2016 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'

South Florida was a big-time surprise in the AAC last season, doubling Las Vegas' projected season win total while closing the regular season with seven wins in their final eight games. Willie Taggart, formerly of Western Kentucky, seems to have found his footing in Tampa and will be looking to increase his team's win total for the fourth time in four seasons at the helm.

The Bulls have seven starters back on both sides of the ball. Offensively, their "Gulf Coast Offense" has all its primary weapons back, including dual-threat quarterback Quinton Flowers. South Florida returns players accounting for 93 percent of their yardage and has one of the best running backs in the league in three-year starter Marlon Mack.

Defensively, this team made major strides. But they now have their third defensive coordinator in as many seasons. They promoted from within, so USF will be running the same defensive scheme. If they want to make a run at winning a conference title then it will be on the strength of a linebacking corps that features a four-year starter (Nigel Harris) and a pair of three-year starters in Auggie Sanchez and Nate Goodwin. First Team All-AAC corner Deatrick Nichols also leads an experienced secondary.

USF isn't exactly flying under the radar coming into this season. They went 10-3 against he spread in 2015, which got a lot of bettors' attention, and the bar will certainly be raised for 2016. Their season win total, for example, is more than double last year's number of 4.0.

The Bulls play five of their first seven games at home, including a rare visit from in-state foe Florida State on Sept. 24. But overall they have a tough out-of-conference schedule, and in the league they play their three toughest games on the road. These guys were good for several upsets last year, and they have a lot of confidence coming into the year. But I think that a 10-2 regular season - what it would take to beat the season win total - is a little too much to ask considering this program has never won double-digit games.

South Florida will be a major player in the AAC this season. But I would have to play this number 'under', as I think they will get to exactly nine wins.
