NFL Office Pool Picks Week 13
Things are getting serious in the world of NFL office pools. No more bye weeks. No more fooling around. The pretenders have been kicked to the curb, and the contenders are all in a death match for playoff qualification and for seeding once they get there. It gets fun now. And we are going to add to the fun by picking as many wins as we possibly can. About 16 sounds good to me:
New Orleans at Dallas: Dallas is a division leader, but it's only a title. They are trash, and the three wins in a row doesn't hide that. And they are running headlong into a buzzsaw here. New Orleans has won 10 straight, have dominated time and time again, and are a brutal matchup for the Cowboys. Take the Saints.
Baltimore at Atlanta: Lamar Jackson has looked solid, and he will only grow in confidence with more starts. Atlanta, meanwhile, is a team stuck deep in their own heads. It's getting ugly after three straight losses. Take the Ravens.
Denver at Cincinnati: It doesn't necessarily make sense, but the Broncos have won two in a row and are playing pretty well right now. Cincinnati, meanwhile, has a mess of a defense, questions at QB, and a coaching staff that is almost comically bad. Take the Broncos.
L.A. Rams at Detroit: You never really know what you are going to get from the Lions from week to week, but it ranges from mildly impressive to wildly frustrating. The Rams, meanwhile, just keep rolling. And they have had a bye week to get ready for this one. Mismatch. Take the Rams.
Arizona at Green Bay: Green Bay is a lousy team right now and is hard to trust. They are barreling towards a coaching change and have all but given up. But the Cardinals are even worse and are not necessarily built to play in Wisconsin in December. Take the Packers.
Buffalo at Miami: Buffalo is a long way from good, but they have shown something the last couple of weeks, winning two in a row and playing with some jump in their steps. Miami has lost two straight and is playing more like they don't want to lose than like they care about winning. Let's gamble - take the Bills.
Chicago at New York Giants: The Bears have won five in a row thanks to an excellent defense and some solid enough offense. The Giants are not playing great, and Eli Manning is not in a place in his career where he can handle this defense. Take the Bears.
Carolina at Tampa Bay: Carolina is a mess, having lost three in a row at a time when they had the playoffs in the palms of their hands. A major disappointment. But the Bucs are perhaps the toughest team to judge in the league this year. I literally flipped a coin here, and it came up for Carolina. I won't bother flipping it again.
Indianapolis at Jacksonville: Jacksonville has made a QB change and fired their offensive coordinator heading into this game. That's not the move of a confident, capable team. I can smell the desperation from here, and I am a very long way from Florida. The Colts are playing with confidence behind some great play from Andrew Luck. Take the Colts.
Cleveland at Houston: Baker Mayfield is playing really well and is showing a clear picture of what he can become. But Houston has forgotten how to lose and is at home. Take the Texans.
New York Jets at Tennessee: Things looked promising early on for the Jets this year, but between an injured QB and the general melancholy that comes with being this franchise, they are not in a good place right now. Tennessee isn't great, either, but at least they have a QB. Take the Titans.
Kansas City at Oakland: One of these teams has one of the three most exciting offenses in the league, is well rested after a bye, and is going to be eager to get back to winning after a frustrating loss to the Rams last time out. The other team is an absolute circus, with a cartoon character as a ringmaster who is too clueless to realize he knows nothing about personnel decisions. Needless to say, this is a mismatch. Take the Chiefs.
Minnesota at New England: On paper this should be one of the best games of the season - or at least it looked that way heading into the season. But while the Patriots are potentially going to have a playoff bye yet again, they are far from their most dominant, and the Vikings are just limp. It's a letdown game. Take the Patriots.
San Francisco at Seattle: San Francisco has lost two in a row and just isn't playing like anything close to a good team. Because they aren't. Seattle is not a great team, but they are in decent form right now and are clearly the better team. Take the Seahawks.
L.A. Chargers at Pittsburgh: This is a very interesting game, because the loser will likely take a big hit in their pursuit of a playoff bye. Pittsburgh is coming off a disappointing loss, while the Chargers are coming off a nice win. Tough game. Take the Steelers at home.
Washington at Philadelphia: What a mess of a game. Washington needs a win to stay in the hunt for the division win. Philadelphia needs a win to get into the race. And the fact that this game is that important for the division tells you just how bad the NFC East is right now. Take the Eagles.
