Sports Betting Futures Odds: Big Week for Mayfield in Heisman Trophy Race
Penn State running back Saquon Barkley stumbled and Ohio State quarterback
J.T. Barrett fumbled (or more like threw interceptions) down the Heisman
Trophy board last weekend. Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield, however, moved in
the distinctly opposite direction. Mayfield positively went off in a 62-52
victory over Oklahoma State.

Heisman Trophy
Baker Mayfield (-175)
-Mayfield was picked off twice, but who cares? The fifth-year senior also
passed for 598 yards and five touchdowns to go along with one score on the
ground. Mayfield, who has the Sooners at 8-1, has accounted for 33 total
touchdowns (28 passing, five rushing) and has thrown multiple TD passes in
every game.
Saquon Barkley (+150)
-Barkley was a much bigger frontrunner than Mayfield is now when Penn State
was sitting pretty at 7-0. But the last two weeks have been disastrous for
both Barkley and the Nittany Lions. He rushed 21 times for a mere 44 yards
in a loss to Ohio State before going for just 63 yards in a setback against
Michigan State.
Josh Adams (+800)
-Notre Dame's junior running back got banged up in the first half against
Wake Forest last weekend and exited after gaining only 22 yards on five
attempts. Nothing else has been able to stop Adams this season. He has
1,191 rushing yards and nine TDs, and the Fighting Irish are in College
Football Playoff position.
Bryce Love (+1000)
-Like that of Barkley, Love's Heisman Trophy campaign has taken a
significant hit over the past two weeks. Stanford's junior running back
missed a win over Oregon State with an ankle injury and rushed 16 times for
69 yards a loss to Washington State. Love had been averaging 198.1 ygp
prior to that contest.
National Championship
Duke (+400)
-As usual, the Blue Devils lost a lot and also gained a lot. Grayson Allen
is one of the returnees, and he is joined on a loaded roster by Marvin
Bagley III and Gary Trent Jr. Of course, Duke was also preseason No. 1 in
the AP poll last year and we saw how well that worked out for them: arch
rival North Carolina won it all.
Michigan State (+600)
-Even head coach Tom Izzo told Miles Bridges to go pro. Nonetheless,
Bridges is back for his sophomore season with the Spartans. He is a future
lottery pick along with freshman Jaren Jackson Jr. Michigan State has gone
two years without making the Final Four, a relative drought by its
standards.
Kentucky (+750)
-Everyone is gone-more than 92 percent of Kentucky's scoring, to be
specific. In typical John Calipari fashion, though, the Wildcats have
reloaded. Their freshman class boasts six five-star recruits and two of the
four-star variety. Hamidou Diallo, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Quade Green are
among those who will lead the way.
Arizona (+900)
- The Wildcats have reached at least the Sweet 16 in four of the last five
seasons and the Elite Eight in three of the last four. They could take the
next steps now that freshman center Deandre Ayton is on board to help
junior guard Allonzo Trier. North Carolina, Kansas, and Missouri are +1600
fifth choices.
NFL specials
New York Giants to go 0-8 at home (+300)
- Unlike the Browns and 49ers, the Giants no longer have a chance to go
0-16. But they are winless at home with losses to the Lions, Chargers,
Seahawks, and Rams. The Chiefs, Cowboys, Eagles, and Redskins remain on a
tough schedule.
Ben McAdoo to be coach of the Giants in Week 1 next season (+500)
-In McAdoo's second season at the helm, New York is off to a disastrous 1-7
start. Eli Manning is in the midst of his worst year as a pro, and Odell
Beckham Jr. is out for the season. Just as importantly, the players are
griping about McAdoo.
Los Angeles Rams to score 40-plus points in at least five games (+150)
- The Rams had the worst offense-by far-in the entire NFL in 2016, last in
both yards and scoring. They now lead the league in scoring (32.9 ppg) and
have exceeded the 40-point mark three times in eight outings.
Everson Griffen to have a sack all 16 games (+1000)
-That's right; the Vikings' defensive end has at least one sack in all
eight games so far this season. Griffen is No. 3 in the NFL overall in
sacks with 10, trailing only Jacksonville's Calais Campbell and DeMarcus
Lawrence of Dallas.
MLS Cup
Toronto (+120)
-Toronto rolled to Major League Soccer's best record-and it wasn't close.
The Reds racked up 69 points, 12 better than Eastern Conference
second-place team (and second overall) New York City FC. Toronto, in search
of its first title, scraped past the New York Red Bulls in the conference
semifinals.
Seattle (+275)
- Last year's MLS Cup between Seattle and Toronto ended in a 0-0 draw, with
Seattle triumphing in penalty kicks for its first-ever championship. The
Sounders finished the regular season tied atop the Western Conference
standings with Portland (53 points) before beating Vancouver 2-0 on
aggregate last week.
Columbus (+335)
-Columbus won it all in 2008 and finished runner-up in 2015. The Crew are
seeded down at No. 5 in the Eastern Conference but went on the road to
upset Atlanta in penalty kicks in the opening round. They parlayed that
momentum into a 4-1 blowout of NYCFC in leg one before holding on for a 4-3
aggregate win.
Houston (+500)
-It seems like Houston is making news in just about every sport these days,
and soccer is no exception. The Dynamo, back-to-back champions in 2006 and
2007 and back-to-back runner-ups in 2011 and 2012, earned only 50 points
during the regular season-but that was enough to make the playoffs.
