A. Allen Iverson . The Answer has his answer from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and he's going in it. Among those also getting the hall call as members of the 2016 class were Shaquille O'Neal, Yao Ming, Tom Izzo, and Sheryl Swoopes.
B. Blood clot
. This is not the first time blood clots have bit a Florida-based franchise with title aspirations. Last year-and this year, in fact-it was Chris Bosh of
the Heat. Now it's Steven Stamkos of the Lightning. Tampa Bay's captain and leading scorer has a blood clot near his right collarbone that will sideline
him for one to three months. The Lightning are +122 underdogs at the Rangers on Tuesday, as
indicated by BetOnline Sportsbook.
C. Colin Kaepernick . A potential trade between the 49ers and Broncos is being held up by Kaepernick's unwillingness to take a $4.9 million pay cut. That's understandable. It would also be understandable if the trade was held up by Denver realizing that Kaepernick hasn't been good at playing football in several years. The Broncos are +1600 at GT Bets to repeat as Super Bowl champions.
D. Djokovic, Novak . All he does is win. Djokovic, who lifted the Australian Open trophy in January, wrapped up a perfect March by following up his Indian Wells triumph with a title in Miami this past Sunday. Domination.
E. El Clasico
. In the 264th installment of El Clasico, Real Madrid went into Camp Nou and took down Barcelona 2-1. The visitors scored the game-winner (by
Cristiano Ronaldo-who else?) in the 85th minute, shortly after being reduced to 10 men by a red card. Unfortunately for Real, it is still
seventh points behind first-place Barca on the table in La Liga.
F. Final Four . In what had to be the worst first day in Final Four history, North Carolina clobbered ACC rival Syracuse 83-66. And that was not even the biggest blowout of the evening-not even close. The most lopsided national semifinal in history saw Villanova humiliate Oklahoma 95-51. For those counting, that's a combined margin of victory of 61 points by the two winning teams. And then Monday happened….
G. Gio Gonzalez
. So much for Gonzalez starting the Nationals' second game of the season at Atlanta on Wednesday. That distinction will now go to Stephen Strasburg.
Gonzalez will be available for bullpen duty before getting a start next Monday at home against the Braves. The Nationals are +700 at Bovada Sportsbook to win the NL Pennant.
H. Herman, Jim
. Herman is going to Augusta. That's right; the 38-year-old journeyman punched the final ticket to the Masters by pickup up his first-ever PGA Tour victory
last week in Houston. Herman held off a hard-charging Henrik Stenson, who carded weekend rounds of 66 and 68 to finish one stroke back. Stenson has not won
since November of 2014 and does not have a PGA victory since the Tour Championship in 2013.The Swede is +2600 at BetDSI Sportsbook to win the Masters.
I. Isaiah Thomas
. It's gotta be the shoes. In Boston's stunning win at Golden State last Friday, Thomas switched shoes at halftime to some All-Star Kobe Nikes. He went
from zero points in the first half to 22 in the second. The story got even better during his post-game interview. "Them other shoes didn't have any buckets
in them," Thomas said. "I always know the All-Star Kobes will give me some kind of buckets."
J. Jenkins, Kris
. Legendary. Immortal. Lots of other descriptions. With one shot, Jenkins' name became one that will never be forgotten.
K. Kyle Busch . Busch won last weekend's Sprint Cup race at Martinsville and then won at life driving away from the speedway. When a Kyle Busch hat-wearing fan noticed him in the car next to her, she went absolutely bonkers-I mean Villanova bonkers. Busch even autographed her hat while they were stopped at a red light. He and Kevin Harvick are +550 co-favorites at MyBookie.ag to win the Sprint Cup championship.
L. LeBron James
. LeBron passed Dominique Wilkins for 12th on the NBA's all-time scoring list during Cleveland's home victory over Brooklyn last Thursday. One
day later he passed Oscar Robertson for No. 11. At that rate, LeBron would finish the season fifth on the all-time chart. Of course, that's not going to
happen. The two-time NBA champion did not pass anyone in Sunday's defeat of Charlotte. LeBron is more than 200 points away from overtaking Hakeem Olajuwon
to reach the top 10.
