The Summer Olympics are in full swing in Rio de Janeiro and are soon to make the transition from swimming to track and field. What will the runners do as
an encore to the dominance being displayed in the pool by Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky? As for when the Olympics come to an end, the slack will be
picked up with football season and the English Premier League on the immediate horizon.

Olympics: Women's 100-meter dash
Dafne Schippers (+155)
-The 24-year-old Dutchwoman was previously a heptathlete, but she has now taken her talents to sprinting. Schippers was the 2015 World Champion at the 200
meters and holds the European 200 record with a time of 21.63. She was second to Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce at the Worlds in the 100.
Elaine Thompson (+230)
- Will the 100-meter dash be Jamaica's world, and everyone else is just living in it? On the men's side, of course, Usain Bolt is the favorite. Jamaican's
crop of women includes Thompson and Fraser-Pryce. Thompson has the fourth fastest time ever in the 100-meter dash.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (+425)
- Fraser-Pryce is the two-time defending champion of this prestigious event, having captured gold in Beijing and London. She will try to make history by
becoming the first person to win three straight golds in the 100 meters, but the Jamaican is an underdog at 29 years old.
Tori Bowie (+450)
- Having once focused on the long jump, Bowie has turned her attention to sprinting. And why not? She snagged bronze in the 100 meters at last year's
Worlds, and she owns a personal-best time of 10.78. The 25-year-old American insists she has "way more left in the tank," too.
American League East
Toronto Blue Jays (+140)
-No division is more competitive than the AL East as the Major League Baseball season enters the home stretch. Toronto owns a half-game lead over the
Orioles as it looks to go back-to-back in the East and perhaps to go one or two steps further than last year (lost to Kansas City in the ALCS).
Boston Red Sox (+200)
- The Sox have not done much of late, but they are still hanging around, just three games back of the Blue Jays. While their current situation is not
ideal, the end result will certainly be much better than that of the past two seasons (last place in the division).
Baltimore Orioles (+200)
- Looking for its second division crown in the last three years, the Orioles are a decent 64-50 and right on the heels of Toronto. Their overall run
differential (+38) pales in comparison to that of Toronto and Boston (+81), but the O's know how to get the job in close games.
New York Yankees (+2500)
-There is one team you can count out from this otherwise extremely intriguing division. That team is not the Yankees. No, Tampa Bay is 46-67 and a whopping
18 games out of first place. As for New York (6.5 games out), will Alex Rodriguez's exit be a distraction or ignite a much-needed hot streak?
Super Bowl
New England Patriots (+600)
-New England won't have Tom Brady for the first four games of the regular season. But the Super Bowl, of course, cannot be won or lost in those first four
games. Brady should be a man on a mission when he returns, also because his team suffered a tough loss to Denver in last season's AFC Championship.
Green Bay Packers (+850)
- Green Bay's season got off to a bit of an inauspicious start-in fact, it didn't get off to a start at all. The Hall of Fame Game was cancelled due to
faulty field conditions. Of course, that has no bearing on the rest of the 2016 campaign, and the Packers should be in good shape with Jordy Nelson back on
board.
Seattle Seahawks (+1100)
- The Seahawks are coming off an up-and-down season that started slow, picked up steam toward the end, and then culminated with a divisional-round loss to
Carolina. Marshawn Lynch has called it quits, but Russell Wilson is back to steer the ship, and the Legion of Boom defense is always imposing.
Carolina Panthers (+1200)
-Super Bowl runner-ups have endured a history of next-season futility of late, but the Panthers do not look like a candidate to fall victim to that curse.
Cam Newton is coming off an MVP campaign and will be playing behind a bolstered offensive line. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals are also
+1200.
English Premier League
Manchester City (+250)
- Is another Leicester City walkin' through that door? Manchester City and the rest of the Premier League favorites certainly hope that is not the case.
Can manager Pep Guardiola lead the Sky Blues back to a title they last won in 2013-14?
Manchester United (+300)
- As usual, the two Manchester representatives start the season as EPL favorites. The Red Devils have not finished better than fourth on the table since
they last lifted the trophy in 2012-13. Perhaps the arrival of French midfielder Paul Pogba will change their fortunes.
Chelsea (+550)
- The Jose Mourinho era is over in Chelsea, and he has moved on to run the show for Man United. As for the Blues, they are now being managed by Antonio
Conte. Chelsea stumbled to a disastrous 10th-place finish in 2015-16, one season after winning it all.
Arsenal (+650)
- There are no such coaching changes for Arsenal, where the aptly-named Arsene Wenger has been on board since 1996. The Gunners, who finished runner-up to
Leicester this past season, are looking for their first title since the 2003-04 campaign.
