This Week in Sports Betting A-Z
A. Antoine Griezmann
. Griezmann leads France in points (five) during this World Cup and is a
big reason why his team is in Sunday's final. The 27-year-old assisted on
Samuel Umtiti's goal via a set piece during semifinal action on Tuesday,
when the Blues edged Belgium 1-0.
B. Bouchard, Genie
. Things aren't going well for Genie on the tennis court and they aren't
going to well of it, either, because fellow Canadian Justin Bieber is
engaged. The 24-year-old singer recently tied the knot with Hailey Baldwin,
and Genie is-or was-not afraid to admit that she has-or had-Bieber fever.
Selena Gomez is +350 at XBet.ag
to attend the wedding.
C. Colin Miller
. Miller signed a four-year contract extension with the Golden Knights this
past weekend. The 25-year-old defenseman scored four goals and added 31
assists in all 82 regular-season games Vegas during the 2017-18 campaign.
D. Daniel Cormier
. Cormier scored a knockout win over Stipe Miocic in the UFC 226
competition last weekend. Miocic may not care, because: 1) he still has a
sweet name, and 2) judging from his name it is safe to go ahead and assume
that he hails from Croatia-which means he cares more about soccer than
ultimate fighting these days.
E. England
. Speaking of Croatian soccer, that team is playing its World Cup semifinal
on Wednesday against England. The Croats have won two straight matches in
shootouts, while England is coming off a penalty-kicks victory over
Colombia in the quarters. Check out our
England vs. Croatia preview
.
F. Fromm, Jake
. Georgia's sophomore quarterback broke his non-throwing hand last week,
but he is not expected to miss any summer workouts. The Bulldogs also have
freshman phenom Justin Fields waiting in the wings, so they should be just
fine.
G. Gray, Sonny
. The Yankees' right-hander is 5-7 with a 5.84 ERA-the third-worst ERA in
the majors among starters with at least 80 innings pitched. He will take
the mound on Wednesday, but one more poor outing could be the end. "I am
concerned, but we also believe in the stuff," manager Aaron Boone said of
Gray. "We've got to try and help him right the ship a little bit…. I don't
think we're considering [having him skip a scheduled start] right now. Part
of it is right now we feel like he's our best option."
The Yankees (Gray) are -150 favorites
at Baltimore (Bundy) on Wednesday, per MyBookie.ag.
H. Halep, Simona
. The women's singles draw at Wimbledon has been one big mess right from
the start. Four of the top eight seeds lost in round one, two more such
players fell in round two, and nine of the top 10 were out prior to the
second week. Count Halep among them, as the reigning French Open champion
was upset by Su-Wei Hsieh 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 last Saturday. Jelena Ostapenko,
who emerged from Halep's section of the draw, is a +140 underdog at
Bovada Sportsbook
against Angelique Kerber in the semifinals on Thursday.
I.
Individual classification
. That's cycling speak for "overall standings." Through four stages of the
Tour de France, Belgium's Greg Van Avermaet has the lead and American
Teejay van Garderen is second. It appears that if you have "van" in your
name, you're good at cycling.
J. Jonas Jerebko
. At this point the Warriors could sign Jackie Moon from "Semi-Pro" and
people would still be furious. Golden State added Jerebko to its haul this
past weekend. That isn't exactly Earth-shaking news, but the Swedish power
forward has averaged as many as 9.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in a
season and he is capable of being a solid role player. BookMaker has the
over/under for Warriors' losses in 2018-19 at 16.5.
K. Keim, Steve
. The Arizona Cardinals' general manager was recently cited for driving
under the influence on July 4 in Chandler, Ariz. Keim is also reported to
have lied about his identity and he has a past DUI charge from 1996. All of
that is, well, not ideal.
L. Lindor, Francisco
. Lindor has hit safely in nine of his last 11 games and he has a whopping
14 multi-hit performances in his last 28 contests. The Indians' shortstop
is batting .296 with 24 home runs and 59 RBIs this season.
GT Bets
has Cleveland at +600 to win the American League Pennant.
M. Marvin Bagley
. If you go to Duke, you're supposed to be bad in the NBA. If you go to the
Sacramento Kings, you're supposed to be bad in the NBA. Early returns in
the Summer League, however, were good for Bagley. But he is now out for the
rest of it due to a pelvic bone bruise. Ouch.
