Temple was yet another team that experienced unprecedented success in 2015. Fielding one of the most experienced teams in the country, a squad that went 2-10 just two seasons prior exploded for 10 wins and became a staple of the Top 25 in October and November. Temple's season also included a marquee win over Penn State to open the year.

Matt Rhule's group probably won't be able to match last year's success. But they are still hungry after losing in the AAC title game - despite outplaying Houston - and dropping their bowl game.

Temple has eight starters back on offense. Quarterback P.J. Walker is a rare four-year starter under center, and running back Jahad Thomas rushed for nearly 1,300 yards last season. Temple has four players with starting experience, including two three-year starters, along a sound offensive line, and this team will try to match last year's nearly 30 points per game.

Defensively the Owls will have to replace heart-and-soul player Tyler Matakevich. Matakevich was the team's leading tackler - nearly doubling the next player - and undisputed leader. But Temple does still have seven senior starters to go along with pro prospect Sean Chandler in the secondary, so if there is a drop-off it should be severe. This Temple defense has held opponents to 20 points per game or few in four of the past six seasons.

Temple is definitely a major contender in the AAC. They host their two biggest contenders in the AAC East, South Florida and Cincinnati, in back-to-back weeks, and their league road schedule is pretty soft (as is their nonconference schedule). I know the media is in love with Houston right now. But for my money the Owls are probably the top team in the AAC. Nine wins is tougher than it seems, but I would actually play Temple 'over' just like I successfully predicted last year.
