Sports Betting Futures Odds: Spieth Looking to Complete Career Slam at PGA Championship
After a thrilling finish at the British Open that propelled him to his
first Claret Jug, Jordan Spieth can wrap up the career Grand Slam at this
week's PGA Championship in Charlotte. It is now the only major that has
eluded the 24-year-old American. Meanwhile, baseball is making its push
toward the playoffs and football season is on the immediate horizon.

PGA Championship
(MyBookie.ag)
Rory McIlroy (+550)
- McIlroy's form has not been the best in 2017, but that may not matter
this week. He absolutely loves Quail Hollow, the site of this season's
fourth and final major. The Northern Irishman has won there twice (2010,
2015), and he placed T4 at the Wells Fargo Championship last year.
Jordan Spieth (+650)
- As good as McIlory is in Charlotte, Spieth is by far the biggest story
heading into this week. Having triumphed at the British Open last month, he
can complete the career slam at the PGA. Spieth finished runner-up to Jason
Day at this major two years ago and placed T13 in 2016.
Dustin Johnson (+800)
- The world No. 1 has not been the same since missing the Masters with a
freak back injury. He missed the U.S. Open cut, was T54 at British, T8 in
Canada, and T17 at last week's Bridgestone Invitational. Johnson has four
top-10 showings in eight starts at the PGA Championship.
Hideki Matsuyama (+1500)
- Almost no one has been better than Matsuyama in 2017. He has three PGA
Tour victories (including this past week at the Bridgestone by five shots),
and he was runner-up to Brooks Koepka at the U.S. Open. The world No. 3 has
two straight top-20s at Quail Hollow, as well. Rickie Fowler is also a
+1500 fifth choice.
National League MVP
Bryce Harper (-125)
- At 24 years old, Harper already has one MVP Award under his belt (2015).
The Nationals' outfielder is on course for another, batting .327 with 29
home runs, 82 RBIs, and 90 runs so far this season. He also has Washington
cruising to the NL East title.
Paul Goldschmidt (+175)
- Goldschmidt is right behind Harper on the NL batting list (fifth at
.324). The Diamondbacks' first baseman is second in the league with 89 RBIs
to go along with 25 homers and 86 runs scored. If Arizona holds on to a
wild-card spot, Goldschmidt will have a chance.
Nolan Arenado (+450)
- Arenado has the Rockies in serious wild-card contention, currently a
half-game ahead of the D-Backs atop the race. The 26-year-old third baseman
leads the majors with 98 RBIs, and he also has 25 dingers in addition to 72
runs scored.
Anthony Rendon (+1800)
- There's Harper, Goldschmidt, and Arenado, and then there's everyone else.
It's hard to see anyone on the Nationals other than Harper getting this
award, but Rendon has impressed in 2017 with a .308 average, 21 home runs,
and 74 RBIs.
NFL Playoffs
Atlanta Falcons to make it (-140)
- The reigning NFC champions (and should-be Super Bowl champions) are
hoping to build on one of their best seasons in franchise history.
Atlanta's offense, led by 2016 MVP Matt Ryan, will be loaded once more. But
cornerback Jalen Collins' 10-game suspension for PEDs does not help.
New York Giants to make it (Even)
- New York has not won the NFC East since 2011, when it also won the Super
Bowl. The Giants bagged a wild-card spot last season but promptly got blown
out by Green Bay in the playoffs. Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. could
not help their team finish better than 25th in total offense in
2016.
Houston Texans to make it (+145)
- Quarterback Tom Savage will start the preseason opener. But Houston has
been starting guys like Tom Savage at QB for far too many years. The
DeShaun Watson era will soon be here, so the Texans may finally have reason
to hope that their offense lives up to the same standard as their defense.
Los Angeles Chargers (+240)
- Yes, you read that right: the Los Angeles Chargers. In their first season
away from San Diego since 1960, the Chargers are looking to bounce back
from a 5-11 campaign in which they lost their last five games. Philip
Rivers and company have reached the playoffs only once in the past seven
years (2013).
SEC Championship
Alabama (-150)
- Alabama is favored to win the National Championship, so it comes as no
surprise that the perennial powerhouse is also expected to dominate the
SEC. Head coach Nick Saban's squad has won three straight SEC titles and
four of the last five. QB Jalen Hurts and RB Bo Scarbrough are Heisman
Trophy contenders.
Auburn (+500)
- As usual, the Iron Bowl could have major implications this season aside
from simply pitting two of college football's fiercest rivals against each
other. Auburn, which last lifted the SEC trophy in 2013, is coming off a
mediocre 8-5 campaign and has lost 16 games over the past three seasons.
Georgia (+500)
- No SEC East representative has captured the conference crown since
Florida in 2008. Georgia has not gotten the job done since 2005. Once
again, though, the Bulldogs are loaded on paper. QB Jacob Eason has a
season under his belt and RB Nick Chubb should be 100 percent following his
2015 leg injury.
LSU (+600)
- The West Division will be particularly intriguing in 2017, just as it is
every year. In addition to Alabama and Auburn, LSU finds itself among the
conference favorites yet again. Ed Orgeron went 6-2 with the Tigers after
taking over for Les Miles in 2016, and he now enters his first full season
as head coach.