N. Na, Kevin
. Na is known for a few things: incredibly slow play, carding a 16 on a
hole at the 2011 Valero Texas Open, and getting mentioned in the "Golf
Boys" song. But he can now also introduce himself as a two-time winner on
the PGA Tour, having triumphed at the Greenbrier last week. Na fired a
final-round 64 and won by five shots and 19-under.
O. Offense
. There was a whole lot of it by the Diamondbacks this past Saturday. They
racked up a ridiculous 20 runs, humiliating San Diego 20-5 while getting 17
hits (five homers) and walking seven times. Arizona spread the wealth
around, as no player had more than three RBIs but four different
Diamondbacks reached that number.
P. Philip Rivers
. FanSided recently named Rivers the Broncos' greatest villain ever. In 25
career games against Denver, the San Diego signal-caller has thrown for
5,679 yards with 41 touchdowns and 23 interceptions (89.6 passer rating).
He is 12-13 overall in that AFC West rivalry. In other words, the Broncos
must not have many villains. Check out our
breakdown of San Diego's 2018 road schedule
.
Q. Quioto, Romell
. It's easy to have forgotten about Major League Soccer with the World Cup
ongoing, but-yes-the MLS is still underway. Quioto, a forward for Houston,
notched an assist during a 3-0 rout of Minnesota this past Sunday. He now
has seven assists on the season (tied for second in the league) to go along
with three goals.
R. Ronaldo, Cristiano
. It's official: Ronaldo has jumped ship from Real Madrid to Juventus. The
33-year-old was transferred on Tuesday for the small fee of 100 Euros-a
Serie A record. Ronaldo and Real have won three consecutive UEFA Champions
League titles.
S. Suns
. Not sure anyone was prepared to live in a world in which Devin Booker is
a five-year, $158 million maximum player, but here we are. The former
Kentucky standout signed that extension with Phoenix last week.
T.
Tony Parker
. First the Tim Duncan era ended in 2016 and now the Tony Parker era has
ended in 2018. The veteran point guard left the Spurs last week, signing a
two-year contract with Charlotte. Who will be next to go in San Antonio?
Manu Ginobili? Kawhi Leonard? We only know that one thing will remain the
same: epic Gregg Popovich third-quarter sideline interviews.
U. Unbreakable
. That's what Cal Ripken's ironman steak is. Ripken's record is 2,642.
Royals' shortstop Alcides Escobar had played in 421 straight games before
sitting this past Sunday, and 421 was…you guessed it..,the longest active
streak in baseball. San Diego's Freddy Galvis is now the current leader at
257-still more than 10 times away from Ripken. 5Dimes Sportsbook has
Kansas City (Smith) as a +190 underdog at Minnesota (Lynn) on Wednesday.
V. Vida, Domagoj
. Vida's goal in the first overtime temporarily put Croatia ahead of Russia
2-1 in their quarterfinal last weekend. The host nation ended up finding a
dramatic equalizer in the second extra period, but the Croats recovered to
win a shootout 4-3. Check out our
best bets for the semifinals
.
W. Woods vs. Mickelson
. A made-for-TV match between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson is in the
works, and it will reportedly be for a cool $10 million. We've always known
Phil likes to gamble, but this is taking it to a whole new level. And golf
fans will be the beneficiaries of this entertainment. For now, MyBookie.ag has
Tiger at +2500 to win this month's British Open; Dustin Johnson is a +1100
favorite.
X. X
. Measured in Roman numerals, that's how many RBIs Mark Reynolds had last
Saturday. The Nationals' first baseman went 5-for-5 with two homers, one
double, and three runs scored to go along with all of those RBIs as
Washington hammered Miami 18-4.
Y. Young, Trae
. One of Young's teammates in Atlanta-Tauren Prince-once explained the art
of a rebound. Apparently no one on the Hawks was able to explain to Young
the art of putting a ball in a basket through the first five Summer League
games. But the sixth time was the charm for the No. 5 overall pick, who
went 7-for-13 from three-point range and finished with 24 points in a
101-93 victory over Chicago on Tuesday.
Z. Zach LaVine
. The Bulls have matched a four-year, $78 million offer sheet that LaVine
had signed with Sacramento. In other words, LaVine went from bad to worse
and then back to bad.
