By making the playoffs five straight seasons, winning and losing a Super Bowl along the way, and taking part in the postseason in 11 of the past 14 years, Seattle has solidified itself among the best and mos t consistent franchises in the NFL so far this century. And with the foundation of this current Seahawks group still intact, there is nothing to suggest that they won't continue to be a force in the NFC.

Throughout the Pete Carroll Era there has been one constant for the Seahawks: a bone-crushing defense. Seattle has finished in the Top 10 in both scoring defense and total defense each of the last six years. They have been in the Top 3 in points allowed five straight seasons, and the stop unit is the backbone of this team.

Unlike most defenses, Seattle's D is built from the back forward. The Legion of Boom, Seattle's all-time great secondary, is a year older but still three-quarters unbroken. And that dominating secondary allows the other star players in the front seven to do their thing.

The focus this year will be on the offense. The Seahawks dropped from having a Top 5 scoring offense and total offense in 2015 to No. 18 in points and No. 12 in yards last year. It was the first time in four years that Seattle wasn't in the Top 10 in the league in scoring and also the first time in five years they weren't among the league leaders in point differential.

The biggest issue on offense is the line. Seattle has regressed from having one of the biggest and best offensive lines in football to having what Pro Football Focus ranked as the league's worst last year. And things don't look much better this season as Seattle is still relying on retreads like George Fant and Oday Aboushi. Depth is nonexistent. And it looks like another year of Rusty Wilson scrambling around and making plays for this group.

Seattle opens the season with a marquee game in Green Bay, a place they've lost each of the past two years. But if they can somehow find a way to win then a 5-0 start heading into their early-season bye is possible. In the final two months of the season Seattle has the benefit of getting most of its toughest opponents at home, where they have been dominating over the past five year.

Pete Carroll just wins. That's all he's done in football over the last 15 years. There's no reason to think that he won't continue to do so. I am definitely concerned about Seattle's depth on both sides of the ball. And Seattle has"only" won 10 games in each of the past two years. But they have averaged 11 wins over the past five years. I think they will barely get there this year, but they should get to 11-5. Play 'over'.
