Sports Betting Futures Odds: Tiger Returns for Hero World Challenge
Tiger Woods is back. Well, perhaps chickens should not be counted before
they hatch. So it would be more accurate to say that Tiger is scheduled to
be back when the Hero World Challenge begins on Thursday in the Bahamas.
The 14-time major champion last played in January at Torrey Pines before
undergoing a fourth back surgery in April.

Hero World Challenge
Justin Thomas (+550)
- Tiger will be the story for all four days-assuming he gets through them
from a physical standpoint-because there is no cut. But it is Thomas, who
is paired with Tiger for the opening round, who goes off as the favorite.
The 2017 FedEx Cup winner picked up five titles last season, including the
PGA Championship.
Jordan Spieth (+600)
- In two years of this event being held in the Bahamas, Spieth-the 2014
champion-has placed T4 and T6. The 24-year-old, who won this summer's
British Open, is coming off a stellar fall swing in which his FedEx Cup
Playoffs results included two runner-up performances and a pair of
seventh-place finishes.
Dustin Johnson (+600)
- Johnson struggled to a T15 showing at the 2015 Hero World Challenge, but
he was a solid T3 last season along with Rickie Fowler and Matt Kuchar. The
No. 1 player in the world is coming off a runner-up finish at the HSBC
Champions event last month in Shanghai, where he collapsed with a
final-round 77.
Rickie Fowler (+800)
- Fowler was solo third at this tournament two years ago before his T3
performance last fall, so he knows what he is doing in the Bahamas. The
28-year-old won only once on the PGA Tour in 2017, but he turned in nine
other top-10 showings. He was T2 earlier this month in Mexico. Tiger is
+2800 to win this week.
Conference championships
SEC: Auburn ( -2) vs.
Georgia
- These two teams faced each other on Nov. 11, when Auburn treated its home
crowd to a 40-17 blowout. Georgia should have much better chance this time
around playing at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, a city in which it
clobbered Georgia Tech 38-7 last weekend. The Tigers, of course, just beat
Alabama.
ACC: Clemson (-9.5) vs. Miami (FL)
- Not unlike the SEC Championship, this ACC showdown between Clemson and
Miami is expected to be a virtual play-in game for the College Football
Playoff. The winner will be in and the loser will be out. The Tigers' lone
loss has come to Syracuse on Oct. 13, while the 'Canes fell at Pittsburgh
last week.
Big 12: Oklahoma (-7) vs. TCU
- The Sooners endured a dreadful stretch midway through the season in which
they lost at home to Iowa State and beat Baylor, Texas, and Kansas State by
single-digits. Heisman Trophy favorite Baker Mayfield and company have won
seven in a row, including the last five by double-digits.
Big Ten: Ohio State (-6) vs. Wisconsin
- Whereas Oklahoma is definitely in with a win, the Big Ten champion could be in. Wisconsin has zero losses-two less than Ohio
State-but is largely unproven with a soft schedule. The Buckeyes have
losses to Oklahoma and Iowa, but they have played well the last three
weeks.
NFC South
New Orleans Saints (-150)
- Aside from the lowly, injury-plagued Buccaneers, the NFC South is the
best division in football. New Orleans finally lost (26-20 to the Rams last
weekend) to end an eight-game winning streak, but it still boasts an 8-3
record and sits tied atop the division along with Carolina.
Carolina Panthers (+200)
- The Panthers, who have won four games in a row, are losing the tiebreaker
with New Orleans right now because they dropped a head-to-head matchup
34-13 at home in Week 3. Carolina also fell to Philadelphia and-far
worse-to Chicago, but its current streak includes a win over Atlanta.
Atlanta Falcons (+500)
- The defending NFC champions have bounced back from their setback at
Carolina with consecutive victories over Dallas, Seattle, and Tampa Bay.
Julio Jones erupted for 253 yards and two touchdowns on 12 receptions in
last week's defeat of the Buccaneers. Atlanta (7-4) is back in business.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+50000)
- And then there is Tampa Bay, which had lofty expectations going into the
season thanks to a stout defense and an offense led by Jameis Winston and
Mike Evans. Winston is currently out, and the secondary is banged up-part
of the reason the 4-7 Buccaneers are 2-6 in their last eight.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Highest grossing movie of all time (+400)
- Avatar, the revolutionary megahit in 2009, is currently the
all-time leader with almost $2.8 billion. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is third with a little more than $2
billion, trailing only Avatar and Titanic.
Larger worldwide box office than Star Wars: The Force Awakens
(+130)
- Rogue One: A Star Wars Story grossed $1,050,988,488 at the box
office in 2016. With that the franchise took a step back from the
$2,058,662,225 grossed by Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015.
Total box office more than $2 billion (-120)
- Only the three aforementioned films have exceeded the $2 billion mark (Avatar, Titanic, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens). Jurassic World is No. 4 on
the all-time list at slightly more than $1.6 billion.
Nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars (+300)
- Most of these blockbusters are high on the entertainment scale and short
on awards. Titanic is an exception, having won Best Picture-and
just about everything else-in 1998. Dunkirk is currently a +200
favorite, while Star Wars: The Last Jedi is not on the list.
