Allegedly the Pittsburgh Steelers have one of the most talented teams in football and are a Super Bowl contender in the wide-open AFC. However, injuries, suspensions and all manner of impediments continue to keep us from seeing what this team can do at full strength. So is the potential for a championship a myth or not?

Offensively, Pittsburgh is stacked. Big Ben, Antonio Brown and LeVeon Bell are among the best four or five players at their respective positions. The Steelers offensive line is still not great. But they have invested in shoring up an area that was a glaring weakness just two seasons ago. Add in a bevy of quality role players, and Pittsburgh should again field a top group.

All of the questions on this team are on defense. Pittsburgh isn't nearly as experienced as they were a few seasons ago when they truly were competing for championships. The secondary is improving but still mediocre. And the linebackers have been more hype than production the past three years. Guys like Cameron Heyward, Ryan Shazier and Jarvis Jones need to take the next step and become dominant players. And until they do, that this side of the ball will remain a question mark.

The Steelers do have a favorable schedule this year, and that is their ace in the hole. They open with three of their first five games at home. But one of the road games is against rebuilding Philadelphia. The Steelers also host New England, and they get a bye week to prepare for their rivalry game with Baltimore in Week 9. They do have a rugged stretch of four road games in five weeks late in the season (although one is against Cleveland). But they also close with two December home games against division foes that missed the playoffs a year ago.

I do believe the Steelers are one of the best teams in the AFC. And I do think that they have an opportunity to win one of the most competitive divisions in football. However, Pittsburgh has won more than 10 games only one time in four years. And even during their recent heyday at the turn of the decade, in which they made it to two Super Bowls in three years, they topped out at 12 wins. I am going to go a bit against the grain here and play 'under'. I think the Steelers might be a little overhyped at the moment, and I can see them matching, but not beating, last year's 10 wins.
