2016 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Under'
UCLA entered last season as one of the Pac-12 favorites and a legitimate playoff contender. The Bruins worked their way into the Top 10 early in the season, and the hype on this team was through the roof.
But it is as if people have forgotten what I have said for years: Jim Mora Jr. is a bona fide loser.
Sure enough, UCLA lost five of its last nine games (including an upset bowl loss to Nebraska) and flopped itself to another unranked year.
Yet the Bruins come into this season again with title expectations. I'm sorry, but I don't see it. I know they have a future NFL draft pick at quarterback in Josh Rosen. But he is one of only four returning starters on offense, and the Bruins have slid from 18 starters back in each of the past two seasons to just 13 this year.
UCLA also has a difficult nonconference schedule, which should trip this team up before they even get into the meat of league play. They open in College Station and also have to travel to BYU the week before they host Stanford. And that's just September.
The Bruins should finish strong. They could potentially sweep November, with a home game against USC as the only real hurdle.
I think that this is a very good number from the books. But UCLA has lost a lot of experience and some high-end talent the past two years. Rosen is good enough to keep them out of a big rebuilding dip. But I don't think he's good enough to guide this team to nine or 10 wins. I like UCLA to stay 'under' here.
