Sports Betting Futures Odds: : Alabama, Clemson Ready for Rematch
by Ricky Dimon - 1/4/2017
Ohio State and Washington, thank goodness, are out of the way. All that are left are the two teams that are clearly the class of college football: Alabama and Clemson. A rematch of the 2015-16 National Championship will take center stage next Monday, following a weekend of NFL playoff festivities.

National Championship
Alabama to win (-265) -Alabama is a perfect 14-0 and no opponent has been competitive since Ole Miss lost 48-43 on Sept. 17. LSU came within 10 points of the Crimson Tide, but it did not score a single point in a 10-0 loss on Nov. 5. 'Bama had no trouble taking care of Washington 24-7 on New Year's Eve.
Clemson to win (+215) -If anyone can take down Nick Saban and company, it's Dabo Swinney and Clemson. The Tigers suffered one regular-season loss to Pittsburgh (43-42 on Nov. 12), but they are 4-0 since that defeat. Clemson made an emphatic statement with a 31-0 humiliation of the Buckeyes last weekend.
Over/Under 51 -Last season's National Championship was an absolute shootout between these same two teams, with the Tide outlasting the Tigers 45-40. Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson passed for 405 yards and four touchdowns to go along with 73 rushing yards in the losing effort.
Defensive or special teams touchdown scored (+130) -Alabama finally took control of last year's game on a 95-yard kickoff return for a TD by Kenyon Drake with less than eight minutes remaining. It started to put Washington away last weekend with a 26-yard interception return for TD by Ryan Anderson.
Super Bowl
New England Patriots (+150) -New England powered its way to the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the AFC playoffs with a 14-2 record. The Patriots might as well have a double-bye through to the AFC Championship when you consider the three teams (and three QBs) they could face in the divisional round (Houston, Oakland, and Miami).
Dallas Cowboys (+300) - The Cowboys will not have to venture outside the state of Texas throughout the entire playoffs. They await either Green Bay, the Giants, or Detroit and will host the NFC Championship if they win that game. The Super Bowl is in Houston. That being said, Dallas' path is still quite difficult.
Green Bay Packers (+650) - As usual, nobody wants to play Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in the playoffs. Once left for dead at 4-6, Green Bay reeled off six wins in a row to not only qualify for the postseason but also win the NFC North thanks to its winner-take-all victory over Detroit this past Sunday night.
Pittsburgh Steelers (+650) -Pittsburgh is basically the Green Bay of the AFC. Ben Roethlisberger and company were 4-5 through nine contests before going on a seven-game winning streak to soar into the playoffs as AFC North champions. Roethlisberger and Le'Veon Bell make this an offense that no defense wants to see.
SBS Tournament of Champions
Hideki Matsuyama (+500) - Rarely are the Jordan Spieths, Dustin Johnsons, and Jason Days of the world looking up at someone else on the list of favorites to win a tournament. But Matsuyama's current hot streak makes that a reality. The 24-year-old has won four of his last five events, including two of his last three on the PGA Tour.
Jordan Spieth (+550) -Spieth still hasn't recovered from his back-nine meltdown at the 2016 Masters. And he may not until he has a chance to get back to Augusta National in April. The 23-year-old triumphed at this Tournament of Champions last season but his only other victory came at Colonial in May.
Dustin Johnson (+550) -Before Matusyama, Johnson was the hottest player on the planet. He captured his first career major title at the U.S. Open and was in complete control of the FedEx Cup until a final-round collapse at the Tour Cha mpionship that opened the door for Rory McIlory.
Jason Day (+600) -Day was T10 at this event last year, tied with Johnson and a full 15 shots behind Spieth-who won by eight strokes over Patrick Reed at 30-under par. The injury-plagued Aussie went without a major in 2016 after capturing his first at the 2015 PGA Championship. There is steep drop-off to the fifth favorite, Reed at +1200.
Australian Open
Novak Djokovic (Even) -Djokovic struggled after completing the career Grand Slam at last year's French Open and he lost his No. 1 ranking to Andy Murray. But the Australian Open may cure whatever has ailed the Serb. He is the two-time defending champion of this event and has won it six times in the last nine seasons.
Andy Murray (Even) - Murray has never triumphed Down Under, but that may change later this month (the first major of 2017 begins on Jan. 16). He has finished runner-up an incredible five times-four against Djokovic and once at the hands of Roger Federer. A red-hot Murray won eight of his last 10 tournaments in 2017.
Stan Wawrinka (+700) - There's Djokovic and Murray, and then there's everyone else. And why not? Wawrinka has as many slam titles as Murray (three) and is a former Aussie Open champion (2014), but he slumped this past fall after triumphing at the U.S. Open. The Swiss clearly has the talent, but does he have the consistency?
Roger Federer (+1000) -Rio Olympics silver medalist and recent Davis Cup champion Juan Martin Del Potro had been the fourth favorite at +900, but he withdrew to let his recurring wrist injury heal. Now it's Federer who is the fourth choice. The 35-year-old Swiss is past his prime, but he has won 17 majors-including four Australians.
