tight end Todd Heap). The former UCLA
quarterback left a $300 tip on a $94.50 meal after taking his mom out for
sushi. That's a 317 percent tip, for those counting.
S. Serena Williams
. Citing a need for more preparation in advance of her clay-court swing,
Serena withdrew from this week's premier event in Madrid. Translation: I'm
too busy posting photos of my baby boy on social media.
T.
Ty Cobb
. Cobb, a White House lawyer, announced his resignation last week. Perhaps
confusing him with Ty Cobb the former baseball player, President Trump
maybe thought he was 131 years old and too old for the job.
U. UEFA Champions League
. Ronaldo suffered a sprained ankle in last week's El Clasico draw against
FC Barcelona and missed the second half, but he should be good to go later
this month for the Champions League final against Liverpool. Real is a -140
favorite at
Bovada Sportsbook
.
V. Vegas Golden Knights
. The San Jose Sharks' Twitter account is great (look it up if you aren't
aware). As for the actual team, it wasn't so great against Vegas (who
is?!?!). The Golden Knights eliminated San Jose with a 3-0 win this past
Sunday, good for their second shutout of the series and fourth through two
rounds of the playoffs. In the other Western Conference semifinal,
Nashville is a -150 home favorite
over Winnipeg in Game 7 on Wednesday-as indicated by BookMaker.
W. Washington Redskins
. According to a recent New York Times report, Redskins'
cheerleaders were required to pose topless for a 2013 photo shoot, and some
were required to attend a nightclub outing as escorts. Well, that's one to
make headlines when you are otherwise obscure in the NFC East.
X. Xavier
. If you haven't heard of Kaiser Gates, you probably aren't alone.
Nonetheless, the guy is foregoing his senior year at Xavier and jumping to
the NBA after averaging all of 7.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 0.9 assists
per game last season.
Y. Yaya Toure
. Toure announced last week that this season will be his last with
Manchester City, which clinched the English Premier League title for the
third time during his tenure. He will play his final EPL home match on
Wednesday before the Sky Blues wrap up their 2017-18 campaign at
Southampton on Sunday.
Z. Zero
. That's how many hits San Diego got against the Dodgers last Friday. Los
Angeles tossed the 12th combined no-hitter in major-league
history when it beat the Padres 4-0 in Mexico. Walker Buehler made his
third career start and went six innings before giving way to relievers Tony
Cingrani, Yimi Garcia, and Adam Liberatore.
