NFL Office Pool Picks Week 17
It's time for our last week of NFL office pool picks for 2017. This is the toughest week of the year for office pool players because of the number of teams that have nothing to play for, the teams that are resting up for next week, and the players that are only focused on their offseason. Unfortunately, it's also a very important week for a lot of office pool players as pools can be decided by this final week of action. Here's how the week of action sets up:
Green Bay at Detroit: Both teams have nothing left to play for, and neither team comes into this one off a particularly inspiring performance. Detroit has a better QB at this point, and is at home, so they should be able to win this one. I'm not at all inspired by this pick, though. Take the Lions.
Houston at Indianapolis: This is another dud of a game between two teams that are completely lost thanks to missing star quarterbacks. Houston has lost five straight, while Indy has dropped six. Someone has to win. Houston has slightly fewer issues. Take the Texans.
Chicago at Minnesota: Minnesota needs this win to ensure they get a bye next week. And that shouldn't be too tough for them to get. They are at home, are far superior, and are playing well. Take the Vikings.
New York Jets at New England: The Pats have a bye wrapped up, but they need a win here to ensure home-field advantage through the playoffs. Combine that with the total hate this team has for losing divisional games, and the pick is clear. Take the Patriots.
Washington at New York Giants: Washington has won two in a row and can finish at .500 with a win here. The Giants are a complete and utter mess. Like too many games this week, this means nothing, but it is at least simple to pick. Take the Redskins.
Dallas at Philadelphia: Philadelphia has absolutely nothing to play for here, so motivation won't be too high as they look forward to the playoffs. They have QB issues still to resolve, though, so there shouldn't be a total lack of effort. Dallas has been too inconsistent of late, and I don't trust them. I hate the pick, but have to go with the home team. Take the Eagles.
Cleveland at Pittsburgh: The Steelers don't control their own destiny and already have their bye locked up. But Cleveland is Cleveland, and Pittsburgh won't want to be the one team who loses to them. Take the Steelers.
Carolina at Atlanta: This game is just massive. Atlanta clinches a playoff spot with a win. Carolina is already in but can keep their hopes of a division title and even a first-round bye alive with a win here. I didn't like the effort of either team last week, but at least the Panthers found a way to win. That makes them the choice here. Take Carolina.
Kansas City at Denver: This is Patrick Mahomes against Paxton Lynch - the game everyone has been dreaming of. Denver is a horrible mess and will be in trouble despite playing a team that has nothing to play for and will be resting guys heading into the playoffs. I expect a big day from Mahomes. Take the Chiefs.
Jacksonville at Tennessee: This is essentially a playoff game for Tennessee as they make the postseason with a win. Jacksonville has nothing left to play for after their loss last week, so they should be in rest mode. Take the Titans.
San Francisco at L.A. Rams: The Rams have no interest in winning this one because they don't want to risk finishing third - playing Philadelphia in the second round is dramatically more attractive than playing Minnesota. San Francisco is riding the Jimmy wave, and so far it has been a great trip. Take the Niners.
Buffalo at Miami: The Bills need a win and some help to make the playoffs. The Dolphins are just screwed. If Buffalo has anything going for them then they should be able to get the effort up to shine. Take the Bills.
Oakland at L.A. Chargers: The Chargers need a win and a whole lot of help, but they are still alive. The Raiders are only playing for pride - and they haven't shown that they have a whole lot of that. Take the Chargers.
Arizona at Seattle: After a weird up-and-down season the Seahawks are still alive, but barely. They need the win and they need help. All Arizona has to play for is a chance to finish .500. As has been the trend, I will continue to take the team with motivation. Take the Seahawks.
New Orleans at Tampa Bay: The Saints win the division and play a home game if they win this game. If they can't beat this Tampa Bay team at this point then they don't deserve to even be in the playoffs. Take the Saints.
Cincinnati at Baltimore: The Ravens are in with a win. The Bengals are a total mess just waiting on a coaching change. Mismatch. Take the Ravens.