M. Masters
. It's one of the greatest weeks of the year in sports-and certainly the greatest in golf. BookMaker
has Jason Day as +645 favorite to put on the green jacket.
N. North Carolina . Well, losses don't get much tougher than that. But props to the Tar Heels, who stormed back from a late seven-point deficit to tie the title game before losing 77-74 on Jenkins' shot. And even bigger props to Marcus Paige's post-game press conference. Class.
O. Opening Day . Opening Day of 2016 was a rematch of the last day in 2015. And it produced the same result. The Mets lost at defending World Series champion Kansas City 4-3 on Sunday. A late rally saw the visitors score three runs in the eighth, but a potential tying runner was stranded 90 feet away when Yoenis Cespedes struck out with two down in the top of the ninth. 5Dimes Sportsbook has New York (Syndergaard) as a -121 favorite at the Royals (Young) on Tuesday.
P. Pablo Sandoval
. The Red Sox are paying $17 million for a bench player right now. That's the 2016 salary of Sandoval, who has-at least temporarily-lost the third-base job
to Travis Shaw. Sandoval signed a five-year, $95 million contract with Boston prior to last season.
Q. Quest for 73
. It took a serious hit last Friday, when the Warriors lost for the first time at home this season. Golden State, which bounced back from its 109-106 loss
to beat Utah one day later, must win four of its last five games to break the record. The Dubs are -150 favorites at BetOnline Sportsbook to win the NBA title.
R. Reggie Jackson
. The Pistons' guard celebrated last week's win over Oklahoma City (his former team) like he just won the NBA championship. And that was before the buzzer
even sounded. That will be the last celebrating Jackson does this season if Detroit stays in the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference and has to face
Cleveland in round one. WagerWeb has the Thunder as -8.5 favorites at Denver on Tuesday.
S. South Carolina
. The selection show was an unmitigated disaster on multiple levels-not just because of the leaked bracket. In addition to the leak, South Carolina was
wrongfully told by the NCAA that it had made the field of 68. The NCAA meant to include Southern California on its mass text but accidentally
clicked on South Carolina instead. Epic fail.
T. Tiger Woods
. You know golf has turned upside down when Tiger playing a tournament would be news. Tiger not playing a tournament is just par for the
course. As expected, the 14-time major champion will not be a part of this week's festivities at Augusta National.
U. USWNT
. It's been an interesting last few days for the U.S. Women's National Team. The recent prize-money debate erupting in the sports world has recently
transitioned from tennis to American soccer. But that story took a back seat on Sunday, when former Team USA captain Abby Wambach was arrested on a DUI
charge in Portland.
V. Vernon Davis
. The Washington, D.C. native signed a one-year deal with the Redskins last week. Davis caught 38 passes for 395 yards last season with the 49ers and
Broncos. Those aren't big numbers, but the veteran tight end does bring some intangibles that the 'Skins know little about: winning.
W. Wahoo
. The Indians have demoted Chief Wahoo to secondary logo status, and it can pretty much only be found on the sleeves of uniforms. The Block C is now the
Indians' primary logo. Redskins' owner Dan Snyder probably thinks Cleveland management is a bunch of pansies. The Indians are -108 home favorites over Boston on Tuesday, according to 5Dimes
Sportsbook.
X. Xavier
. The Musketeers may have bowed out of the tournament long ago, but they are still in the news-and not for the right reasons. Sophomore guard J.P. Macura
was arrested last week for pulling down his pants at a bar in addition to using a fake ID. Channeling his inner Ron Mexico, Macura procured a fake ID that
identified him as "Myles Fox Morrissey."
Y. Young, Nick
. Saying, "there's no need for me to put him out there on the floor," Lakers' head coach has benched Young for the past 11 games. "He's not here with us,
mentally," Scott added. And who can blame him? No one. Blame D'Angelo Russell, of course. The Lakers are +14 underdogs against the Clippers on Tuesday, per GT Bets.
Z. Zlatan Ibrahimovic
. The Swedish striker has turned down 70,000,000 Euros per year to play in China. Instead, he's seeking 600,000 pounds per week to play in England. And
Ibrahimovic's most recent performance did nothing to diminish his sought-after status, as he recorded a hat-trick in Paris Saint-Germain's 4-1 victory over
Nice in Ligue 1 action last weekend.
