A month the Atlanta Falcons, the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, and anyone who
isn't a fan of cold weather or Valentine's Day will want to forget has come
to a merciful end. And that means March is here. While the Big Dance does
not tip off until next week, some bids have already been handed out and
major conference tournaments get underway this week. Prepare for the
madness!

ACC Tournament
North Carolina (+190)
-UNC put an exclamation point on its ACC regular-season title with a 90-83
home victory over Duke this past Saturday night.
The Tar Heels went 14-4 in the conference
and are 26-6 overall heading into the postseason. But they always focus
more on the NCAA Tournament as opposed to the ACC festivities.
Louisville (+400)
- North Carolina has plenty of challengers as it bids for a second straight
ACC Tournament title and just its second since 2008. Louisville, which is
in its third season in the conference, bagged the No. 4 seed with a 12-6
record. The Cardinals have cooled off just a bit with a 2-2 record
in their last four contests
.
Virginia (+400)
-Virginia has reached the ACC Tournament final twice in the last three
years (won it in 2014, lost to UNC in 2016). This regular season was a
roller-coaster for the Wahoos (21-9, 11-7 ACC), who endured a four-game
losing streak before wrapping things up with three straight wins over N.C.
State, North Carolina, and Pittsburgh.
Duke (+450)
-The Blue Devils saw their chance for a top-four seed and a double-bye
evaporate inside the Dean Dome on Saturday. Thus they must play on
Wednesday against either N.C. State or Clemson before possibly facing
Louisville in the quarterfinals and UNC in the semis. Florida State, the
No. 2 seed, is a +650 fifth choice.
Pac-12 Tournament
Oregon (+160)
-The Ducks have reached the Pac-12 Tournament final three of the last four
years (won it in 2012 and 2016, lost to Arizona in 2015). They are looking
good to make a return trip this week, sporting a 27-4 overall record,
including 16-2 in the conference. Oregon has won six games in a row since
falling at UCLA.
UCLA (+170)
- Wooden Award candidate Lonzo Ball and fellow freshman T.J. Leaf are big
reasons why the Bruins (28-3, 15-3 Pac-12) are not only in the Pac-12 mix
but also in the National Championship discussion. Their conference draw is
not an easy one, with USC likely in the quarters before a probable date
with Arizona in the semis.
Arizona (+265)
-It is Oregon that sits pretty at the top of the bracket as the No. 1 seed,
whereas Arizona (27-4, 16-2 Pac-12) and UCLA are on a collision course for
the semifinals on the other side. The Wildcats and Bruins split their
regular-season showdowns, with each team prevailing at home-including UCLA
77-72 on Feb. 26.
Utah (+1200)
-There's Oregon, UCLA, and Arizona, and then there's everyone else. Utah
snagged the last of the first-round byes, finishing one game better than
USC and California at 11-7 in the conference. The Utes, who are in the
midst of a three-game winning streak, await wither California or Oregon
State on Thursday.
MLB Regular-Season Home Run Leader
Giancarlo Stanton, Marlins (+800)
-The only knock on Stanton is an inability to stay on the field. He has
never played in more than 150 games in a season and has played in a total
of 193 in the last two campaigns. Stanton, whose single-season best is 37
home runs, hit 27 in 74 games in 2015 and 27 in 119 games in 2016.
Chris Davis, Orioles (+800)
-David led the field in homers two seasons ago with 47, finishing three
clear of Seattle's Nelson Cruz. He batted .262 that year, but his average
dipped to .221 in 2016 and in turn his home run total fell to 38. In 2013
and 2015, Baltimore's first baseman combined to go yard 100 times.
Kris Bryant, Cubs (+800)
-The reigning National League MVP and one of the Cubs' World Series heroes
improved from a .275 average and 26 homers in 2015 to a .292 clip and 39
dingers in 2016. Obviously entering the prime of his career at 25 years
old, there is every reason to think that Bryant is only getting better.
Nolan Arenado, Rockies (+1100)
-Arenado has been consistently awesome for Colorado the past two seasons.
He went for 42 homers and 130 RBIs with a .287 average in 2015 before
batting .294 with 41 blasts and 133 RBIs in 2016. The 25-year-old third
baseman missed only seven games in the last two seasons combined.
The Masters
Jordan Spieth (+600)
- Starting with the 2015 Masters, Spieth turned in an incredible run of
five consecutive top-four performances in majors, including a green jacket
at the aforementioned Masters and another win a few months later at the
U.S. Open. He should have won back-to-back Masters last year but put two
balls in the water on 12.
Dustin Johnson (+700)
- Spieth never really covered after his 2016 collapse at Augusta National,
thus opening the door for Johnson to become No. 1 in the world. That is
exactly what Johnson did two weeks ago, and he celebrated by winning last
week in Mexico. The 32-year-old American's last two Masters finishes were
T6 and T4.
Rory McIlroy (+800)
- The Masters is the only major that still eludes McIlroy, but to say he
has come close would be a gross understatement. The Northern Irishman
collapsed with the final-round lead in 2011 and has posted three
consecutive top-10 finishes (T8, fourth, T10). McIlroy placed T7 at the
recent World Golf Championship in Mexico.
Jason Day (+1000)
-Day has six top-10 finishes in the last seven majors, including a win at
the 2015 PGA Championship and a T10 at last year's Masters. The only things
holding him back are physical problems, and he has already struggled with
various issues in 2017. Hideki Matsuyama is also a +1000 fourth choice.
